Xavier 1st Game

And that was a great moment for Jordan (hopefully a milestone moment) just before he hit that 3. He came down and he looked like he was going to do it force it thing. Instead he passes off to Green and then Green smartly recognizes that Jordan now has a better better shot and the teamwork is there. Jordan hits it.

I don't have a problem with JDR and Balamou playing. Amar was awesome on Reynolds, but Stain was just too skilled and savvy for him at this point in his career. JDR did a great job on Waldo of St. Mary's earlier in the year and I think he would have settled down against Big Stain if he was given more of an opportunity.

Starting JDR was a good way to catch Xavier off balance to steal a minute or two as opposed to subbing him in right in front of Mack so Xavier could go straight at him.

Balamou didn't have a good game, but he brings + defense and rebounding and incredible defensive versatility. Most of all it, it allows a hobbled CO to rest and limit and keep his fouls in check so he can be on he court in crunch time. C'mon guys, we are 5-0 with Balamou starting and 10-1 when he plays five minutes or more.

I think it would be nice if the Redmen.com faithful helped Steve pack his bags.

I love these early moronic statements before the game hardly begins

We should be packing his bags for him regardless of the outcome of any single game.

With that said, the team played really nicely today. I enjoyed this win a lot, and they're not going away. I'm still not sure this team is getting an ncaa bid, but they're obviously going to keep fighting. So the next few weeks should be exciting for us as fans.
will we be happy with the final result? Eh, if I had to bet I'd say no. And we probably won't like the situation the program will be facing for next season. All reasons why the coach should be held accountable.

But in the meantime we have some very meaningful games coming up. The past two seasons I never truly felt we were on the bubble, even though technically we were at times. Right now I feel we're firmly on the bubble, and our fate rests in our own hands. Hopefully the unselfish ball movement can continue, and coach can pick the right spots to get good minutes from Branch, Amar, and Felix.

We have the best record through 25 games since the 99 team. Lavin is about to record his third 20-win season and second tournament appearance in four full years as a coach.

Great win today by the boys!

For the first time in conference this season, I actually respected comments made by the opposing teams fan board. Nothing but class and respect from them. Gave us a lot of credit. Nice to know not all fans are like Providence fans lol

That's because the guy who called us a shitty team before the game never posted during. Most Xavier fans do seem decent.

I just booked my hotel reservations for Indianapolis. I'll worry about tickets later.

Why hotel? All redmen.com posters have an open invitation to stay with Indyredmen97 any time they are in Indianapolis. As for tickets, I can get you comps if you are going there for the Rob Zombie show in June. I hope to entice the Weasels to open the show but Dr. Fun does not answer my emails. Anywho, it was nice of Indyredmen97 to have hosted a few of our guys for the Butler game but a little upset with the little mess they left.

The good thing with our fans is that we are so busy bashing our own players and coach that we never have the opportunity to disrespect the opposing team. All class!

Press Conferences from today's game.

Good for Mack giving Stj credit.

I'm up here in Montreal. Should I just stay up here for the rest of the season? We win big games when I'm out of the country! Unbelievable that fox is the only college basketball channel here in canada that I could find in the hotel! Everybody in my family went to check out the bio dome in down town Montreal.

I said no way. I ordered room service and stayed in the hotel room to root for my team. Boy was I rewarded. Happy valentines day everyone I will be back Tuesday night

Honestly Marillac when you say that are you trying to point fingers??

You like to step back and bark about how bad the fan base is yet i have some posts about Dom a few months back courtesy of you that I could dig up. We are all guilty of it, no need to point fingers if you are. If not Nevermind. You are fine

The last Jack that spent the winter in Montreal did not do too good.

I'm not pointing fingers for calling things out at all. I am as guilty as anyone. I have always tried to be constructive...I know I go over the top, but I just couldn't take seeing Dom wasted 25 feet from the basket last season. It was moronic. We recruited him to wreak havoc...that is what he is doing now. I was hoping it would catch on and the staff would take notice. Naive? Maybe. But I also was in a elevator with the staff when Norm was coach and they mentioned 5-10 posters by name including Marillac...wondering if they would be at event and making jokes.

The frustrating thing, even now, is that what we needed so desperately last year was something we already had...Dom in a proper role.

I'll call out anyone that I don't think is putting forth an effort. I don't have a problem with individual criticisms at all. But I do have a big problem with a negative approach to all things St. John's basketball. At that point, why bother? If we had a bad team, I'd understand so much more, but we have a good team....a team that is a Jordan epiphany and Alibegovic next step away from being able to advance in the NCAA tournament.

I was impressed with how they responded to the 1-3-1 zone when X threw it at them. That takes some of the best teams a while to crack, but they went on a run at the switch with great ball movement.

Tremendous win
Kids showed great heart
Just one question - how the hell does JDR play at all let alone start the 2nd half?

Come on. That's Monday morning quarterbacking. Stainbrook is a huge body whose future will be first in Europe and eventually on "The Biggest Loser". If you saw the St. Mary's game, JDR did a really nice job banging away. It was well worth the gamble, and it just didn't work out.

No offense, Beast, but you've got to be kidding
The St Mary's game was months ago
Amar has improved a great deal in recent weeks and is much better than JDR
If a sub "big" was going to start the second half, it should have been Amar
JDR should be the last "big" option of all

Mark, no offense taken. My opinion is that if we take the pre-game analysis offered here, and compared it to what actually happened, our expertise would pale in comparison to our post game assessments. I really like Amar, and was a big advocate of Lavin finding a 7th, 8th or even 9th man many games ago. Amar is not a panacea on defense. I like how he mixes it up, but he is also slow footed, especially against better offensive players. JDR was our best physical matchup to Stainbrook, and I thought it was reasonable for him to be given a shot at containing him. It didn't work out, and Lavin pulled him quickly. I'd give Lavin credit for keeping Obekpa on the floor when it counted. As you know, in crunch time, losing one or both big men to fouls or injury hurts us immensely against most teams. I also give Lavin credit for turning a big size disadvantage into a matchup nightmare for opponents by making us into a transition offense that pushes the ball upcourt relentlessly. You can complain about a thin roster and poor recruiting, but you can't argue that he hasn't gotten a lot out of the lineup he has chosen.

Instead he passes off to Green and then Green smartly recognizes that Jordan now has a better better shot and the teamwork is there. Jordan hits it.

That was huge and for one fleeting moment, I thought Phil was gonna force it.

I agree and would suggest that the head coach is responsible for defining roles. I love the way Dom is playing now. But, like you, I feel it's unfortunate that we didn't get the maximum out of Dom over his four years here.

Did Brian Williams mention any posters by name when you and he got shot down in the helicopter in Iraq?

So no full highlights?

The one game I wish I could go back and watch again or at least watch highlights, don't have any
