Transfers

If Marcus is going to leave SJU and I pray he doesn't , at least the staff has enough time to look for an adequate additional pg for next season. Could be a Juco , could be a 5th year transfer, could be a European , and he may not have the talent Marcus does, but we have the time to find the right player.

Well, at least Marillac might get a more a more balanced scholarship distribution this way!

If he wants out for whatever reason and has four years of eligibility left, if he leaves now he will only miss first semester next season.

Uhg. Why did I allow myself to forget that this ALWAYS happens to us.

For me, Yakwe and Sima are the two that we absolutely need to stay. LoVett would be awesome, but I guess it's not meant to be. I actually thought he had what it takes to light up the garden. Oh well....

Dave at JJ mentioned earlier about Lovett playing on an ex SJU defector team. Than elaborated in a later thread about Lovett going to all those HSs. If Ellison is as good of a PG as Dave says why isn't he playing PG?

Because he's not as good as Dave says. This is the BE. You need to have a PG. Not some kid you think might be able to become a PG once you realize he's probably not a SG.

Ponds and Mussini together should be more than fine. Neither is a true point but both can handle the ball to take pressure off the other. Also from what I have heard Ahmed is a pretty good passer.

Eligible, not eligible, eligible after Christmas, not eligible, lawsuit, injury, no lawsuit, transferring.
All that is missing is an evil twin, aliens and a dummy and you have an episode of that show soap.

I'm pretty sure if a St Johns fan had the winning power ball ticket somehow the lottery commission would rule the ticket ineligible

I'm a Cal Bears fan until Wednesday 8 p.m. PST

Before i get crazy over this, I'll not only wait to see if the kid actually transfers, but I'll wait to see if he amounts to anything after he transfers(next year). By that time we may well have a perfectly capable PG so it may not matter anyways.

WTF?????
Quick somebody check snopes.

Can't believe that this staff, as hard as they recruit, would let him slip through our fingers unless it relates to academics.

If true, he would have provided some sorely lacking electricity, but you are correct. We could end up with a completely vanilla floor general who gets us the same amount of wins and leaves the flash to others. I think if it turns out to be true we can expect Matt A. to be scouring rosters for potential 5th-year seniors.

As much as I would hate to lose Lovett (or any player for that matter), I was actually more upset when I read this thread and thought it might be Mussini, Yakwe or Sima. Those 3 all appear to be great kids and teammates and seem to enjoy playing for SJU.

Addition by subtraction

This staff, like Lavin before them, had to recruit immediately what was available. What is available is not always the most stable of situations; that is why it is available. We saw the turmoil then, and have seen some now. We will not see that turmoil indefinitely going forward, patience and perspective. While all the jokes and cynicism are warranted, unlike Lavin, this is not going to be the same old SJU in a couple of years. It takes time, something not very well understood or accepted today. Patience and perspective. Along those lines, one comment on Ellison - he has fought injuries for a couple of years, which is tough under any circumstances. However, coupling that with returning at the D1 level as a freshman makes it doubly so. I have not seen him play enough to offer my own opinion but many who have and whose opinion I respect think IF, a BIG IF, he can stay healthy he will be a terrific player.

The high rate of transfers is one of the big changes in this sport. They happen in every program.

If true it will be interesting to know why as we know next to nothing about these kids, especially off the court.

More importantly, better to see him leave now than in May

if the rumors are true I don't see the logic behind Lovett transferring. plenty of playing time next year and no other point guard to compete with. Well nothing surprises me anymore so we should let it play out.

Seldom about logic, but you are right, let this play out.

Our last two tournament appearances came with our starting lineup not including a true point guard and the only true point guards on the roster (Boothe/Branch) got limited minutes.

Yea, and we didn't go very far
