No jabs the staff at STJ good people I have no ill will towards them. Emotions ran high when we decided to leave rightfully so. They wanted to keep Tariq because they Knew his value. I needed him to go because I didn’t believe he could have the year he needed to have at STJ[/quote] I always disliked his tweets. But he guided his son in the right direction. Have to ask what did the TT coaching staff do to bring out those kind of numbers from him, relative to his tutelage here.

Couldn't care less about Tariq. He left, my interest has moved on.

The numbers are virtually identical.

For someone that moved his son across the country to a new school he sure seems to talk about St. John’s every chance he gets.

I know we have a lot of fans on twitter who invite the back and forth with him, a lot of our twitter fans are clowns to be quite honest and they should just leave this guy be because clearly he loves and craves the attention

Clearly he made the right choice going to TT but let’s not pretend that he’s having some insane year that he couldn’t of had at St John’s. Our staff does a lot of things wrong but Tariq would’ve rebounded essentially by default on this team and scored his AMAZING 8.6 PPG here too.

Im glad he moved his son to Texas so he could average 9 points 5 boards. Maybe he will jump Zion now.

Let's talk reality for a second. Let's say TO played here for Jarvis and not mullin. No way Jarvis let's a 6ft 10 forward with zero inside game play 22 feet from basket hoisting 3's. Renard wanted more touches for Tariq here and though the should be a focal point of the offense. He should be thankful mullin allowed him to shoot from out there.

Chances are TO is not an NBA player. If he is then TT helped his career. If not he simply moved to a better team for his final college season.

We had no post game this season and it killed us offensively. Owen's wouldn't have helped one bit in our half cv out offense.

Owens would have made a difference on the defensive end. I do believe our team wins a couple more games with him. But.....it's spilled milk.

Once again he's a solid, not great player IMO. He got better coaching on a better team at TT. But individually, he's not some dominating force. His biggest asset that I miss is his passion. He always played very hard. Can't teach that. Even if we had Owens and Govan I would bet things wouldn't be very different here. The players we have do not have chemistry or fundamentals for the most part. Also low basketball IQ. That's what poor coaching does.

I think the move did not hurt him at all, but Owens would have had a bigger role here. He was looking for more offensive involvement and I think he would have gotten that at SJU with our more free flowing offense. I think his numbers actually might have been better. Our Achilles heel this season really is... lack of Owens to tell the truth. We really could have used him. He is playing well for a good Texas tech team. I think he would have made a bigger mark for himself staying, but certainly didn’t hurt his own stock. He hurt SJU’s tourney potential for sure. Can’t criticize him. I think his father should have shown more loyalty to SJU where he GREATLY improved. Almost all of his statistical improvement came at SJU, when he was extremely raw coming out of Tennessee. I can’t criticize because he was a grad player and we take plenty of those as well. His leaving certainly hurt us. This team wouldn’t have so many issues with big teams if he was still here. It’s unfortunate for us but can’t criticize him for leaving . Plenty of our own fans don’t think we can get to the next level with Mullin. In his final year of eligibility, it wasn’t a stretch to see what he could improve on from here.

We could've used him for sure, but I doubt we would look that much better with him. Marginally maybe. What I still don't understand is how a kid who was skinny as a bone for us suddenly puts on like 30 lbs of muscle or whatever it was overnight with TT. Is it our strength and conditioning coaches coming up short, or did he lack the motivation? Also remember DeLaRosa not losing weight but suddenly becomes skinny for another team after being obese here. Not sure if the trainers changed or not since him. To be fair, Trimble lost a lot here but the others are still mysteries.

Agree 100% with this. He would have certainly made a difference for us with interior defense, rebounding and depth. No question.

This guy sounds like an ego maniac. Tariq is not making the NBA whether he was on St John's or Texas Tech so what really was accomplished here?

Agree with that too, but I am only interested in how it impacted us. From our perspective, it hurt losing him. Even if as Zaun put it, he would have made a marginal difference, this year in the BE, that marginal difference could have meant 2 or 3 games. That would have been huge in terms of where we sit now.

I think he would have made a big difference. He’s super long, was a real good rebounder and shotblocker. We would have struggled much less with what is our Achilles heel of no functional big men. He was also great on the break and worked well in our schemes. It hurt us a lot imho because we didn’t have Keita quite a while and he isn’t what Owens was. Like I said, I don’t think he improved his stock at Texas Tech, and might have really shined a bit more here if he had stayed. He definitely hurt our potential. Look at us losing lately and why. Owens was one of the better bigs in the conference last year. With him on the team this year, we really would have had potential.

Owens was not a real good rebounder. He was an awful rebounder.

I was at the Duke game last year at MSG and this year at Cameron. Last year, Ponds and Owens killed Duke in the first half with the pick and roll. As we're watching the game at Cameron this year, my buddy (a huge Dookie who lives in Durham) asked how come we weren't running the pick and roll. The answer is obvious - our only legit big man doesn't have the hands for it.

Owens would have had an excellent year and we would have been a much better team with him. Keita isn't half the player Owens is.

Tariq is averaging 8.6 PTS 5.7 RPG shooting 23% from 3 (that guarantees not being in NBA)

Compare that to Nate Watson on PC who is at 11.7 PPG 5.2 RPG in less time. Tyrique Jones of Xavier is at 11.3 PTS 7.8 RPG in similar minutes.

He's not a gamebreaker...he's a solid role player. He would've helped but he was never going to be the focal point of any major program with NCAA aspirations IMO.

Much superior to anyone we have rebounding. Our guards re above-average rebounders, but that does not replace a big who grabs 5-8 a game, plus the defense and depth he would have provided.

Tariq is not a star and no one has ever said that. However, he is a very good complementary player and would have made a positive difference for us w/o question. He is a semi-finalist for NCAA defensive player of the year - that is by definition an impact player.
