Transfer Portal

Long time since I posted but for those who think the “game” has left Pitino behind, I think the direct opposite is the truth. He and Repole are no one’s fool and I more than just believe they are focusing BIG NIL packages for 2024 HS recruits with the model being offer economic packages enticing enough to keep great players from being “one and done”; like Tshiewbe at Kentucky or Timme for his last year at Gonzaga. THAT is where NIL is headed. Gardner and Clayton walked because of NIL; both are good players (one proven, one potentially) but deemed not worthy of their asking price; forget age, think program build and long term positioning.

Why are they already classified as mistakes before we let them play out?
As someone wrote "You don't have to be a weatherman to see which way the wind blows."
What "big mistakes" has Pitino made in the 3 weeks that he's been at SJU? Missing out on some recruits? Signalling to the existing roster that they're either no longer wanted or will have to earn the playing time they've been accustomed to? Those aren't mistakes.
I believe he thought he only had to get on the phone and recruits would beg to come here. That was a mistake. Telling the existing roster they're no longer wanted with no solid plan to replace them is another mistake. I could go on...

How do you know he told the existing roster they are no longer wanted? Everything I've heard is that he asked both Posh and Storr to stay. I have no idea what conditions he attached to the offer to stay. I also don't know that he did not ask any other members of the prior roster to stay.

Right...we don't know. This site is a wealth of misinformation. Did Posh and Storr say they were asked to stay? I don't know, but it seems awfully far fetched to me.

Glad to see you post again.

Please do

Primo Spears doesn't strike me as a "winning player." A decent player but lacks intangibles.
Primo Spears lacked a very big intangible. A coach!
Georgetown sucked not because the players sucked but because they were allowed to run amuck much like our players this past year.
Posh didn’t suck but next to Andre Curbelo he didn’t know his role any longer. By mid-February it was too late. The damage was done. The backcourt sucked compared to that of the top of the league.

I think CMA messed up Posh’s game.

I think CMA messed up Posh’s game.
Whatever happened to Posh it affected his on-court decision making and there may have been internalized effects outside of just his role and offensive lapses.
There likely were other things going on that led Rick Pitino to his description of a team lacking a winning culture.
The players I thought would benefit the most from Pitino were AJ Storr, Posh Alexander and Wusu as a role player.
The decision to enter the portal for these three is a little puzzling even if Pitino challenged them to prove their team value as starters.
Once their college playing days are over they will be in that position every single year. This would have been an ideal opportunity to deal with the competitive aspects of basketball and life.
