Transfer Portal

Have seen where walkons have entered transfer portal. Anyone know why they even have too? If they are not on scholarship it seems they should be eligible to go where and whenever they want too.

Antoine Walker, Pope, Pelphrey and Mashburn among others are confused by this claim.
You know who wouldn’t be confused by this claim? Anyone who has played for Pitino this century :)

During his nearly two-decade run at Louisville all of his PFs and Cs averaged less than 1.5 three-point attempts per game COMBINED. Only two guys who played PF or C averaged more than 1.0 three point attempt per game at Louisville and they were two of his top three most highly rated recruits, RSCI #16 Juan Palacios and RSCI #24 Earl Clark, who was an NBA SF. They average 2.1 and 1.8 attempts per game, respectively. Clark had insane rebounding #s so he wasn’t neglecting that end.

I don’t think Brandon Gardner will be #3, but I do think a guy like Ledlum would be given opportunities if he takes care of his primary responsibilities down low. Marvin Clark is another guy we had recently who I could see Pitino giving a few threes a game to as a reward for taking care of business down low. Gardner might become that kind of guy in 2-3 years, but Pitino wants defense, rebounds, and physicality from his big men.

Sorry if this is a repeat that I missed...so hard to keep track lately. What does Storr see in RP that doesn't match up with this quote and him wanting to be somewhere he will make an impact. Pretty sure he could make an impact at SJU. Not a judgment...just confused. I would think he'd have that playing for RP.

“I want to be on the floor and have the trust of my coach,” Storr said. “I want to play for a coach who lets his players play through mistakes. Nobody is perfect on the court and I want a coach that understands the player aspect.”

Maybe Coach Pitino in person AND by reputation - Bobby Knight ish - scared this young man off. Let’s face it the understanding of HCRP is that he runs a tough, strict, highly demanding program! Maybe Storr couldn’t handle that.

Not upset at the idea of bringing them both. Would be very very surprised if those two + Soriano are our 3 best players. Those 2 + Nelly were gonna dominate the maac. Those 2 + Soriano would be a really good start with a lot of work left to be done. Get excited. We’re a couple signings away from having all the positive vibes we need.

From Zach, a bundle of buzz:

A few recruiting updates:
-- Walter Clayton Jr will have company on his official visit: Iona teammate Daniss Jenkins
-- TJ Bamba will announce on Apr. 14. It would be an upset if St. John's lands him, according to sources.
-- Manhattan native and Notre Dame transfer Cormac Ryan, a quality two-way wing, has become a priority target.

Longtime reader, heard a rumor about Ugonna Oneyso from Kentucky. Anyone else hear that. Would be the perfect backup to Soriano and then take over next year…

Forget who it was, but did see a non SJU person on Twitter tweet a gif of Pitino on the announcement of that kid hitting the portal
