Transfer Portal

I doubt Storr or King were staying if Anderson was kept on. Not surprised their leaving. I appreciate their time here, wish them well.

Fellas, it’s up to Pitino to make a believer out of all of us. I think we’ve all just gotten jaded with our constant lack of success over the past 30 years. I’m pretty sure Rick has far higher standards with respect to what he wants to do here, than we do.

Rick invited Storr back and he declined. That’s on Storr, not the coach. Pitino will not cry about it I’m sure. Let’s see what remains of the rest of our guys. I’m fairly sure Pitino would like to keep Brandon Gardner in the fold as he seems the type of work horse that Pitino likes, but we don’t yet know what’s going on at both ends.

Just enjoy the process. It will be a roller coaster early on, but the guy running the show is the best around. We are used to amateur hour so I understand where people are coming from, but Rick P is a far cry from that.

Iona this past season has a player or two like Clayton etc who may be every bit as good or better than the guys cma recruited while he was here, and that was to a MAAC team. Have some patience and things are gonna change fast around here.

It’s a very simple concept - you hire a Hall Of Famer to coach the team, then you trust his judgment and roster building abilities. It’s early in the portal game, gents. It’s not even worth judging where the team is until Pitino has completed his roster shaping for this year. Anything else is just blather. I wish the departed, or soon to be departed well, but I still expect a much improved and harder competing team in the fall than what we had witnessed last season. Even with nearly the entire roster turned over.

Remember what Pitino did in 1989 with a completely gutted roster and severe recruiting restrictions at Kentucky. With a team led by Richie Farmer, Deron Feldhaus and John Pelphrey, he got Kentucky to finish 14-14 with a 10-8 record in conference. In Pitino I Trust.

Yes, it happens all the time.
Yeah, it does but it wouldn't last long if the 15-minute guy outperforms the highly-touted new guy for a few games. Minutes would be adjusted. It's about wins high major hoops, which produces big $$$'s to the coach and the college.
But, Pitino asked Storr to stay. I'm guessing either Storr didn't like his PT range, he thinks he can do better elsewhere, or as LJSA has said, he sees more $-NIL-S's away, maybe a bit of both?
I like Storr, wish him well (not against us, lol), it's Rick's call and I like his plan and vision to bring the magic back.
I'm in.

Stop coddling the malcontents they deserve a boot in the ass they are being ridiculous.

FWIW year one doesn't really matter too much. We want to be loaded for bear in year two. There isn't one guy who left, not even Storr, that is a huge loss. And if he left for any reason other than "I can make more NIL elsewhere" then it doesn't speak well of him.

The surprising thing to me is how bad the culture under Anderson apparently was. Perhaps the firing for cause has some teeth, and isn't just a way to try to save a million or two.

Ftr…Storr is the guy I’m the most upset about. He’s gonna be a really nice player for someone next year. He might not be the best defender on the floor but he definitely has an “it” factor you cannot deny.

But, your post is 100% correct. There isn’t much the current staff can really do. They didn’t recruit these guys, the kids don’t know them. If they want to leave, they’ll leave and we all have to accept that. But, as someone who was a proponent of Anderson his first few years, I’ll be the first to admit I was really wrong about that and it was definitely time for us to move on. You have a candidate like Pitino who apparently really wanted to come here and looks like he has one last exclamation point he wants to add to his career, it’s a no-brainer decision.

Dang. Sucks Posh is leaving but I’m sure there’s a reason. Obviously he talked with Pitino and the coach and player weren’t on the same page about something so he chose to leave. From a fan perspective I wish he would have stayed but it is what it is. Won’t shed a tear. We all wanted to win and here are your growing pains.

Wish them well. Hope they all land on their feet.

But this tells me 3 things:
1) Pitino is serious about overhauling the roster
2) He is confident he will land players at or above the skill level that is leaving and more importantly fit him and what he is building at SJU and
3) He is serious about WINNING NOW. He is not screwing around. This won't be Mullin's 1st year of 1-17 roster overhaul. With the portal and immediate eligibility and Pitino's reputation for winning everywhere he goes he will get difference makers who can play right away.

It’s difficult for us , as fans , to understand what the Portal System has done to college BB . It’s made these Players Free Agents . Loyalty to School is non existent when another opportunity exists . Portal players will find homes . The top ones will go to Schools who want to compete for a National Championship . The mid tier guys will find their spots too . All our now former players will find new schools and we wish them the best . Pitino knows what he’s doing and while it may seem foreign to us , the Portal has changed the Recruiting process completely . CMA lost a lot of players too, Figgy and all the Mullin recruits plus Dunn, Moore and Cole . Once we all step back and realize the Players we lost finished 8 th in the BE and won 5 games against even lower bottom dwellers . 2 Quality wins in the BE, UCONN and PC . That’s it ! If they all returned would results be much better ? Pitino is a great Coach , not a miracle worker . He wants his own players . He will get them and their talent will exceed those who left . Best of luck to the former Johnnies .

I gotta believe, with Posh and Storr leaving, that Pitino knows who’s coming that will upgrade the backcourt right away. I’m a fan of both players, and I believe they would have contributed a lot next year with his coaching and system. That said, he’s won big everywhere, so he deserves to pick the players he wants.

I could care less that these players are all leaving! I am happy that Soriano is staying because he is a star in the making and earned everything. I’m interested in players not emotional attachments. Others have too much downside to bring team to elite status. You’ve got the best in Pitino which you all wanted . Now you all doubt the best? Gimme a break. The doubters just like to hear themselves talk, no sense in the criticisms.
