@Syracuse, Wed. Dec. 21, 7pm, YES&RSN/970AM

Wow, I watched last night and was stunned as to where did this come from? Good win for the kids on the team. Gives them one to grow on.

Honestly, after watching Cuse it might be more a reflection of the season they are going to have. I will take it. Hopefully, it helps our players get better as they now may have some kind of point of reference as to what they can do when it works. I won't get over my skis to much as we are going to have a tough season but maybe we can surprise in a few spots which could help future recruiting efforts and show we are heading in a the right direction.

Finally, I thought it was interesting in that Lovett didn't have his most stellar game and yet team excelled. Makes it even more surprising.

Could be the turning point of the program. Could be a just another beatdown of a listless and gutless Cuse team that isn't very good. Those are the two extremes everyone probably wants to examine but in reality I think it was 2 steps in the right direction for a young team whose best players never experienced D1 basketball before November of 2016. This squad will continue to grow and have some great wins this winter, and some horrible losses. It will all be part of the growing pains that need to happen. What a point of pride to whoop them up there for a 2nd time in a row and 3rd overall!

There is more talent on the team than we shown. I doubt this any real turning point, but hopefully it gives the kids confidence that if they compete, they can win some games in the BE.

Did anyone else hear Gminski say we lost our last game to Penn St by 48 pts? It may have felt like that but was only 16.

You are right. I said to myself, "Did I miss something?"

Did you also hear him say he thought Boeheim's forfeited wins should and would be restored, tool, clueless.

:woohoo: Here I am living in Central New York, with tons of SU fans. Guess who is going to proudly wear his St. John's jacket to work? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine a 33 point massacre of the team that I hate the most at the Carrier Dome.
Don't rub it in. Stick it in and break it off!

Hard to find fault with last night's performance but that inbounds pass where Lovett was tying his shorts as the ball kept rolling and rolling toward the sideline and he was just taking his time tying his shorts then finally picked it up half a millimeter before it rolled out of bounds and jumped in the air and did a behind the back dribble really bothered the hell out of me. Ok on to Butler

Always tough to win on road for young team v admittedly a not very good Cuse team. That said, good for kids, staff. If they can grab an upset or two in BE & 4 or 5 wins, that's ok, hopefully setting tone for a team that can compete regularly in 2017 & also show recruits we're breathing.

I always keep in mind erratic nature of young squad & never get too high even after a good win. Our thin squad up front will also have its challenges running BE gauntlet, but let's see. The "grind" begins.

Gminski's comments throughout the game were clearly favoring the ACC team, and bashing the Big East team. He probably is still bitter about SJU knocking him/Duke out of NCAAs in '79.

With this team it is ok to get excited after wins, not going to be that many. If more people would have understood that going in, the Mullin bitching might have been less. At least until next year when it would be more deserving.

The formula for victory was very simple
27 assists on 34 made baskets
When you share the ball, good things usually happen

** Replay of the game is available on ESPN3.

Thanks O
I like to watch replays when
I know it's a W
No stress
Still fun
:)

PS I am hereby exercising my authority to declare a military state of abstinence from all topics concerning CM's tenure which declaration shall expire after year 4 of the Mullin et al. Regime!!! :) :) :)

I don't mean this to sound negative because I'm very happy about a confidence building win, which is long overdue. However, Syracuse could not have played worse. If the team hit more free throws we would have won by 45. How is that even possible the way the team has been playing? Syracuse didn't show up.

Our video coordinator (do we have one) should be compiling a montage of the good and bad so that these kids see what happens when they move the ball, let the game come to them and play with intensity.

That said, terrific effort by the entire team and staff. Well done

It was a beautiful game to watch

Well said Dee and a bit more - understandably - optimistic than your first ore-game post on this topic
Happy holidays!

I never count a Boeheim team out in the long term. As much as I hate the Orange he is a great coach but this is not your typical Boeheim team. Recruiting is down in the north country and they imported 3 guys not developed in the Boeheim system. It is similar to what we had last year where your hired guns come to play more for themselves than a storied program or coach.
As for Lovett, this was actually a pretty good game for him. Look at his assists and point guard play. That should be his role instead of driving into the interior and getting stripped. Hope it continues as it complements Bashir, Ponds and Ellison.

I like your comment about showing recruits we are breathing. Sun. we looked Moribund. We now have a pulse. We are better than we have shown in the previous 2 games .Gotta have realistic expectations though. All I want to see this year is steady improvement from the coaches and players. Last night sure was a step in the right direction. Can we sustain it? Like SSG says, and only the old timers know what he is talking about, only the shadow knows.
