Might as well sign him.
It's the only way we're going to have a Chris Mullin associated with the program.

Hammond from Niagra would be a great get for us. Can really shoot/score; had 25 vs. Xavier and 22 vs. Ohio State this year an indication competition level wouldn't be a problem.

Of course, Stef Smith shot 43% from 3 one season at VT so I take everything with a grain of salt.

Not sure what accounted for Stef Smith’s poor shooting this year.  He missed a lot of open looks.  I never got the sense that the competition was too fast for him.  Not sure he’s the best example.

JPM114 texted me noting he likes Marcus Hammond and knows his game well. He feels he can defend well but can be challenged going up against very big, physical guards. John noted he has a very good mid and long range game. Chris Casey originally recruited Marcus, but was last coached by Greg Paulus. We’ll see if Van has any interest soon enough.

Chris Casey?!?
This is like six degrees of Norm.

Piece in the Buffalo News on Hammond transferring says 8 schools have already been in contact and lists Pitt and Iona.

Also I see this a lot they mention the fact that he has graduated so he will be immediately eligible.  That grad transfer rule was done away with when the new one time transfer rule went into effect.  Grad transfer or undergrad transfer makes no difference, as long as this is your first transfer you can play immediately.

He covers MAAC fwiw and also noted
“Marcus Hammond in the portal comes as no surprise. With the COVID year on the table, he’s attractive to a number of high-major suitors.”

I think we need to land one of Hammond or Wynter if they are interested. A bird in the hand . . .

I have no clue what Iona's roster looks like, but if If I'm Pitino, I'm trying for both.

Probably same goes for Hofstra.

Marcus Hammond, Niagara transfer & Queens native;

Since entering the portal, Hammond told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he has heard from Pitt, Iowa State, Fordham, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Cal, Arkansas, Temple, Cincinnati, Butler, DePaul, and Penn State.From Pitt’s end, associate head coach Tim O’Toole reached out to Hammond’s father, and shortly after, Hammond heard from Jeff Capel.

How come we’re never mentioned with any of these kids? But, Cragg said our staff is out there working hard.

Maybe when we are involved with a kid we are included in the others category as we are a national afterthought and are not worth a mention by name to the national recruiting gurus.
