@Syracuse, Wed. Dec. 21, 7pm, YES&RSN/970AM

Gminski's comments throughout the game were clearly favoring the ACC team, and bashing the Big East team. He probably is still bitter about SJU knocking him/Duke out of NCAAs in '79.

Did anyone else hear Gminski say we lost our last game to Penn St by 48 pts? It may have felt like that but was only 16.
Watched one rendition of highlights from the game and you would have thought Syracuse won the game. Realized the telecast was produced from the ACC network so announcers were from the ACC hence the obvious bias. Also Cuse won on Monday night by 48 so Gman's memory of his pre-game notes was as-cued.
Its funny you say that. For the NCAA finals, I didn't know there were different networks . Watched the title game on an ACC network. Never witnessed any game so biased especially a title game.

All has been said pretty much, but this game made me think that this team just might reach double digit wins after all. I hope that this win doesn't turn out to be as highly inexplicable as last year's Syracuse win and that unlike last year it doesn't take more that 2 months to get the next one in the win column.

I think for the final four, maybe even the elite 8, they ran home team feeds as well the other feeds. So in the finals for example, the national feed was on one network say TBS, then there was a UNC feed on say TNT and a Villanova feed on TruTV or something. It was their job on those other two feeds to be homers. I didn't watch on either of them very much but the couple of times I did it seemed they were being good homers. The ACC Network happens to be an ESPN property and ESPN probably negotiated replay rights for Classic so they likely got the home team feed for UNC for ACC network replays as well.

Always worth a read but I always look forward to the pictures. Loved this one of Mrs. Fun but I am disappointed that he referenced Brittany in the last recap and then deprived us of a picture. I put on my raincoat and 2 week old NY Times for nothing. :(

I see a picture. Perhaps your copy of Netscape Navigator has been h4x0r3d.

Thanks Fun. I will have computer literate nephew check it out.

ESPN is heavily invested in the ACC. They are not an objective news network - not that any news network is not unbiased. In this case there's real money involved so they are just doing what any business would do by promoting their products. The BE is not their product. It is a product of FOX.

True, but they still talk about the B1G on ESPN even though the B1G Network is a Fox property. It also has to do with considering any non football conference a mid major. And again that's also all about money.

I'm not saying they prohibit any discussion of the other conferences. They can't succeed without covering them and their tv and radio people will give credit when credit is earned. Just saying its bad business to hype them so they never will.

I'm sure it's killing them that the BE is flourishing.

I think that is more of what it is. It's easier to have the power five conferences and everybody else. I think because CBS covers the NCAA tournament they are a little more objective because everyone likes an upset now and then.

I never thought I'd be one of those alum that can disregard everything as long as we win one game each year, but beating Syracuse the last three years in a row, killing them in their own building, and breaking the collective psyche of those guys? I'll take it.

I wasn't going to say anything, but he's right, there's no pic.
The Brittany pic was supposed to be a gift to me so I'm pretty bummed.

I actually see her ass now. Maybe it was a glitch when shared.

Ahh now I do too.
But that was definitely not there earlier this week.

Very satisfying win. I've actually been much looking forward to the LawManFan analysis

Hopefully Justin Cole has started the Molloy pipeline.

Can you elaborate Andrew the Second for the uninitiated/uninformed ( me)
Thanks

There are two very talented underclassmen at Molloy that are St. John's targets. Ironically, one of them is Cole Anthony, the son of a former Knicks guard. He is a class of 2019 and in the very distant horizon. Ironic because both justin Cole and Cole Anthony share Cole.
As for a Molloy pipeline, there wasn't one when Jack Curran, who was an alum was there, and I don't expect one to start now. Over the past 40 years we may have gotten 3 or 4 outstanding players from Molloy and they have good teams almost every year.
For many kids playing basketball in Queens St. John's is just TOO CLOSE to home unfortunately.

'72 I agree with 95% of what you said. However, the TOO CLOSE to home is only part of that story. I can tell you first hand, that Jack Curran was not exactly on the SJU bandwagon even though he was an Alum. It is an old story but Curran harbored some anti Lou sentiment as he thought he was in line for SJU gig should Louie ever leave. When that didn't happen, let's just say SJU wasn't #1 on the list to funnel players. Remember that Lou (St. Ann's- precursor to Molloy) and Curran were both Stanners. I can tell you I never saw Coach Lou at Molloy in the 80's. I did see a lot of other head coaches there as Molloy had some decent recruits during that time, most notably Kenny Smith. Maybe things smoothed out later but the late Coach Curran did let's just say hold grudges.
Curran probably wast happy when Billy Clarke attended SJ, didn't play well and, as a result, didn't get much PT. Subsequently transferred to Rutgers

Lou used to put Clarke and Tom Weidock into the game with 2 minutes left in the first half and they would turn a 10 point lead into a two point lead in those two minutes. Clarke would attempt to bring the ball up court and with even token pressure would trip over the mid court line and turn it over.

Meanwhile Weidock save Looie against Rutgers in 79 when everybody fouled out or was in trouble and Weidock held his own against Bailey until the famous play 51 saved the day.

I agree that there was some problem(s) between Curran and SJU, but we did get some of his players. In no particular order:Rudy Bogad, Billy Lawrence, Hank Cluess, Kevin Cluess, Kevin Raftery, Rob Werdann and Clarke come to mind. Is there any other school that sent more players to SJU? He sure sent a number of his best to play for Frank McGuire.
Did Curran want the job after Louie and Kresse left for the Nets? The job didn't pay much back then. I know Bill O'Meara turned down the Fordham job in the seventies. It would have been interesting to see what Curran would have done at the college level.
