Staffing Change

I think it’s meaningful that Mike Rice and Scottie Lewis attended the St. John’s team’s workout yesterday.
It implies a host of possibilities—all good.
In the end, even if Mully hires Mike Rice, Scottie and others may not choose SJU over other options.
But it indicates various things, including a connection between player and AAU coach, a player’s willingness to attend a local college’s workout, a willingness to be impressed by the talent on the court, and a potential connection between the player and the HOF HC.
All good.
Let’s go Johnnies.

When did you stop beating your wife is not a strawman, it's a loaded question, plurium interrogationum. Both you master logicians are welcome.

I only quoted that portion of his post as he used the term "strawman." Thanks anyway, Cotton Watts.
Big time college sports is a nasty game. You have to look for every advantage possible. Some schools bend the rules, and many break them. I say if there is an assistant out there that can change us from being in a 5 star recruit's top 5 to tilting the odds in our favor, the move should be made. Especially if that coach can being the deciding factor on more big time recruits in the future. It's nice to be "in the mix" for Aiden, Kofi and Precious, but you can't make an across the board wager on recruiting and make a small profit on the play. It's win betting only, and missing out on the guys the staff has been courting for years will be a real indication on how far this program can go with the current staff in place.
Look what the Tiny signing did for Seton Hall.
Agree NCJohnnie, it’s dammed ‘patriotic’ to call truth out and speak up for a necessary Staff change.
That said, it’s obvious the whole Board is excited about next season!
Exciting possibilities that hopefully leads to recruiting success for St. John’s in 2019 and continuing relevancy in the BEC for years.
Let the games begin.
Thank you Chicago -
I plan to focus on the big picture, or maybe it's the small picture lol
Not what the staff is comprised of
Not about the recruit who has no interest in this SJU "losing" "ugly campus" "outside-the-blue bloods" school.
Not about the clear disappointments we have all shared.
Hence I am excited to think about Ponds, Simon, Clark et al. and the talented newcomers possibly including one MH.
We can have a very nice year!
Red Storm, yes!!!
all the best.

Why should he even be an advisor?
Gene Keady he IS NOT!
In what capacity was MR employed since retiring from playing?
Did it qualify him to "advise" a rookie coach?
Hopefully he is serving a purpose in the area of player development but I barely hear a peep about that from players.
He does look impressive on the bench with Mullin and perhaps that's the objective.;)
There are different roles the "Special Advisor" can play. It does not have to be as a direct advisor of strategy to the head coach. Many of us have pointed out that if Mitch can do one thing, and we're not sure he can, but if he can you would have to assume it is skills development. "Special Advisor" position is allowed to do one on one development. The position can't recruit or run full team practices, but I don't think Mitch is doing that anyway.

There are a few fans here that know better than most about his contributions like Panther but his limited off season work is mostly not related to St. John's basketball or recruiting it appears. It's a shame because he is an imposing presence in person and could be a very valuable asset imo.

We have added some very talented new Players in the off season to go with the Red Shirts of last Season , Dixon and Keita . Plus Figueroa and hopefully, Heron . Ponds , Clark and Simon are now Veterans and are poised for a big season . Also appears there are reasonably good HS recruits interested in coming here in 2019 . As to whether the credit should go to anyone on the Staff for Recruiting these Players, it’s immaterial . It’s a St John’s effort , not a individual one . Like some here , I am still happy about our Victory last season over the National Champions, Villanova Wildcats ! It was a great win . And, beating Duke at MSG is always a historic Win . Optimism should be evident as this new Season draws near . Some actually feel that way , although many don’t . Unfortunate .

MR ( same initials hey?) and others
The best answer - one I accept - whether I like it or not - is that Chris Mullin hired and retains Mitch and that is good enough for me. I’m not stressing over what Mitch does or does not - for me the overriding positive is the JC kid, the Louisiana kid, the red shirts and of course Ponds, Clarke, Simon, Trimble...
The Scales to me - tip in favor of a good 2018-19 year, Ws and excitement.
All the best

Congratulations to retired Australian basketball player Ben Pepper on starting his coaching career off here. Looking forward to another rookie coach.

Well if true, there's our grad big!
Just root crazy.
Let's go Johnnies.

Are we feasting on two-minute instant rice... or do we have to wait for a full 16 to 18 minutes for our delicious meal to cook?
