Villanova Game

Sirvoo, Greene had 4 guys around him. He curled into the lane and his back was to the basket when he caught the ball. Dlo should have taken the shot.

Let's realize that this is our team for next year without Sanchez and since Gift and Borgault did not play until the last minute. Next year we get Balamou and Jones back plus any late recruits. We have improved since the beginning of the season but need to improve even more to be the top team in the league and nationally ranked next year which need to be our goals. I really hope we can pull out an NCAA bid by playing our best ball these last three weeks.

Go Redmen.

So Hilliard and Bell hurt us, as I mentioned yesterday. Not so much Arch... Got lucky on the banked 3. Ochefu traveled late before he was fouled. We needed a TO with 11 seconds to go. We've lost too many of these types of games this year and that could kill us tourney selection time.

Are you kidding? That kid was sensational off screens all night. He drew like half of our team fouls and set up almost everything for Hilliard and Bell. He's tough as nails...great PG...clutch, smart, quick. His shot was off, but stats will probably never be a great indicator the impact he has on a game.

Our big three were off, but the effort was awesome. You can hang around when you are off if you play hard and they sure did. Sampson busted his arse. Nine out of ten kids on the court were playing like warriors. Unfortunately the only one that wasn't was wearing a St. John's uniform.

Seriously time for Dom to look at other schools. There is no room on this team for a kid that watches all of his teammates hit the floor diving for loose balls. Is he kidding the way he walked to the ball under two minutes that Uchefu got off like two bounces? He is he not on the floor for that? Everyone was busting their asses today except him. Sickening. His effort and his IQ killed this team today. Four point swing on his moronic technical foul and we lose by three.

And Greene should not look for schools in the MAAC?

Well if you had read any of my posts over the past 12 or so years you would know that I am not "a big Homer". I call it like I see it and I've had a lot to say over the years about Jarvis and Norm, and about coaching and game strategy. But right now, we are playing better than the other teams in the league. Yeah, Vill just held on to beat us, at home, with our team half crippled. Would they have won this game at MSG? with us at full strength? Didn't look like it to me. That is not to say our season has been better. Villanova and Creighton have done great and been consistently good all year. They have great records and some good wins that come from being good early in the season. But fortunately, as long as you get to the dance, what counts is how good you are at the end of the year. And right now, at full strength, I believe we're better.

It's good to be good, and it's better to be lucky. Ryan A.'s bank shot 3 from straightaway was lucky.

Villanova controlling the ball for over a minute with the lead was good.

Greene's travel was horrible, but no way should Harrison deliver the ball to Greene in that possession, surrounded by trees. Also, Harrison's break to the basket when they needed a three wasn't exactly heady.

Give Lavin credit for loading up on 3 point shooters on the final possession, and then switching to rebounders with Harrison on the line.

Can't explain why Harrison gave a foul with 1.5 seconds remaining, down two and we needed a steal. Essentially ended the game

Yesterday, we had a little debate as to who should have the ball at the end, Jordan or Harrison. Today was an example why Jordan should have the ball.

What was wrong with the Harrison pass? It was a very good pass to a guy cutting to the basket. Down two points you take it up, either make it or get fouled. I have zero problem with Dlo making that pass.

Greene, our smallest player caught the call with his back to the basket and surrounded by three players. What could he possibly do besides kick it out or cough it up. He tried the former and succeeded in the latter.

Beast if you can go back and watch it. Just did, green caught the ball on the baseline squared to the basket. Could and should have went up with it.

Greene hustles. If we didn't have him in the first half, Nova probably goes into the half up double-digits. His defense and hustle the last few minute created turnovers. He' not a top 100 player, but he's gives us everything he's got and that is all you can ask for.

I just want to say that despite our tough loss today, kudos to the students and other fans who went to today's game in Philly. I wish they all had something to celebrate after the game, but they made their presence known during the game. And I'm sure our guys were appreciative.

Thanks to all who went today! Hats off to all of you!

If you can go back and watch it, I just did. Green caught it diving towards the rim with his shoulders squared to the basket. He then pivoted away from the hoop and the rest is history.

I could swear you are Phil Greene's challenged little brother. Back to the basket? He was wide open on the baseline and traveled into the trees. Watch it back buddy you are dead wrong. That was an atrocious play that cost us the game. Need to make those plays in clutch moments

Phil Greene has a challenged little brother?

Checking now.. Thanks!

On to Xavier. Well have Sanchez and CO. One game at a time still. I think if we beat them we will be in sole procession of 3 rd place.

Not quite. Marquette 7-6, playing at DePaul now (though only up by 2 with 4 minutes left). If they win, they go to 8-6, which would be better then 9-7 (they don't play again until Thursday).

I do believe however, if we win out, we get third automatically, provided Providence also does not win out (and they still have to go to Creighton for the season finale).
Assuming We win against Xavier we would be 10 and 7 and Marquette would be 8 and 6 . That would put us in third place on tues. That said ,what's important is how the season ends.. Sure would like to make the dance and win at least 1 game.

Pretty neat seeing SJU shirts in the nova student section.
I knew I wasn't the only parent whose kids didn't attend SJU but to this day are die hard SJU fans.

We'd be 9-7 with a Xavier win. That's the point I was trying to get across.

I think we will sweep the table from this point forward. It was a gut wrenching loss. They played great and just come up short. You've got to love them!
