Transfer Portal

Okay, but we have no clue yet IF the roster will be "inferior to most of the league".
It may well be given the late start, and also agree that the BEC is stacked with top notch coaches, so you may prove to be right but just too early to tell at this point in my view...particularly with Rick fully engaged in the recruiting / portal hunt.

On paper, as it stands now we have a clue, but it's early still I hope. He'll need to snag a couple of the remaining top recruits and/or transfers to not have to rely on his coaching to make up the talent gap. Many BE schools, including pretty much all those who made the dance this year, plus Nova, have contributors returning PLUS recruits and transfers coming in ranked higher than the recruits and transfers signed so by STJ so far, including Alleyne who is leaving UConn, it would appear to the untrained eye, because he's been recruited over (2 top 50 frosh coming in at his position). I am hopeful that the present flow continues with upgrades in quality.

What a fanbase. The greatest thing to happen to this program since Chris Mullin decided to say no to Duke and yes to Looie, and the malcontents are bemoaning the loss of players that were often attacked on this same board relentlessly. Posters here are acting like if we don't dance next season, college basketball will be shuttered like the XFL. It's a month in to year 1. Let's calm down. Pitino, unlike the nay sayers here, knows exactly what has to be done to build a top notch program. It's a science for him.

Pitino has to put together the infrastructure to succeed in today's college sports landscape. That means NIL money and facilities upgrades, or at least the promise of them. The most pressing need was accomplished quickly, which was eliminating the stench that surrounded this program and allowed for players to disrespect their coach and university under CMA's final season.

There are no guarantees at St. John's. But Pitino is the closest thing to a certain victory as the Bruno Sammartino back breaker, or the Hulk Hogan leg drop. But I did see at least one wrestler kick out at 2 after the leg drop, so you never know. But at least we can rest assured that if Pitino doesn't turn this program around, it was hopeless to being with.

Who cares who was higher rated they are like 4 years apart from one another. Not even close to being in the same class.

Olivari averaged 18 this past season, he has 4 full years of college basketball under his belt. Good shooter. Dropped 28 on Texas this past season.

Cruz will hopefully be a nice piece for our future but let’s not kid ourselves. In their NCAA tournament game he logged 8 minutes and scored 1 point. He averaged 6ppg/1rpg/1apg.

This is not someone we should be expecting to come in and play serious minutes for a big East team.

Yes we have players to add and im excited about that. But see a lot celebrating/patting ourselves on the back going on on twitter and I don’t feel like we’ve added a real next level game changer yet. All I’m saying.

But I agree with mean Gene def gotta wait and see how it all plays out
It has been reported by Zach that Davis was slowed late in the season by an achilles tendon injury.

Going back further McKoy, Gilroy, Plair, and 2 transfers Reggie Carter and Bernard Rencher was a hell of a class and was right near the top in the nation. Realize the transfers were not technically "in the portal" but since they didn't have a portal in those days and they were transfers you can't get me for going off topic. 😜

Hopefully Pitino's finishing move is better than Hogan's, which was barely one step up from winning via airplane spin or abdominal stretch.

One of my favorite teams

I think any clue we have at this point is that our roster and our prospects for next season are far better than they were 48 hours ago.
And with Rick on the hunt, I think we should stay tuned for more good news this week and in the weeks ahead.
At this point, that's the takeaway for me at least.

What is that a clue to? We're discussing the ability of next year's roster to compete with other BE teams, not the fact that they finally have enough players to do so.

Here's to good news coming.

I will add that while I may seem down on the players coming in, the fact that they're at least tested and mature and signing on to RP's vision is positive.

Fair enough.
I see a glass half-full because of the guy in charge of the drinks who had a late start to Happy Hour---otherwise we'd be unable to drink fast enough.
Lol.
