@Syracuse, Wed. Dec. 21, 7pm, YES&RSN/970AM

Hopefully Justin Cole has started the Molloy pipeline.

Can you elaborate Andrew the Second for the uninitiated/uninformed ( me)
Thanks

There are two very talented underclassmen at Molloy that are St. John's targets. Ironically, one of them is Cole Anthony, the son of a former Knicks guard. He is a class of 2019 and in the very distant horizon. Ironic because both justin Cole and Cole Anthony share Cole.
As for a Molloy pipeline, there wasn't one when Jack Curran, who was an alum was there, and I don't expect one to start now. Over the past 40 years we may have gotten 3 or 4 outstanding players from Molloy and they have good teams almost every year.
For many kids playing basketball in Queens St. John's is just TOO CLOSE to home unfortunately.

I don't mean this to sound negative because I'm very happy about a confidence building win, which is long overdue. However, Syracuse could not have played worse. If the team hit more free throws we would have won by 45. How is that even possible the way the team has been playing? Syracuse didn't show up.

what happened to Roberson. I thought he was supposed to be one of their better players and he barely got off the bench. anyway we beat them last year and they made a run to the final 4 so I wouldn't write them off just yet

In an interview with Katz just before the season started, Boeheim said this Syracuse team a very good team, one of the best in a very long time. This game was a demolition, and one of the most satisfying ones for us in a very long time.

The formula for victory was very simple
27 assists on 34 made baskets
When you share the ball, good things usually happen

Especially when you shoot 53% ... including 52% from beyond the arc.

Hopefully Justin Cole has started the Molloy pipeline.

'72 I agree with 95% of what you said. However, the TOO CLOSE to home is only part of that story. I can tell you first hand, that Jack Curran was not exactly on the SJU bandwagon even though he was an Alum. It is an old story but Curran harbored some anti Lou sentiment as he thought he was in line for SJU gig should Louie ever leave. When that didn't happen, let's just say SJU wasn't #1 on the list to funnel players. Remember that Lou (St. Ann's- precursor to Molloy) and Curran were both Stanners. I can tell you I never saw Coach Lou at Molloy in the 80's. I did see a lot of other head coaches there as Molloy had some decent recruits during that time, most notably Kenny Smith. Maybe things smoothed out later but the late Coach Curran did let's just say hold grudges.

Gminski's comments throughout the game were clearly favoring the ACC team, and bashing the Big East team. He probably is still bitter about SJU knocking him/Duke out of NCAAs in '79.

Did anyone else hear Gminski say we lost our last game to Penn St by 48 pts? It may have felt like that but was only 16.
Watched one rendition of highlights from the game and you would have thought Syracuse won the game. Realized the telecast was produced from the ACC network so announcers were from the ACC hence the obvious bias. Also Cuse won on Monday night by 48 so Gman's memory of his pre-game notes was as-cued.

We actually shot better from the field than the foul line. Maybe we should have a teammate stick a hand in the face of our free throw shooters so they feel the shot is contested.

saw that too and had the same thoughts. Was watching Tim Welsh and the other guy on ESPN and at one point Welsh interjects that The Big East needs some recognition. It was almost like he was rushing to get in a few key points about the Top 25 and being 7-2 vs ACC and the other guy cut him off. ESPN clearly has a no Big East policy.

Justin Cole played for Molloy High School last year. He is now a walk on for St. John's and got into last nights game after the dunk fest. St. John's is recruiting Molloy's highly sought after Junior center Moses Brown. Greg Anthony's son is a heavy recruited Sophomore guard at Molloy as well.

The walkons missed 4 straight from the line at the end, that's what lowered that number.

FT shooting has actually been good this year, until the last 2 games.

Free throw shooting and especially 3 point shooting
are very good this year. Have to give Mullin credit here. He will fix Freudenberg as well.

One of the biggest game to game swings I can recall seeing. Team has shown each extreme at least 3 times now, hope things settle more towards the energy and engagement last night as we move to conference play.

When we get those types of overall floor games from both Lovett and Ponds in the same game we can surprise better teams than Cuse. I'm sure we'll continue to have our share of stinkers for a variety of reasons but the potential when both of these kids are going at the same time is really there.

In addition to the 27 assists, every player shot over 50% or within 1 make of 50% (or greater). That's pretty impressive.

Don't know how much consistency we'll be able to generate, but good for staff and kids to have bounced back strong (Tulane and last night) from 2 of the 3 really bad losses this year in resounding fashion. Quality sign.

In the past Cuse's length at top of zone often lead to steals, deflections & turnovers. SJU did a nice job in that regard, stretching the zone it appeared. Between the few turnovers, high # of assists & obviously good shooting, it was a nice outcome.

According to Giminski last night we average a decent 72% from the line.

Always tough to win on road for young team v admittedly a not very good Cuse team. That said, good for kids, staff. If they can grab an upset or two in BE & 4 or 5 wins, that's ok, hopefully setting tone for a team that can compete regularly in 2017 & also show recruits we're breathing.

I always keep in mind erratic nature of young squad & never get too high even after a good win. Our thin squad up front will also have its challenges running BE gauntlet, but let's see. The "grind" begins.
I like your comment about showing recruits we are breathing. Sun. we looked Moribund. We now have a pulse. We are better than we have shown in the previous 2 games .Gotta have realistic expectations though. All I want to see this year is steady improvement from the coaches and players. Last night sure was a step in the right direction. Can we sustain it? Like SSG says, and only the old timers know what he is talking about, only the shadow knows.

Excellent points RS especially your comment/compliment of me lol
I like your reminders - realistic expectations and steady improvement!

I thought 15-17 Ws were doable now I'd be happy with 10-12 Ws and solid improving play.
