Xavier 1st Game

Tremendous win

Just one question - how the hell does JDR play at all let alone start the 2nd half?

Come on. That's Monday morning quarterbacking. Stainbrook is a huge body whose future will be first in Europe and eventually on "The Biggest Loser". If you saw the St. Mary's game, JDR did a really nice job banging away. It was well worth the gamble, and it just didn't work out.

No offense, Beast, but you've got to be kidding
The St Mary's game was months ago
Amar has improved a great deal in recent weeks and is much better than JDR
If a sub "big" was going to start the second half, it should have been Amar
JDR should be the last "big" option of all

This was a gut check type game. Again, they took a strong punch and responded. Pointer was a straight up beast today. Jordan didn't have his best game but still hits the gigantic dagger at the end. Greene, who makes me shake my head often, gets 2 guys to come at him and, smartly, dishes to a wide open Jordan for that winner. Character win, one that could save their season. Fantastic win.

Kudos for taking the high road in your response back mean gene. Could have told me to mind my own %*#{ business and you can do and cheer how you want. In the end we both want them to succeed so let's keep this steak going

Onward and upward Eric. We Are!!

If anyone can find a good highlight video please post it because my dad missed the game and I forgot to DVR it

Right, does anyone know if the game will be replayed on TV or if there are highlights online somewhere?

*Edit: Thanks Tom in Salem

You honestly believe this is an awful loss on Xavier's resume? i wouldn't be shocked if we're back in the top 25 come selection Sunday. Creighton would be an awful loss not St. John's.

I think Fun was using poetic license regarding Xavier's resume. Fact is that, as you stated, the Creighton loss was our worst loss of the year followed by DePaul. Had we taken care of business those two games we would still be ranked at 19-6 and sitting near the top of the conference. All this after losing ADR and Thomas.
As for the game it was as sweet as a Valentine chocolate. Had we not made some foolish turnovers we totally outplayed the Musketeers in a tough place to play. Two of those turnovers were by an anxious Dom who, in the end, played more like Michael Jordan than Rysheed Jordan who didn't play like Rysheed Jordan. The positives were many, some of which may have been mentioned in previous threads, none of which I have read yet. For me it was the wizard's using the bench to protect players and keep them fresh. This team needs to go 8 deep for any chance at post season and forget the zero points by Felix or low production by Amar and Obekpa, they all played with intensity and after being burned early by giving up 8 inches to Stainbrook we adjusted and used our quick hands and great positioning to neutralize him.
Even Lavin looked dapper in his Greenwich Village gangster chic outfit. As the team gets healthier we are starting to look more like the team that was nationally ranked and that almost beat Duke at the Garden.
To good health !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy that they won today but how much does this game mean if we lose to them at home?

C'mon Gene..enoy the wn...we were clearly the better team today..enjoy it

I hated that move. I didn't like Branch not getting a ton of minutes to start the 2nd half. BUT it's all irrelevant because overall I thought Lavin did an excellent job today and his timeouts were good

The Branch situation is also worthy of note
The kid plays the best half of his career in the first half and hardly plays in the second half .... I just don't get it
Maybe he meant to start Branch instead of JDR in the second half? :)

bottom line on all of the criticisms of JDR and Felix is that we need a couple more guys to give minutes. We've been puttering out at the end of games and the longer we can keep 3 more guys in the game, the fresher we'll be to close out. Amar has been giving good minutes. Felix is capable of giving good minutes. If JDR can give us 3-5 minutes/game that is a good thing. He doesn't have to be putting up a lot of production. Minimize the turnovers and maybe give us a few more fouls if we need them and that is a plus. If he can go all out and make the opponent's big man work extra hard for a few minutes, that helps. And maybe I missed it mentioned, but props to Felix (6'3" ?) for winning the opening tip against 6'10 Stainbrook.

I think it would be nice if the Redmen.com faithful helped Steve pack his bags.

I love these early moronic statements before the game hardly begins

We should be packing his bags for him regardless of the outcome of any single game.

With that said, the team played really nicely today. I enjoyed this win a lot, and they're not going away. I'm still not sure this team is getting an ncaa bid, but they're obviously going to keep fighting. So the next few weeks should be exciting for us as fans.
will we be happy with the final result? Eh, if I had to bet I'd say no. And we probably won't like the situation the program will be facing for next season. All reasons why the coach should be held accountable.

But in the meantime we have some very meaningful games coming up. The past two seasons I never truly felt we were on the bubble, even though technically we were at times. Right now I feel we're firmly on the bubble, and our fate rests in our own hands. Hopefully the unselfish ball movement can continue, and coach can pick the right spots to get good minutes from Branch, Amar, and Felix.
