Transfer Portal 2022

Obviously very early still, but what do we make of the fact that none of our kids have entered the portal yet?  Good sign I think.  Certainly better than the alternative.
I was thinking that myself but then thought, maybe there is no movement while several teams re still involved in playing and some new coaches hav not settled in. We can only hope that the players stay put, it will be challenging enough if they all do.

His Akron team was good this year, danced but for whatever reason Bryan and team parted ways. He missed the Dance.

Source: Akron junior Bryan Trimble Jr has entered the transfer portal.

Averaged 10.4 points, 2.1 rebounds 0.7 assists. Grad transfer.

Definitely a good sign but we will certainly have to hold our breath for another few weeks. Most likely some back channeling going on and kids are figuring out what's best for them.

Was thinking this during their game today and now seeing some probably baseless rumors floating around online about it but Curbelo had an absolutely horrific season at Illinois this year and was buried on the bench the entire second half of their loss to Houston today. He had a very solid freshman season but went backwards this year. Maybe it was the injury, who knows.

Wonder if his name will hit the portal and if he's interested in coming back home, especially considering the assistant that recruited him to Illinois isn't there anymore. I have no idea if our staff would be interested, I personally don't think it would be a good fit seeing how he's another small guard that can't shoot, but it's a thought that's floating out there.

I can see him going to Seton Hall, where he can be brought along by former PG Holloway. And unless I'm wrong (as I often am), there'll be an open PG spot at the Hall next year.

I am not big on allowing players to make organizational decisions, but I might ask Posh how he feels about playing with Curbelo before pursuing.  They definitely know each other.

I recall reading that Jay Wright after a recruiting visit actually polls the players to see if they want to bring the recruit into the family.

Kadary Richmond still has a couple years of eligibility left but teams obviously love having multiple PGs on the roster, though Kadary is another guard that doesn't really shoot so not sure how well they'd mesh either.

How is Trimble still only a junior?

Bobby Hurley losing three players to the portal, including his lone all-pac12 player.

Seat going from warm to hot?

Must be tough to get Jersey kids to go to Arizona? Is his pipeline drying up?
Not with what that campus looks like on a warm day, which I assume is pretty much always. Probably missing Burno though.

The curbelo stuff is just internet rumors right now.  He had a pretty good concussion this year (not his first) which cost him the 2nd half of the season. He became a scapegoat for the Illini’s fans when he came back.

people on the internet connect a few dots and throw out rumors that people run with. Could it happen over time? Yeah. But nothing out there now is factual. He’s not coming here to backup posh. And posh isn’t staying here to split the position. Take what you want from that

Is it how the campus looks on a hot day or its inhabitants?

There are many players who have been courted under radar by sharks for a while. There are also kids who make a move partially based on feedback from coaches after end of season discussions with staff re their role next year, as much as one can believe some coaches. Imo, you will soon see a new wave of portal guys over next two to three weeks.

hopefully our guys have had those convos already... seeing from what the kids are posting on the socials- they are continuing to work out on campus / hang out together (i take that as a good thing- cause they could choose not to post at all)

Pault, are you speaking in terms of the portal in general, or about our guys? I know it’s impossible to predict this stuff but just wondering.

In general

The transfer list grew by more than 200 names last week up to 481 names.

On the Monday at the tail end of the 2021 First Round, the list stood at 688 names and grew to 934 names by the end of the week.
