Villanova Game

I understand what you are saying in terms of hustle, but he is still not a high level D1 bball player. That is not his fault. He is a guy who would make the same difference at an Iona or Manhattan as he does here. Pointer is talented enough to be playing major D1 ball and deserves to be out there. He also creates a lot of turnovers. He made some big plays as well down the stretch. The hustle thing has to in some ways be attributed to the coach. On an unrelated point, how does Branch get little to no run. We are at our best with Jordan, Branch, Harrison, Sampson and Obekpa.

I just want to say that despite our tough loss today, kudos to the students and other fans who went to today's game in Philly. I wish they all had something to celebrate after the game, but they made their presence known during the game. And I'm sure our guys were appreciative.

Thanks to all who went today! Hats off to all of you!

Pretty neat seeing SJU shirts in the nova student section.
I knew I wasn't the only parent whose kids didn't attend SJU but to this day are die hard SJU fans.

So, you raised them well. ;)

I don't have a temper Beast. Just think people like you and simply red shouldn't be posting things like "Greene caught the ball with his back to the basket and four guys around him."

That's plain wrong to say. Don't know where you get off saying I have a temper, just think you aren't the brightest.

Tough tough loss. Great showing by the SJU fans and students. I was sitting next to Rysheed's HS coach, very nice guy. Great meeting Salty Dog.

Greene would have a much bigger impact at a school like Iona, let's be honest. He's a good backup guard a the Big East level. He caused two second half turnovers late, fed Harrison for a pretty three, and he played tough D on Archie the last three minutes. He kept us in the game in the first half and he is shooting 41% from three on the year. He can be frustrating but he doesn't make too many mistakes and nobody can deny that he work his butt off. If he had Dom's body and athletic ability, he'd be averaging ten boards a game.
Early in the game he was getting beat by Hiliard, but Hilliard has four inches on him and is much stronger. Hilliard beat Dom repeatedly all night with ease--just like everyone that Dom covers.
Pointer does have the talent, but he doesn't use and quite honestly I don't think he ever well. He played the four tonight and what did he do in this throwback physical Big East game? 3 rebounds...not a single one of the offensive end. Why do our guards care more about the offensive glass than him? How can he left a ball bounce twice just feet from him without getting dirty for it? Ballgame.

So Hilliard and Bell hurt us, as I mentioned yesterday. Not so much Arch... Got lucky on the banked 3. Ochefu traveled late before he was fouled. We needed a TO with 11 seconds to go. We've lost too many of these types of games this year and that could kill us tourney selection time.

Are you kidding? That kid was sensational off screens all night. He drew like half of our team fouls and set up almost everything for Hilliard and Bell. He's tough as nails...great PG...clutch, smart, quick. His shot was off, but stats will probably never be a great indicator the impact he has on a game.

Our big three were off, but the effort was awesome. You can hang around when you are off if you play hard and they sure did. Sampson busted his arse. Nine out of ten kids on the court were playing like warriors. Unfortunately the only one that wasn't was wearing a St. John's uniform.
Not kidding, just my opinion. He shot horribly from the field, and one was the banked 3, and he shot 3 of 6 from the line.

From the pix posted on Facebook and from a close friend of mine who was there, it sounds like there was a more than decent turnout of our fans. You all certainly came across through the television.

Tough loss, but losing a nail-biter by 3 to this team in their home is still pretty impressive. What was the line, anyway? 10 points?
I think we win the next 3- Marquette almost lost this afternoon in OT at DePaul. Tournament bid is still very much alive.

Tom, I do not know how to copy and paste the picture here, but if you go to Facebook and like the "St. John's University Alumni" page, the photo is there.

tough, tough loss. The kids showed a ton of heart today. Every time Nova extended the lead to 6 or 8 we fought back. I didn't think Sheed played a terrible game today, he did force some of his drives but what do you expect from a freshman in his first game back home. The one thing that bothered me the most was that NO ONE crashed the boards on offense. I know we played a 3 guard lineup but I didn't see Dom Chris or Jakarr crashing the glass at all once a shot went up. A few offensive boards could have been the difference today. I don't think that we NEED to win out to get a bid. I think if we take care of business at home these next two, and get up to 10-8 a loss at Marquette shouldn't kill us. That said I think we win at least 1 game in the BET and possibly more to get us in. I don't think a loss to Marquette kills are chances. A loss in the first round in a few weeks and we are done.

And why should we lose at Marquette? We beat them upcourt for easy layups. Obekpa challenged their biggies. And if man defense doesn't work switch to a zone because they are terrible outside shooters.

On to Xavier. Well have Sanchez and CO. One game at a time still. I think if we beat them we will be in sole procession of 3 rd place.

Not quite. Marquette 7-6, playing at DePaul now (though only up by 2 with 4 minutes left). If they win, they go to 8-6, which would be better then 9-7 (they don't play again until Thursday).

I do believe however, if we win out, we get third automatically, provided Providence also does not win out (and they still have to go to Creighton for the season finale).
Assuming We win against Xavier we would be 10 and 7 and Marquette would be 8 and 6 . That would put us in third place on tues. That said ,what's important is how the season ends.. Sure would like to make the dance and win at least 1 game.

Who does Marquette have left other then us?

Gtown, @Nova, @PC, SJU... No easy task for them.

Three cheers and a round of applause for those that made the trip to Philly today.

Saw NYC Redmen, Salty Dog and his Brother-In Law, among others at the McFaddens reception

Great representation by a tremedous and very loud group in the upper deck at Wells Fargo.

Several members of The Board of Trustees and Board of Governors there cheering for our Redmen.
