I watched a podcast the other day with the Miller brothers and the Van Gundy brothers talking about Coach Pitino. Definitely done over a year ago. Sean was referencing his recruitment trip to PC in 1987, when JVG was a GA under Rick. He said it made him question how much he loved to play basketball. Also, how much effort Billy D put in. That was 36 years ago and the players and rules have changed, so has CP. At the end of the day, these kids will have to earn it. Soriano has put in time and will put in more time. That seems like a big part of what Coach Pitino looks for.
He had plenty of seasons at UAB and Missouri and even Arkansas that he went to the NCAA's as well. That is not the result of scheduling. Yes here at SJU especially this past year the winning season streak could be attributed to the schedule. But people are acting like he was some neophyte coach who never had won or coached at this level. That is not fair.
Time to get real and look at the results of kids who used the portal last year and achievements they had. It was noted above about the success in BE all conference teams. One of the reasons is that some players were overlooked as HS seniors and only got offers from Mid Majors or D-2 schools but showed their skills at that level and became "offerable" by Major conference schools. Kids can be late bloomers or they might not have access to AAU teams where they get noticed "on the circuit". The kid on Creighten is a prime example. Who looks at kids playing Basketball in S. Dak.
Broome from Morehead State to Auburn, lead them in scoring. Lofton from St. Bonnies to Florida, lead in A's, 4th in scoring. Ndefo from St. Pete's to Hall. Omier from Ark St, to Miami, leads Miami in R's and scoring 13+. Scheierman from S. Dak St. to Creighton. Sears from Ohio U. to Bama, second leading scorer, leader in steals. Smith from Tenn.-Chat to Gonzaga, top sub, avg. 9 and 4. Williams from Murrat St. to LSU, lead team in scoring (18), rebounds (8), steals and blocks.

Nah, it's that elitist Maher and his juggling Stanley's small sample size numbers. He's probably eating a caviar covered lobster roll and swilling champagne as I type this.
I think he heads to the south or Midwest where the schools that recruited him were initially from. We were the outlier in the northeast. Just a guess.
Markquis Nowell of Kansas State too. Was at Little Rock for three years and just led Kansas State in scoring and assists.
A lot of St. John’s posters were all over this kid too.

I know Arkansas and Missouri fans weren’t happy with him but the 4 or 5 times a year I saw his teams play a year I thought his teams were enjoyable to watch, especially at UAB.
He did a shit job here though and just didn’t understand using the roster to defend him.

Yep, he CRP knows what he is doing - until in fact it’s proven otherwise… change can be painful, disconcerting but it’s what has to be if SJU intends to rise up the ranks.
I understand that and Syracuse fans were not happy with Boeheim at the end or Kentucky fans with Calipari that does not make them shit coaches.
A coach's body of work should matter over the course of a 20-30 year career even if he did not do a great job or even good job for parts of it.

For the record I am not disagreeing with you. Count me as surprised how poorly this worked out for us.
Speaking of Kansas State, I wonder if how their fans felt at this time last year, with no coach and players leaving the program.

I wouldn't go anywhere except the gym and bball court, I'd be practicing like a maniac. I'd be pissed off all summer and working on my game every freaking game. Family goes on vacation, I'm not going unless I'm sure there's a bball court there.
I'd prove him wrong, but guess some people are just soft. They believe what their told instead of believing in themselves. Oh well.
Storr, good luck kid, wish you stayed but your choice. Hope you shine wherever you wind up.

My guess; a couple of the Pitino haters are actually CMA apologists who just changed their names. They're miserable f__ks who can't stand the fact that their guy didn't work out, and that we now have a coach who 99% of the fanbase is behind. I think there is more to it then that because the new coach is going to favor his guys. So Storr is already behind the 8 ball. Its actually not fair but that is how it works.
