Tournament or New Coach

What about Dunlap?

I don't think he would leave his new school that quickly.

Shaka Smart is my number one choice, overall. I would like to have a NYC guy, but Smart is my favorite college coach. Love everything about him. Maybe he can bring Terry Larrier back to NYC with him lol

Zero chance on both. Dunlap is West Coast guy in a job he is very happy with. Shaka can write his ticket & if he moves it will be for a destination far better than SJU in my opinion. We need to ground ourselves. SJU is a bit irrelevant now & not exactly a highly sought job. That is not to say we can't get a competent coach, but guys like Shaka aren't coming. Btw, VCU is a better job considering where he has program.

Either Smart or Miller with at least one asst who is plugged in to the NYC High School scene. Again, no more coaches that have either been fired from their previous coaching job or that no one else wants (IE BM and NR).

No thank you on Greenberg, Masiello and Mark Jackson. Just my opinion.

Danny Hurley intrigues me.

Um shouldn't Danny Hurley try getting to .500 at URI before we start wanting him as coach?

I too am very fond of D Hurley's one winning season as a college coach.

Danny Hurley has out recruited "Lav" and his hard working staff in both 2014 and the current 2015 recruiting cycles. Hurley went head to head with "Lav" in the 2014 recruitment of 4* Jared Terrell and Jared selected Rhode Island.

Ummmmm
Yeah
That's it.........

They should've hired Mark Jackson as soon as he was fired from Golden State.

Bring him in on a 2-year deal and let it be publicly known that he'd be looking to return to the NBA after his deal was up.

Then fill his staff with an assistant head coach in training like Antigua or Abbdelmassih who would handle the recruiting but take over when Jackson leaves.

It would immediately restore local credibility because none of these scumbag NY HS coaches and handlers would be able to push Jackson around because he already knows the landscape.

Every recruit would know that Jackson would be returning to the league so that would give them incentive to give us a serious look.

And we'd have proven local recruiters ready to take over when Jackson is ready to leave.

Too late for that as I don't think Jackson would sit out what would be 3 years at this point.

But that would've been the quickest and easiest transition that I could think of.

Good to see you posting again.

Too bad Jax pretty much despises SJU

1. Coach Hurley has recruited better that "Lav" during the 2014 and the 2015 recruiting cycles
(see: 4* Jared Terrell who "Lav" offered but chose to play for Coach Hurley).

2. If a winning record is a prerequisite for hiring or retaining a coach then please explain why "Lav" should have expected an extension last season since St.John's does not have a winning record during his 4 years under his leadership.

I believe Terrell HS or AAU coach is on URI staff now. That may have helped. Stick to rooting for Nova.

Where did I say he deserved one? I'll be waiting patiently for your response..........

1. I agree with moose, Hurley needs to prove more before we deem him our first option

2. I'm not a huge Lavin supporter as of late but we do indeed have a winning record since he's been here. Just throwing that out there

Terrell would be our fifth guard this year, whereas at URI he's starting. Think that PT might have had something to do with Hurley "recruiting better" than Lavin?

Marillac
Doc Butler
Medium t shirt

I'm not sure we can do better with the current state of the program than Doc B.

We'll need kids with long attention spans, because I'm not sure any of the plays Doc draws up would be less than 15 paragraphs. ;)

And Marillac is too mellow for this job now. We'd need the fiery one from eight years ago. :cheer:

I agree, this is a big year for Hurley. Losing Jordan Hare hurts, but he still has a number of guys (that he recruited) back. We should have a better read on him after this year.

Anyone know what NYC HS coaches think of him? I know Dad is well respected by the casual fan, but I have no idea what other coaches think of him?.
