Sir'Dom is carving them up today!

According to coach, today he was a hurricane or was it tornado?

Today he was a tornado

In past years, we never had a Sir'Dom who could give us any real offensive production. This year he can drop 20+ and has much more control at both ends. He has become a huge difference maker for us. He's no longer just a defensive specialist. He's awesome on the fast break, and basically doing everything.

I'll add that team defense has been simply awesome this year. Those zones thwt people lamented Lavin using are working amazingly well, even against teams with shooters as we are closing out and playing the zones the way they are supposed to be played.

Full steam ahead... I want to beat the Hall into the ground...

Dom is like an electric car vs a gas car. He can go from 0-60 almost instantly. Part of the problem is that on the break he's almost always been way ahead of everyone. Last two seasons it meant him pulling back and usually stopping at the top of the key-ft line. There was this moment of hesitation. Defenses learned it and very often zoomed in right to that spot to steal the ball right there.

What has impressed me is the way that in transition, often a player who starts a break with a key rebound or block, or who hits the deck as we move into transition, is often the guy who busted it to get back on offense and subsequently finishes the play. It's a sign of a well coached team to get guys to bust it every minute they are out there. Obekpa, Dom, and Dlo are all prominent examples of this, but by no means the only ones.

Dom's playing really really well, but I think handling the ball on the break is still his weakness.

Finishing on the break? Not a problem.
But he's still good for two turnovers on the break per game.

we have a shot to move ahead of Wichita State but that is the only one of those three we are moving ahead of. Louisville wont drop any further than the 7 or 8 spot after a tough loss to Kentucky and Texas and Kansas are 9-10 right now and will drop to 14-15.

We should move ahead of ND, Wichita St. and Kansas.
Not because KU lost, but how they lost. Losing by 25 to Temple?

I eill be happy if we stay 17 I doubt we will jump those teams

Surprisingly we have fixed a lot of weak spots which i thought would hamper us this year. I thought our size would be an issue, but Obekpa is much improved, and we have joey D and CJ giving decent minutes. Our guards are all improved. Team defense has had few lapses this year so our IQ on both sides of the ball is better. In the past, Sir'Dom was a liability. Instead this season he is s dynamic player at both ends. We are really playing the way I hoped we would all along, and without much of the huge lapses in either offense nor defense.

I hate to bring any negativity to your post, especially when we played so well today, but CJ has not given us decent minutes all year. He played 9 minutes today, and grabber four rebounds, which is good. But he did it in a game that was a blowout for the majority of the game. He played well in the Fordham game, but once again that was a blowout. In games of any significance this year (Cuse, St Marys, Gonzaga, and Minn), he has done little to nothing. He didn't play against the Cuse, in the St Marys game he played 3 minutes but didn't record any statistic, against the Zags he played 8 minutes but didn't record a stat, and against Minn he played 9 minutes, scored 2pts, and had 1 rebound, 1 foul, and 1 turnover. None of those are exactly mind blowing numbers.

I'm not saying that he couldn't eventually develop into a nice player....but he brings absolutely nothing to our current team.

Real happy with the win. Each game I keep thinking that maybe it's the other teams shots that just aren't falling but it looks more and more like we are really committing to defense.

Getting that same feeling a little more each day that I eventually got Lavin's 1st year

Let's start the big east season strong with a road win on wed and take down Wilard and Seton Hall

What's happening this year is that our weakside defense is not being caught off guard for wide open three that seemed to predominate our losses in past years.

+1. The rotations and help defense is much much better.
I notice it on the rotations on 3pt shooters, and how were defending the pick and roll.
Our weak side is stepping up to cut off penetration before the screen is even set.

He's at his best running the break. He is a very skilled distributor with the ability to dunk over people.

But he's still good for two turnovers on the break per game.

Simply not true as he averages just 1.6 TO playing 33 minutes a game while leading the team with 3.3 assists per game.

What was the attendance today?

Very small crowd. Only the lower bowl was open and it was maybe a little over half full. Poor showing from our fans again.

Hopefully we'll have a much better showing for the MSG games. Team deserves it.

That doesn't mean he's best at running the break as you also mentioned in a post above. When he grabs a rebound and dribbles it's downright frightening. Pretty safe that the vast majority of his 1.6 per game come from those ill advised coast to coast and his 3.3 come from sweet dishes in a half court set where he is being utilized properly for the first time in his career.

Crowd was not great but I think it was better than what I expected considering the game was not included in the season ticket package, students are away & the opponent, record not withstanding, was not a big draw. Don't get me wrong, I would never use these excuses for not attending a game, but these tend to be the reasons many have given in the past.
