Transfer Portal

Forget who it was, but did see a non SJU person on Twitter tweet a gif of Pitino on the announcement of that kid hitting the portal
Oneyso is not just a great fit to take over after Soriano leaves, but to spell him during games this year and play with him at times. Big scary front court. (= Only was 2.6 ppg and 2.6 rpg, but only in 7 minutes per game. Even if RP can get him up to a hair over 25 minutes a game, your talking a double double average. I am intrigued.

Daniss Jenkins was to Iona what Estrada was to Hofstra.
Both are excellent scorers but will face much stiffer competition in the Big East. Being a Pitino recruit he "may" understand that his role may be slightly different where all 5 starters will be expected to contribute but with a greater emphasis on a center of Soriano's caliber which they have never had the luxury of having on their team.

Hopefully Pitino will be honest about future roles depending on the players coming in and the quality of the competition.

That said, it would be nice for Pitino to have a player familiar with his system and demands.

I suspect Pitino was honest with our former players concerning their probable roles and that is why so many entered the portal. They simply did not want diminished minutes.

From Zach, Brandon G's mom, maybe a combo of PT & $$'s?:

Brandon Gardner mother tells me visit went well. Rick Pitino made it clear St John's wants him. "But it all has to make sense," Tameka Gordon told me.

Unfortunately it is an increasing trend which most times doesn't benefit the player basketball wise or academically.

The grad transfer rule is a farce. Unless the player was an achieving academic student as an undergraduate, the vast majority stop attending classes after their last game and never complete their degree requirements. Of course this also happens with undergraduates who stop attending school to focus on preparing for professional tryouts. We all hear of cases where former star guard
Joe Schmooze returns to his college at age 40 to finish his senior year credits.
Basketball was, and is their life.

However, the vast majority will never make much money playing in Hungary or the Philippines. Getting the extra minutes playing for Southern Mississippi didn't change their true talent grade.

While both Jenkins and Clayton are good players on the mid-major level and received All Conference awards,
I personally don't think they will be much more effective in the Big East. Pitino may be looking for older and more experienced familiar faces but I believe he would recruit over them in the portal in a NY minute if the opportunity arises.

Wow.....this really is ruining the game. From a basketball perspective, there is no better place for Ryan Nembhard than Creighton. Now it's full blown free agency with kids just going to the highest bidder (don't blame them).

There are ways to regulate this for parity. Apparently the NCAA is just not interested in doing it. Boo!

The pandoras box has become a swinging door.
This is the generation of me too, what about me, and my basketball body..my choice.
Kids may as well print up cards that read "HAVE BASKETBALL, WILL TRAVEL"
