I guess if he would have kept some of kids may have be helped this next year but wants to build with his players.
Those MAAC guards played 2 games against tournament teams all year (Princeton and UConn). Got destroyed by UConn. Didn’t shoot well.I think you can win w/ 2 excellent MAAC guards, Soriona and stud studs in the portal.
The 2 MAAC guards are light years better then any guards we had last year.
You probably missed the Vince Parisse UCONN/College Basketball spot on SNY last night. LolThose MAAC guards played 2 games against tournament teams all year (Princeton and UConn). Got destroyed by UConn. Didn’t shoot well.
But please keep saying anything possible to continue to trash our past players abilities. And put all your trust in a mid major backcourt because you hate what we had.
I believe in pitino but part of me thinks this board is in for a rude awakening come November. You all think our roster is gonna be so much better than last years. I doubt it. It’ll be a better coached team no doubt. But you’re all assuming a lot of things about the roster. Assuming a lot of things about players who have never played in a power conference. Let’s see what happens I guess
It’s impossible to make a case for much either way right now because we don’t even have a roster yet. Sure will be interesting to watch how RP pieces it all together. I expect good things because the portal is essentially free agency. He will find players. As I’ve said in other posts I think RP will have us better coached and competitive but I think this next year is one of transition and well have to wait till year 2 and he can recruit on a normalized basis to see the real deal.
Both Posh and Storr were asked to return and for whatever reason declined. The problem with this year’s team was not a lack of talent----we beat Uconn on the road and played Marquette to a virtual tie, also on the road. Our problem was consistency and bad coaching. So the new coach ought to be able to take the current guys, now a year older, and coach them up. Fill the vacancies with studs as the vacancies occur. You don’t fire 3\4 of the team immediately, IMO. If you’re a great coach, show me. Take the former Rookie if the year\Defensive player of the year (Posh) and a freshman who shot 40% from 3 in the BIG EAST (Storr), and build a team around them.
Pitino apparently thought it was both a lack of talent combined with a lack of the proper attitude needed to win. I trust his opinion. He did not take the job to prove to anybody that he could win with a team filled with players that both didn't win enough and didn't follow the rules. Only a fool of a coach would do that, and Pitino is certainly not that. The problem with this year’s team was not a lack of talent----we beat Uconn on the road and played Marquette to a virtual tie, also on the road. Sure do wish we hired you as our head coach. The problem with this year’s team was not a lack of talent----we beat Uconn on the road and played Marquette to a virtual tie, also on the road. Guess we’ll find outI

Your take about November and the roster not being better than what they put out there this past season could not be more 180 degree different than his.
Exactly. Every opinion means nada right now. Once we have players. Then opinion away. Which still holds no weight for most of us who don’t know them that well. It’s impossible to make a case for much either way right now because we don’t even have a roster yet. I think until we get past this dormant period 3/30 to 4/6 we won't have any new players committing to our program. How it plays out after that will allow for much scrutiny and debate here from our posters. That said, the only true measuring stick will be what happens over time. November is when we will begin to see what is what but it might take a year or two to get a better evaluation on what all these changes actually mean. In the meantime hope is our greatest asset and pessimism is our biggest deficit.Guess we’ll find out

Clayton / JeanLouis / Jenkins shot as well, or better, than all of the UConn guards in that game. It was Sonogo (and his 7 foot 2 backup Clingan) who absolutely dominated that game, not the fault of the Iona guards. Those MAAC guards played 2 games against tournament teams all year (Princeton and UConn). Also, tbf, UConn has been playing like arguably the best team in the country during the tournament.Clayton / JeanLouis / Jenkins shot as well, or better, than all of the UConn guards in that game. Exactamundo! Uconn playing like the best team in the nation. When we beat them they were in the throws of a 6 loss in 8 games streak. Can you spell aberration. Also, tbf, UConn has been playing like arguably the best team in the country during the tournament.
