Transfer Portal 2022

With the exception of maybe Posh and Wheeler, if they return, IMO we need upgrades at every other position if we are going to offset the loss of Champ and improve on last season. While hooky for improvement from our existing players is nice, I don't see any of them making the kind of leap to make a huge difference. Possible yes, likely no. We need talent from the portal.
Talent upgrade especially in shooting area is a must in my opinion. Just look at the Dance

You take Key if you can IMO.
I think he would be key but I don't think he is CMA's "type" of player especially with already having Soriano. If we add another big to Soriano and Nyiwe I think it has to be a more mobile rim protector big.

I hear you but what key does best is finish around the basket and that might be where we struggled most. Plus say what you will about the big 10 but if you can play well against bigs there then you can play well against bigs anywhere.
Hey I like him I was just trying to figure out CMA's thinking on him, definitely wanted him out of high school. Maybe if we take him it would prompt one of our guys to transfer and it would probably be an upgrade.

Key is a quality player but we’re good at the 4 and 5 with Soriano, Niywe, Stanley , wheeler and Traore. We need need wing shooters. Wheeler can and will play a lot of 3 for us and he can shoot but we need a couple of bonafide wings who can shoot. If you ask me to choose between Key and a knock down wing shooter I’ll take the shooter. That’s our biggest weakness.
If Key is indeed entering the portal and there is interest on his end in playing at SJU then it would be malpractice to pass on him. Key is far more polished than both Stanley and Nyiwe and would be a clear upgrade over both. Getting Key does not eliminate the staff from picking up a couple shooters in addition.

as well as getting to the basket. We need a
another guy who can score off the dribble/consistently get to the paint

Key is an upgrade over three of the five guys you mentioned and would contend with Soriano easily.  Getting him does not negate improving elsewhere.

Providing they all return SJU can reasonably expect improvement in the following players:
Stanley- he contributed so little offensively that part of his game has to improve
Nyiwe- he was a better player at the end of the season and big men tend to develop slow
Soriano- I don’t think he ever got into the shape needed for him to contribute at a high level and with the off season to work on that and increase his minutes he could put up better numbers
Posh- his offensive game could improve immensely if he was able to shoot off the dribble using his speed and quickness to get open for 15 ft jump shots
Most of the improvements will probably be small steps but Posh becoming an offensive threat would be a major improvement

I can definitely understand that line of thinking Mug. Especially since he’s a New York kid and probably has friendships and relationships that could work in our favor as far maybe getting some other players. I’m fine with getting him as long as we still bring in a couple of shooters.

Bradley's Terry Roberts entered portal. Amityville kid who I suspected may transfer.

Also Woodley leaving South Carolina. I think we may have been mildly recruiting him because the name is definitely familiar. Didn't do much with the Gamecocks.

If we had a Starting frontline next year of Wheeler, Soriano and Key. You have to take that.

CMA would have to change his style of play. That is a plodding half court team.

This would make 5 different schools in 5 years for him.  He's already used his waiver, I have no idea what he's doing.  And my best guess is he's lying about the teams that are actively recruiting him again.  Everybody knows he's a huge headache.

Somehow hard to imagine Isaiah at BYU but maybe that's just me...

LOL!  Yes, that would be absolutely hilarious.

But, like I said, I'd be shocked if any of those schools had any actual interest other than just seeing his stats and asking about him.  Once a phone call is made and research is done, those schools aren't going to touch him with a 10 foot pole.  Remember last off-season he put out a final 5 of like LSU, Florida, and a few other big schools I can't think of right now, then he reopened his recruitment a few days after his top 5 announcement, and then ended up at Southern Miss.

You guys are nuts.

You take Zed Key in a milli-second.

We were a team where often Posh-our-freakin-point-guard-Alexander was the only one getting offensive boards and put-backs.

Zed is Billy Singleton with hops.

He automatically makes this team tougher.

Refreshed my memory on timing of last year's transfer commitments to SJU:
Stef Smith - March 26th
Aaron Wheeler - April 6th
Joel Soriano - April 15th
Montez Mathis - April 17th.

Coburn was much later but kind of a special set of circumstances there.

Next 3 weeks should be interesting.
I'm predicting a few April 1 huge commits
