I’m referring to the years under Coach Mike. We meet expectations his first year and exceed expectations his second season and then all of a sudden we don’t meet expectations his third season. Everybody wants to jump ship well it isn’t easy to come out of a 22 year hole. To add to this thread I heard we are in on 2 impact transfers.

Being in in two impact transfers and actually landing them are two different things entirely. I will believe it when I see it. Just don’t have much confidence right now.
You mean to say that you don't trust the word of someone who just appeared out of nowhere and  in support of Making Plays, and then after about 5 posts decided to change his name?
See this is what I'm talking about... I don't even say anything and it's a few of you that always have me on your mind.  I always get people that support what I say, that's why my likes far exceed my actual posts, yours on the other hand does not.  Most people like a positive outlook and civil debate, and despite what you and the 40+ year fan gang think people don't log on here to hear you guys complain all the time, nobody wants to hear that crap.

I am in the camp that believes continuity and experience play a huge role in how a team plays. And it gives me reason to be optimistic about the team If the core returns and they add a piece or two that contribute at BE level.

The Last 3 times we made the tourney our minute continuity ranks were:
2019- 109th (21-13)
2015- 47th (21-12)
2011- 15th (21-12)

other years since:
2012- 343rd (13-19)
2013- 157 (17-16)
2014- 47th (20-13)
2016- 340th (8-24)
2017- 293rd (14-19)
2018- 158th (16-17)
2020- 305th (17-15)
2021- 149th (16-11)
2022- 239th (17-15)

So the 5 seasons we’ve finished within the top 150 of roster continuity our record is 99-61 (62%) with 3 ncaas, another 20 win season and a 16-11 4th place finish. And the 7 seasons we’ve finished outside of the top 150 we’re 102-125 (45%).

Now this is actual data that's contributing the conversation.

I just like to say I enjoy your posts on both twitter and here.  I don't always agree with you, we'll have our back and forth moments, but at least you'll put together a decent argument and actually back up what you say, I can respect that.

Between the #SJUBB hashtag and a few guys on here that literally just make up stuff as they go, it's refreshing to see some people still actually care about facts.

going mg after the old guys we’ll kind of makes sense Most are burnt out!

I think Brennan realized people here are bonkers and was suddenly afraid to have his real name out there./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

That said, it's a little bonkers to think a college basketball rebuild can't move faster than 22 years. Even the Jets have won playoff games in that time.

And I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I heard Curbelo and Key are going to enter the portal.

I'd pass on both.... with a harder pass on Curbelo. Between Curbelo's 16% from 3, and Key's 55% from line among other deficiencies,I don't think either improves what we already have.

Illinois was on quite a bit this year, access through national games and Big Ten Network.
Curbelo didn't show much. He would get pulled at key moments in the game . Poor decision making, turnovers. Maybe as a depth guy behind Posh, Wusu and Pinzon, and he came in knowing that was his role.

Just for the sake of playing, I would take Key. I get the poor FT shooting, which is a concern, but he will help their front court.

Of course this is fluid because transfers will dictate need.

Two years ago... this possibility would have excited me...

Refreshed my memory on timing of last year's transfer commitments to SJU:
Stef Smith - March 26th
Aaron Wheeler - April 6th
Joel Soriano - April 15th
Montez Mathis - April 17th.

Coburn was much later but kind of a special set of circumstances there.

Next 3 weeks should be interesting.

I’d take Key who was in a boot towards the end of the season and came back.  Although “undersized” , he would provide a low post presence.   He is a good defender in the low post and can score down low with either hand along with being a good passer.  I get the free throw percentage which I might add is about 6% lower than last year  but I do like the field gold percentage.

Lastly, although the Big Ten is usually overrated, it is still a tough conference for which he has played key minutes so you don’t have the worry if he will be able to handle playing in or the playing style of a big six conference like you do someone coming from a mid-major.

If Champ declares, plus Storr & King, that technically leaves us with two more 'ships eight (assuming all others returned)?

You take Key if you can IMO.
I think he would be key but I don't think he is CMA's "type" of player especially with already having Soriano. If we add another big to Soriano and Nyiwe I think it has to be a more mobile rim protector big.

I hear you but what key does best is finish around the basket and that might be where we struggled most. Plus say what you will about the big 10 but if you can play well against bigs there then you can play well against bigs anywhere.

Right now if Champ leaves and Wheeler and Mathis return, we have 2 ships to give out.

1 open spot this past year, plus Champ, smith and Coburn on the way out, minus King snd Storr coming in. So at least 2 spots and I think we all assume 1 or 2 more.

Key is an excellent shot blocker despite being a touch undersized.

Hey I like him I was just trying to figure out CMA's thinking on him, definitely wanted him out of high school. Maybe if we take him it would prompt one of our guys to transfer and it would probably be an upgrade.

Key is a quality player but we’re good at the 4 and 5 with Soriano, Niywe, Stanley , wheeler and Traore. We need need wing shooters. Wheeler can and will play a lot of 3 for us and he can shoot but we need a couple of bonafide wings who can shoot. If you ask me to choose between Key and a knock down wing shooter I’ll take the shooter. That’s our biggest weakness.

With the exception of maybe Posh and Wheeler, if they return, IMO we need upgrades at every other position if we are going to offset the loss of Champ and improve on last season. While hooky for improvement from our existing players is nice, I don't see any of them making the kind of leap to make a huge difference. Possible yes, likely no. We need talent from the portal.
