Im not sure why Curbello keeps coming up. Hes going to go somewhere where he can run the point. Thats not happening at St johns.
There are plenty of other threads to discuss CMA this is about transfers. Any other posts on this topic in this thread will be removed.PharmDJohnnie11 post=466300 said:I agree with you.Paultzman post=466299 said:We need a two home runs, not singles to compete next year, perhaps triples
But if this is the case (and it’s very likely we don’t get any difference makers) why are we bringing Anderson back for a 4th year?
Mind numbingly dumb.
Am I missing something on Touissant. He averages 4 PPG and can't really shoot that well, yet he's rated as #6 rated transfer and a 5-star level transfer by this site. https://evanmiya.com/Andrew post=466311 said:I could see Touissant here. If you give him minutes like Dunn had you will see him score appx 12 points get 5 assists and 3 steals a game. Would be a small but tough as nails NYC backcourt with Posh. I also think he picks up the system pretty quickly. Down side is that they are really small and dont shoot it from the outside so you need excellent shooters to pair. Wouldn't be ideal but could be worse.

I've seen people on twitter referencing this site is it legit?
Having watched him play a lot, I would say that is a little overrated. He has only averaged 16 minutes a game but scored about 5 ppg, 3apg and a little over a steal a game. If you double that you would get numbers closer to Posh and he is just as tenacious a defender. Since at this point he is probably a slightly worse shooter then Posh it seems an odd fit, but he likes to play at a fast pace which didn't fit at Iowa. I would think he would be a better fit at a school where he would be a pass first point guard who attacks the basket on a better shooting team. But for those who liked the Alexander/Dunn backcourt, this would be a significant upgrade and if you could find the right players to put around them we could be just as good as this season and maybe get a little more luck. No idea if he would sign here but this is probably CMA's thought process.

Hopefully we land Gardner. Otherwise it could be a long year. More than a couple of posters have commented that Mathis won’t be back . From his body language this year , I never got the idea he was happy playing here . No doubt he is a excellent defender but , the bunnies missed were substantial and the dunk tries that would up at mid court after clanking off the rim were more than a few . He will find a home elsewhere , if the rumors are true . Kind of in that Justin Simon category , great defender , not a great shooter.
That write-up on Touissant sounds like he's a clone of Posh and Wusu. You take the good--which can be very good--with some bad. He would fit nicely into Mathis' minutes if we lose him.Paultzman post=466343 said:Interesting Iowa comments on Toussaint fwiw;

That is a huge problem. We need less clones of Posh and Wusu. Mathis was a clone and didnt work here.mm52 post=466344 said:That write-up on Touissant sounds like he's a clone of Posh and Wusu. As this NCAA tournament has shown us, you can never have enough quality defenders.That is a huge problem. We need less clones of Posh and Wusu. Mathis was a clone and didnt work here.
We have enough Posh and Wusu type players. We need kids who can shoot the lights out or this team will have the same problems as always.

Another big issue is roster continuity. Last year, we had to incorporate 9 new guys into CMA's system. We all saw how that worked out. If everyone still on the roster comes back (and that's not a certainty), we will have 6 or 7 scholarship players who have never played a minute in a St John's uniform. That is a major area of concern IMO.
We still have 3 schollies open for next year. Our staff needs to make prudent use of the transfer portal to bring in some guys who can shoot the ball and blend into the system. Here's hoping they can make that happen.
Exactly. Bringing in any guard who cant shoot is complete insanity. If hes a C+ or B- defender, thats fine. We cant keep doing the same thing over and over. We know what those results are.MarkRedman post=466351 said:We have a lot of needs heading into 2022-23 but I think we need one thing more than anything else - SHOOTERS!!!!!! All 4 teams remaining are better offensively than they are defensively, as were 10 of the 16 teams that made the sweet 16.mm52 post=466347 said:As this NCAA tournament has shown us, you can never have enough quality defenders.That is a huge problem.
