Tulane

Technica? WTF

The dual T's seem to be excessive, but the refs are probably just trying to keep the game from getting out of control.

Which one did you replace? Tommy, Marky, Richie?

Tommy was replaced by Marky, who was replaced by Richie, who was replaced by Marky, so I missed my opportunity... I was resigned to lurking in the shadows.

At least you are still lurking and can step into the sunlight at any time.

RIP Joey, Johnny, DeeDee and Tommy.

Awesome game! I always get nervous regardless of opponent but this was fun to watch the whole time. Can't wait to see our top 15 ranking tomorrow!

1985-86 Season

First 11 games:

Beat Navy 66-58
Beat West Virginia 65-58
Lost to Duke at The Garden: 70-71
Beat Louisville at The Garden 86-79
Beat Wagner 85-55
Beat Columbia 80-58
Beat Fairleigh Dickinson 88-56
Beat Marist 62-58
Beat UCLA 69-65
Beat Niagara 104-61
Beat Monmouth 98-58

Then went on to beat James Madison (79-57), St. Bonaventure (85-69), @Providence (95-90 in OT) and Pitt (78-75) before losing to BC at Boston Garden in OT 77-79 on January 7th, 1986.

That was a frustrating loss to a poor BC team (13-15, 4-12), although they did have Dana Barros and senior Roger McCready. McCready, who was their leading scorer, was an undersized 6-4 forward from Xaverian HS who had the heart of a lion.

Thought McCready played the post on that team? Which made him even more undersized. Did Jay Murphy and Michael Adams graduate the year before? I don't remember to many gimmes against those teams.

Michael Adams graduated the year before ('85) along with Dominic Pressley; Jay Murphy in '84. I clearly remember McCready as an undersized PF. Troy Bowers was the BC center, so If McCready ever played the 5 it would've been in an "emergency" situation, similar to Pointer playing the 5 for us.

Good teams :

1. Play good D first and foremost;
2. Have more than 1 scorer;
3. Want to win more than put up individual stats;
4. Beat inferior teams badly;
5. Get contributions from their bench as we did today from Felix-4 points, Amar - 3 points, Joey D - solid D, CJ - 4 boards.

Can we please all try to be happy as we approach our next game versus the Hall on the road? The team and staff are doing everything we could have asked for and more at this point in time and I firmly believe Rysheeds best ball is still ahead of him this season.
Enjoy the day and look for us to possibly be in the top 15 tomorrow , something none of us would have predicted.

Excellent analysis. This is a very very good and determined team, and not only do I think Sheed's best ball is yet to come, partially as a result I believe this team's best ball is yet to come.

Who lost this week that was ahead of us?

One of the most enjoyable SJU games I've seen in a long time
The kids look like they are having fun on the court and are playing well together
Enjoy the ride!! Looks like it could be a fun and exciting league season

Nice win.. still plenty of room for improvement in terms of shot selection. Help defense was superb. Jam the ball inside against us and you are likely to lose the ball as we swarm the middle. Can't say enough about Dom - but that's obvious. Good win.

we have a shot to move ahead of Wichita State but that is the only one of those three we are moving ahead of. Louisville wont drop any further than the 7 or 8 spot after a tough loss to Kentucky and Texas and Kansas are 9-10 right now and will drop to 14-15.

Maybe, but Kansas lost to a mediocre Temple team by 25, and I could see us jumping back over ND this week given the Long Beach win was against a better team than ND played.

Surprisingly we have fixed a lot of weak spots which i thought would hamper us this year. I thought our size would be an issue, but Obekpa is much improved, and we have joey D and CJ giving decent minutes. Our guards are all improved. Team defense has had few lapses this year so our IQ on both sides of the ball is better. In the past, Sir'Dom was a liability. Instead this season he is s dynamic player at both ends. We are really playing the way I hoped we would all along, and without much of the huge lapses in either offense nor defense.

I'm hoping to pass up ND too. We had two wins this week and they had one, plus we were only 19 points behind them in the rankings this week.

I
Forget Costco, he is Mr. Swiss Army Knife
Sir'Dom is carving them up today!

According to coach, today he was a hurricane or was it tornado?

Today he was a tornado

In past years, we never had a Sir'Dom who could give us any real offensive production. This year he can drop 20+ and has much more control at both ends. He has become a huge difference maker for us. He's no longer just a defensive specialist. He's awesome on the fast break, and basically doing everything.

I'll add that team defense has been simply awesome this year. Those zones thwt people lamented Lavin using are working amazingly well, even against teams with shooters as we are closing out and playing the zones the way they are supposed to be played.

Full steam ahead... I want to beat the Hall into the ground...

Dom is like an electric car vs a gas car. He can go from 0-60 almost instantly. Part of the problem is that on the break he's almost always been way ahead of everyone. Last two seasons it meant him pulling back and usually stopping at the top of the key-ft line. There was this moment of hesitation. Defenses learned it and very often zoomed in right to that spot to steal the ball right there.
