Transfers

I had no problem with Jordan, CO, Sampson and Diallo not being on the roster this year. There was a viable reason for each case. If Marcus is a goner I'd be a little perturbed and would want to know what his reason is.. if it's related to the program (and not personal) I'd want it nipped in the bud.so this doesn't happen again. Very disappointed to hear of this development, top 10 PG's are a commodity, that's why there are only 10 of them each year!!

If in fact he's gone, my guess is that it has nothing to do with the program and everything to do with Marcus. I'm not a shrink, but 4 high schools in 4 years tells me the kid has some attachment issues

Why did Jordan leave? Omar Cook? 18 / 19 year old kids sometimes do stupid things or use logic that 40 year old people think is stupid. Doesn't make sense to me but I am not him.

Agree it could be anything, but would be surprised if it was a result of an issue with the program/staff

I don't think anyone w/o an agenda will blame Mullin if this does come to pass. He took a shot at getting a good player.

Now you could argue that we shouldn't have gotten involved in first place. But I am pretty sure the people making that argument would be the first to complain if we weren't bringing in better talent.

What would you say if he was thinking of transferring because the staff was letting him know they weren't sure if there is a place for him next year. This could be the case depending on who they are still trying to sign. This is a possibility. Nobody loves Mullin more than me but if it comes out that Lovett transfers because he is feeling pushed out the door I am wondering how that will change the perception. Will people stop instinctively bashing Lovett and criticize the staff for stabbing current players in the back while looking for better options? Just a thought.
Don't buy it unless there is academic or attitude problem.

If he is not at GT game tomorrow, that would be telling I suppose.

Nobody wants to wait that long. Jack W. send this young man a tweet tell him it's urgent and we need clarity. Thanks in advance

So the most important part of the game tomorrow is not the game itself, but who is sitting behind the bench.

Dave at JJ mentioned earlier about Lovett playing on an ex SJU defector team. Than elaborated in a later thread about Lovett going to all those HSs. If Ellison is as good of a PG as Dave says why isn't he playing PG?

Because he's not as good as Dave says. This is the BE. You need to have a PG. Not some kid you think might be able to become a PG once you realize he's probably not a SG.

Our last two tournament appearances came with our starting lineup not including a true point guard and the only true point guards on the roster (Boothe/Branch) got limited minutes.

Yea, and we didn't go very far

Dwight Hardy running the point was the least of our problems in 2011. If you have a dynamic scorer in there at the 1 (Hardy/Sheed) you can play at a high level. Especially if we start playing at the high tempo that Mullin wants to play at.

Well I disagree slightly. I think you can make the tournament without a true point guard, I think going deep into the tournament a true point guard is nessecary. Of course there are teams that don't have a true point guard and go deep, but I would be way more confident in our team to go far if we had a Lovett running the point instead of someone who isn't a point guard.

Seeing the teams who have won it all the last few years, you see names like Tyus Jones, Peyton Siva, Shabazz Napier, Kemba Walker, Ty Lawson. It just makes me believe that having guys like these are part of the formula for going all the way

Kemba was more in Hardy mold. In fact not playing the point really anymore. Have Lin starting with him now

Duke won a National Championship with a backcourt of Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer, neither of whom were remotely considered Point Guards. It all depends on how your team is built and more importantly, the overall guard play.

I have heard more transfer rumours involving St. John's players over the years than I can remember and most times, the player in question doesn't leave. So I always take them with a grain of salt no matter whom I hear it from.

That being said, let's not kid ourselves or start the old Redmen.com old "he wasn't that good anyway" or "we didn't really need him" or "we can easily replace him" especially since so many were lamenting on how much better we would be if he were eligible this season. Maybe those lines are used by some as a coping measure, but c'mon, based on the talent he supposedly possess (I have only seen him once and he looked like a player) this would be a lose that we would need to replace. Yes we have Ponds coming in but Ponds was recruited to go along with the Lovett, Mussini and Ellison, not to replace any of them.

We shall see.

Good view from 114. Your seat is still empty. Ralph's the only guy left in your row. I am wearing ear plugs tomorrow night just in case this rumor is confirmed.

Now sensing you may very well need them.

There goes all those starting lineup predictions with Lovett at the point. Is there a motivation for Lovett possibly transferring, hypothetically of course?

If Chris Mullin won't give up on this program.... than NEITHER WILL I!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding. Haven't watched a game all year!

The thread is composed of complete hysteria, drama, rumours etc but your post that the staff may be telling the only true pg they have out of the 11 players presently committed for next season that he should leave ,and a 4* top 100 player no less , truly takes the cake. There may be a multitude of reasons for ML to leave SJU but your theory is just not one of them.
Can we please refrain from jumping off the ledge.

Hopefully it works out but the two posters that relayed it to me would not be classified as "ledge jumpers".
Def seems to be something there, and frankly Paultz does not seem to confident, so that does not seem to be a good omen.

Unbelievable. So is Ponds capable at PG? Or would we need someone else?

As good as Mussini is for a freshman he's not a PG.

Wish some of the negative posters would TRANSFER to some other board.
Let me enjoy the positives of building this program into a powerhouse!

I don't think a poster being concerned about Lovett transferring ,w the rumors around and Paultzs avi is being negative. The reality is that would be a blow to the program, unless the staff has something up there sleeve that we don't know about.
