Tariq Owens

Tariq's dad stirring the pot on Twitter again yesterday, complaining that he can't understand why all SJU fans can't be happy for his son. It was not a reply, it was a random tweet by him. I am sure he receives some lame comments from our fans, but geez.....let it go and enjoy Texas Tech's run.

I am sorry, but if you read him on Twitter, he makes it really hard to root for his son. If you don't see the tweets, just know he is not our friend. It's just constant is shots at St. John's.

People try to read too much into his tweets.

Sure he's a bit over involved, and vicariously living through son to a degree...but at same time the guy loves his kid, raised him well.

If SJU fans didnt engage him, it would be doubtful if there could even be perceived references of taking shots at SJU.

They believe he's in a better situation with a more engaged staff that has structure. They are in Elite 8 and he's playing as good or better than last year. Some may hate to admit it, but he's got a point.

If we were parents in the same situation at end of last season, we might have guided our kid to move elsewhere too. I'm sure it wasn't all roses last season.

His son is in the Elite 8 right now..........why on earth is he looking back and still tweeting about SJU? Again, there are some idiot SJU fans making comments, but he really can't take the high road and enjoy his son in the tournament?

I share is his feelings about our coaches, but I am not excited about him incessantly broadcasting them. Sorry, that guy just rubs me the wrong way.

Actually, if I recall, someone did mention something about Tariq and that is why his dad responded. Renard may have taken some indirect shots here and there, but he has stayed mum for the most part when it comes to his actual issues with our staff.

I have seen the dude being goaded by fans on many occasions as well. He also said, he would receive messages (which I don't doubt at all) from fans berating him and Tariq.

If anything, both parties should just let it ride. I have no issues with Tariq (or his dad). It's no big deal to me. Their plan paid off in the move to Texas Tech, and I'll casually be rooting for the Red Raiders later today.

I don't be begrudge them their decision either. I do see Dad's role on Twitter differently. IMO, he's always poking it at.

Tariq did well for himself but leave graciously
Ive been a St. John's fan for a long time. There my concern. He left our team Good bye. Good luck

Enough with newspaper articles about him etc

Let's go st John's!

Well he had a big game and will be playing in the Final Four. I don’t read Twitter so congratulations to the kid.

I am happy for Tariq and wish him well in the Final Four
The block and save that he made at the end of the game was epic
If his father wants to be a loud mouth, stir the pot and act like a jerk, that's on him
As far as I'm concerned, his antics don't reflect on Tariq at all

Congratulations to Tariq Owens, a once in a lifetime experience! He played well and under control.

Out of curiosity do you think he commissioned and wrote the article himself?

Glad he’s in the final four. Dude played in three of the six major hoops conferences in his career. His agenda worked out for him. Kudos.

What a great moment - happy for him, but couldn't help thinking, if only ...

Not sure of your point about the articles

George Willis or any other ny post writer enough
Good for the kid. He worked hard played with fire
His father should enjoy the moment and show some class

Tariq's dad could have easily not commented on some knuckleheads on social media.

Be 100 percent proud of your kid. Sing to the heavens about it. No one would have thought anything about it. He would have come across as mature, the way parents should act.

Afterall, this is your kid's moment. It's as if the dad did not want to be left out. He interjected himself into something he could easily have avoided.

The majority of us wish him luck in the final four. Heck, I was rooting for TT because of him, and because I dislike Gonzaga.

If any of my kids get in a position to succeed in something they love, I will have my phone locked away. I will enjoy being a passenger going through the waves of emotions and their ultimate path to happiness.
