Where is our coach today?????

You guys sound like annoying girlfriends. His recruiting has been top notch. (At least on paper/rankings/rivals) so questioning that is silly. When the players he initially got here were announced 99% of you were creaming in your pants.
Judging him/his staff because they didn't attend a tournament is ridiculous.

Be patient or find a different hobby. Don't you guys have better things to do than complain?

Look around the site: Posters who are known to be heavily connected have stated our staff has been missing in action for quite a while.

Google map CtK and check the distance from Lavin's office.

Very few to no posters are heavily connected anymore. The flow of information has come to a halt the last few years for various reasons. Lavin slow-played several recruits during his time here and that info got out from sources that have either been asked to be quiet or that are no longer with the program.

I would not be surprised if Coach has some players he's very confident about that we don't know.

You do not need to be "heavily connected" to know that the our staff has been MIA. The word is out. You also do not need to be heavily connected to know that some of the top high school programs are wondering how much longer Lavin will be here. I hope you're correct about Lavin having some aces in the hole that we don't know about, but from all indications those kids(if they exist) are not from the local programs.

He does not have any aces in the hole.

There are only 4 uncommitted ESPN Top 100 recruits in 2014 remaining. We're involved with none of them.

If anyone is expecting some big time JUCO player to add anything here, what has his 3 JUCOs accomplished (Gift, Orlando, Marco)?

Gift never should have been red-shirted last year.

The "coach speak" in him said he had to even out the classes. Reality says he couldn't land the kids he was going after.

This staff is lazy. And I'm truly starting to believe that his haul in 2011 was more due to available playing time than his efforts.

Like someone mentioned, he did more quality recruiting the year when he was sick.

2011 was a boost from his ESPN gig.

alum98, Marillac says that maybe Lavin`s plan is to go after transfers, so we gotta rely now on getting transfers?

Was it Otis that said Lavin is 1for his last 22 for recruits? Thought he was some guru recruiter?
Well wtf happened to him?

Was it Otis that said Lavin is 1for his last 22 for recruits?

My statement regarding 1 for 22 was based upon information presented by Rivals.

Hey MJ,
Here what is relevant:
- -StJohns is "DFL" (a/k/a "Dead F' ing Last) in the watered down Big East with zero wins in 5 games.
- - St,Johns has an underwhelming overall record of 10 wins and 8 losses at this point in the season.
- - at the end of this season StJohns graduates/ loses 3 players on its roster for eligibility and has no players to take their place. [Please don't tell me as another poster once told me that StJohns has sufficient "talent" on its roster that it does not need any additional players for next season.]
- - During this 2014 recruiting cycle Lavin and $taff have made 14 offers to recruits 12 did not accept and the remaining 2 have not yet accepted.

Yes, we're in last place.... at the moment. That's subject to change. The Big East being "watered down" from the previous Big East has merits. Still pretty, decent teams in the conference, nonetheless.

Regardless, you're moving the basketball goals. The Rivals info isn't relevant. Not all of it, anyhow.

@StJohnsBBall: @SJUCoachLavin on the @BIGEAST Teleconference with the league's media right now. #SJUBB

We've lost to exactly one team that wasn't in the Big East last year (Xavier). And we lost to Syracuse, who wasn't in the Big East last year. So it hardly matters. We'd have been 0-5 if this was last year's Big East also.

I'm not saying that we don't need to replace those players, but in all reality, what are we really losing? Look at the 3 players that we are losing in Marco, God's Gift, and Orlando. Marco never plays anymore, and when he does, its sparingly and in garbage time. God's Gift has been playing well as of late (when he has been given the chance), but he is never going to be anything more than a role player, someone who can give you 5pts and 5rbs a game, with an occassional 10pt game every now and then. I see no reason why Christian Jones can't give us those same type of numbers. The only player that we are losing that might affect us a little bit is Orlando. But if you take the opinion of most posters on this board, he has been a bust. Personally, I wouldn't call him a bust. I just think some people on here expected him to be more than what he actually was. He has shown flashes of it, but he is just too inconsistent.

The only thing we are really losing is the number of players, and none of them really give us all that much on the court. I don't want Lavin to give out schollies just because he has them and feels he should use them...and I certainly do not want him to take chances on guys who are said to be projects.

I think he has his eyes on a few more guys in 14', and as we all know, he usually has a few surprises every year. If he gets any of them, great! If not, he can just save the schollies for 15'.

I actually think the word is out in BB Circles, insiders, that Lavin will leave the Program before his contract is up.. His absence on the recruiting trail would seem to give some credibility to that happening.

Or, even worse, like NORM, is word out in the BB community that Lavin is a poor Coach? Not able to improve a player's game? Forget Harkless, he blew up in his first year. Lavin had little to do with his game. Maybe Dunlap more so.

You were 'attacked' because you mentioned it in every thread regardless of a connection or not. And posters including myself said lets see what happens when the recruiting season opened back up and who we looked at and what new names would arise. You didn't predict he would disappear from the recruiting trail or there would be no new names so lets not try to re-write history. Nobody could have predicted that the staff would just stop.

There can be no credibility to this - only speculation. Lavin wouldn't disclose this to anyone but his wife and his closest friend in basketball - perhaps Keady, no one else. It would serve him horribly if this were true for that to get out, so I file that in the load of crap category.

That's not sayin he won't walk, but is saying that anyone saying it is just speculating.

Maybe his wife leaked it to speed up the process. ;)

Where is our coach today?

Why, he's in the locker room enjoying a win.

THAT's where he is!

Complete nonsense from one of the worst posters on this baord(and that's saying a lot)

Just please stop posting, especially such complete made up crap

Thank God!

Like nails over a chalkboard (although, he has some company).

This past weekend provided plenty of opportunities for this staff to recruit and it would not have any made a dent in the budget. Regardless of whether or not they are looking at 2014 or concentrating on 2015, they still need to be on the road recruiting 2015 players just as hard as 2014.

I once saw Jarvis after a big win on Saturday go to Rose Hill at Fordham the next day to catch some High School games at a tournament. Allen Ray (St. Raymonds) and Curtis Sumpter (Loughlin) who both wound up at Nova were sophmores and played. Jarvis had everyone eating out of his hand. He had such a chance to make in-roads but he didn't. Got lazy and thought everyone should come to him. Hope Lavin is not doing the same.
