STOP with the beautiful campus excuse!I think the frustration that I am beginning to feel is that relatively speaking at least for next season it clearly seems that mostly all we have to offer is Pitino and if anything it feels Iike I could understand a kid taking a little less money to go to a beautiful campus so it seems for a while we have to be at the top of the NIL market for more players then we would have hoped.
WELL SAID. Funny how that wasnt an issue when we were winning under lavin and well Mullin. That wasnt an issue when we went to the elite 8. So it's not an issue TODAY. "If you build it they will come" Thats what RP is doing starting to build a culture for great basketball here at SJU.STOP with the beautiful campus excuse!
These guys are going to a particular school to play basketball and not take daily walks in Duke's arboretum.
They live in the gym.
A classroom is a classroom.
A dorm room is a dorm room.
A practice gym has a hoop.
I remember going to a Syracuse game many years ago for the first time. It was January and it was bitter cold with a foot of snow covering the campus. My reaction was "Why would any kid want to spend 4 years here?"
You could be right about wanting a different environment.I wish people would stop saying it’s all about the money. USC has money, maybe the young man, for his own personal reasons, wants a different environment. None of us really know.
Eh as someone who went to undergrad at a southern school and then went to graduate school here, I totally disagree. Dorms and class rooms are a massive downgrade at St. John's. I was actually in shock at how old and outdated St. John's was in comparison, besides a couple buildings like D'Angelo Center which were at least decent.STOP with the beautiful campus excuse!

Just tryin to do my part every day Wolfie. Sometimes I forget what thread I’m in.Thanks for putting us back on track, BB.
Further, while SJ campus may not be as sprawling as state schools, it is pretty nice. And, even the picturesque schools ultimately become what they are - school.STOP with the beautiful campus excuse!

The culture Rick Pitino is referring to is the organization culture which defines its personality. Our basketball culture had become a toxic culture with low morale which led to poor performance.WELL SAID. Funny how that wasnt an issue when we were winning under lavin and well Mullin. I love sju as much as anybody but the campus is most certainly not “pretty nice.” Not even close.Further, while SJ campus may not be as sprawling as state schools, it is pretty nice. And, even the picturesque schools ultimately become what they are - school.
Disagree. Didn’t say it was Penn State-like. But, for an urban campus, it is pretty nice. UCONN, for example, is nothing to look at.I love sju as much as anybody but the campus is most certainly not “pretty nice.” Not even close.
Totally cool. Hopefully recruits will share your view. Everything is subjectiveDisagree. Didn’t say it was Penn State-like. But, for an urban campus, it is pretty nice. UCONN, for example, is nothing to look at.
Pretty nice compared to what? As it relates to the blue bloods like Kentucky and Duke it’s not at all pretty nice. But this has been an issue since before Mashburn committed to Kentucky. That’s a long time. We have The Garden and a top top coach developing players and coaching games. That’s big!Disagree. Didn’t say it was Penn State-like. But, for an urban campus, it is pretty nice. I wish we had a campus in Manhattan instead of Queens. That would do wonders for recruiting.Pretty nice compared to what? I dare say you have not visited the St. John's dorms. They are among the newest in the nation. And, I've visited dorms at Ivy League schools with multi-billion dollar endowments.Eh as someone who went to undergrad at a southern school and then went to graduate school here, I totally disagree. That said, I do agree with your overall point that it's not the reason players commit. They're going to commit primarily for basketball and NIL. Hoping St. John's is still able to compete in NIL because results this off-season have not been great thus far.
Outside of California, most sprawling state schools are very unremarkable. Look at all the NY state campuses.Further, while SJ campus may not be as sprawling as state schools, it is pretty nice. And, even the picturesque schools ultimately become what they are - school.

Unless your undergrad classrooms had leather upholstered chairs and views of the beach, I never saw a big difference.
In many northern campuses, if a recruit visited in winter, they would see mostly snow covered streets and certainly no coeds wearing short shorts.
Places like Wisconsin, Michigan, South Bend, Syracuse come to mind.
there are singles within the dorms but they are very hard to get. But I mean, hey, it's college, I would argue living with roommates is a big part of the experience and I had some of my best memories there hanging out with roommates and suite mates. So I wouldn't personally cite that as a negative but I guess that comes down to personal preference. When were the dorms built? Do they now offer single bedrooms with shared living areas for 4 roommates? I went to SJU from 2012-14, though I lived in the Manhattan / Murray St dorms (now torn down). I did however go to the Queens campus for classes / Graduate Assistant work a few times each week and the classrooms are awful... felt like a 1950s high school. As for the dorms they didn't allow me to get a bedroom for myself (always had my own bedroom in college where I shared the common area with 3 roommates) so I opted for the Manhattan campus even though I had to share a room there as a grad student. But hey, at least it was Manhattan and not Queens.

As for the classrooms, now that I see your point. The classrooms within Marillac and SJH are very old at this point. My senior year there, so 2019-20, they renovated the bottom 2 floors of Marillac and modernized them quite a bit. Which was nice. But it was like putting lipstick on a pig. But St. John Hall is just unbelievably bad looking on the interior.
