Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

This team is really amazing. I told my dad and friend who went to the game with me, if we can just cut it below 10 at the U8 in the second half, we can definitely gut this out.

Some things I saw:
-- Pitino saying he didn't like the scout defense was fascinating because I noticed he yelled at one of his coaches about five minutes in. It seemed really random but I would guess that is why. I'm not certain which one it was.
-- This is the night Kadary became a Johnnie. He is still sort of an enigma, but I trusted having the ball in his hands more than anyone. He definitely looks like he's in much better shape. Making much better plays on offense. Big stat for him: zero turnovers.
-- Vince and Glover both deserve a shout out. Vince is probably the toughest guy in college basketball to throw the ball over when you can't move on the sideline. He also gave us some really nice minutes in the beginning of the first half when we needed it. Seems like a really rootable guy too. Glover looked a lot more focused on defense. Super impressed by him. His +7 in the box score made a lot of sense. I hope he gets more run.
-- Prey is going to be so good next year. Looks like he's finally used to the pace of play. This year, he's still an awesome defensive weapon to have off the bench.
-- Luis had zero points in the first half but turned it on in the second. Way too much bad decisions with the ball and dribbling into three people. Think he took a step back tonight on that front. But if he can be smarter and less predictable, he will be a preseason Big East POY dude.
-- This is the perfect game film I'd show someone of Sim. Some awesome plays, and some really dumb ones. The potential is there. I didn't see what happened when they did a stoppage of play, but he was yelling at the Xavier bench and had to get restrained. Then you add two of the dumb fouls late in the game. Come on man!
-- Mike Repole was on the court and hovering over the refs when they were reviewing the shot clock violation. Kind of hilarious to notice.
-- Jadakiss was also in the house!
-- Crowd was fine. I don't think it was 14k at all. A lot of empty seats behind the basket. But the crowd was also a lot younger than usual. It was hard to get loud when the team played so badly, but I appreciated the atmosphere in the second half. Almost no X fans at all. It was bone crushing cold this evening, but would've wanted more people here.

This is a really special year, remember to enjoy it!

Sat right behind the bench, a row behind Repole and a row in front of Franco. First half was like a morgue, but the Garden got crazy and stayed crazy when we cut the lead to 6 with great D. 14.5k is a great crowd on a freezing Wednesday night. NYC is getting behind this special team.

Happy I don’t read this board while at games because some of these posts are vicious. We’ve been crushing people in the 2nd half all season and wore down a pretty good team on a night we shot 9% from deep, but you’d think we haven’t shown the ability to win ugly most of the season.

Yeah, I’d love to win every game by 20 going wire to wire, but there’s something awesome about a team with this much heart and guts.

We can all use a week chilling in first place and watching other teams lose.
Agree 100%. Watched the game with Delaware and his lovely wife. We cheered, we cursed, we slapped our heads, but we rooted hard for St John's. At halftime, I told him all is well, we are only down 10. For some strange reason, I felt confident that we would win. This team is resilient and tenacious, If yo look at their faces, no one has their head down like they are giving up. They play through their mistakes. The Garden was rocking tonight.

17-3, 8-1 in the Big East, that is all that matters.

LET'S GO ST' JOHN'S!!!

It was great chatting with you after the game.

RJ was awful in the first half today and almost as bad in the second. Not just missing shots and bad turnovers, but poor defense and body language.

That said great comeback coaching adjustments. Xavier could not handle pressure defense.

For this team to reach its ceiling, RJ needs to play 10x better than today. I suppose he was due for a stinker considering all the shots he made in Newark.
