Transfer Portal

Long time since I posted but for those who think the “game” has left Pitino behind, I think the direct opposite is the truth. He and Repole are no one’s fool and I more than just believe they are focusing BIG NIL packages for 2024 HS recruits with the model being offer economic packages enticing enough to keep great players from being “one and done”; like Tshiewbe at Kentucky or Timme for his last year at Gonzaga. THAT is where NIL is headed. Gardner and Clayton walked because of NIL; both are good players (one proven, one potentially) but deemed not worthy of their asking price; forget age, think program build and long term positioning.
Well, that would be a relief because the current NIL package seems to be a BOGO whopper coupon and a metro card. Now we are circling back to second tier Iona players.

Who said he can't win now? They are probably cleverly and shrewdly putting the NIL to use this season to position themselves for the '24 class. That doesn't mean they can't land viable pieces while being pragmatic. Sit back and stop being edgy all the time.
It's easy to be on edge when 100 percent of the news we've received since Rick's arrival has been negative. He's made some big mistakes. Hopefully, they can be undone.

Pitino just gave UCONN their toughest test on the way to a national championship, I'm pretty sure he can still win now

I think he’s making more than that in the NBA.
He makes 6 with the bulls but in all likelihood this is his last year, whether it be by firing or ‘taking a new job’. I thought we could give him a soft landing. Of course he could just say, college, St. John’s, or just working in general was not for him anymore.

Im not sure what kinda mental gymnastics it takes to make that statement. They lost by 24 points. But if you’re saying ‘they held a lead against UConn farther into the game than anyone else’. That’s not true either, St Mary’s holds that distinction. The also lost by more points than anyone other than Gonzaga. I have no idea what happened to Gonzaga. They have a HOF coach and they got taken to the woodshed as well.

Someone recently posted he heard from a reliable source that the staff was positioning NIL towards the 2024 class. Whether there's validity or not; it sure as hell makes sense.
It doesn’t to me if the only BE caliber player on the team is Soriano, We have a whole roster to fill now. Many of the transfers have multiple years of eligibility.

This is where a few of y'all start to go down the rabbit hole. There's tons of time and available players to choose from. Players are entering the portal on a daily basis.

Just because the staff could be keenly eyeing the '24 class; it doesn't mean they're gonna ignore this upcoming season without putting a viable roster on the floor. It's April 11th. Relax.

We already had the Coliseum. The building needed some work and Pitino was the right man for the job. There are no better game coaches in America. None.

The complaint is Pitino decided to tear the building down and start from scratch with no plan in place. Many of us have gone from elation to disappointment. That's a tough ride.
We had the Coliseum? LOl!! 🤣🤣

I believe that to be the case; ”donors” are also realizing that to make a large investment in a player only to have them jump at least once to a higher bidder with no strings attached is a bad investment. What an NIL with strings attached (years of committed service, if you will) will look like remains to be seen but I don’t think there is any doubt that is the way it is going. I think it no coincidence that Pitino and Massiello’s first (or at least very early) visit was to Fland and Jackson, both of whom have NIL HS deals and are both great, team oriented, mature, winning matters, players.

What "big mistakes" has Pitino made in the 3 weeks that he's been at SJU? Missing out on some recruits? Signalling to the existing roster that they're either no longer wanted or will have to earn the playing time they've been accustomed to? Those aren't mistakes.

Primo Spears(Gtwen) and Khaliff Battle(Temple) are walking buckets. Any clue why we are not looking at these 2?

Some positive food for thought. Today sju officially announced all the men's basketball coaches. What does that mean is that officially Rick didn't have everyone on board except van and Masiello (maybe) working. Now he has a full staff it's all steam ahead. Three weeks in he had to get his staff hired recruit tryout the current team and get started on the portal. Lot to take in three weeks (not including the first two days basically all press conferences etc...). I think many of us know it's gonna take time and the fair weather posters here already getting the pitch forks iut which is insane .
