It won’t be since the guy recently extended his current deal, but I’d luv the new AC to be Tim Cluess.
I'm not sure ego is the right word, since I've never gotten the impression that he's full of himself, but he definitely wouldn't take a back seat to anyone. If he's ever here, it's as the head guy.

Save it in case “something definitive” never happens. Won’t be first time. :)

If we are going to throw out names of former coaches who are current ESPN commentators, who will never be assistants here, I nominate Jeff VanGundy. At least with that hire, this team will play phenomenal defense.

Find it odd that names like Jackson and Cluess are being mentioned as potential ACs, when just a few short years ago, they were being mentioned as potential HCs. Have a feeling that after Ron Linfonte's retires, their names might come up again as potential replacements for his job.

Is Brian Nash, your avatar, your guess?

You deserve the Karma for just posting a "possible" change may happen but more importantly for doing all the research on this forum. ;)

The guitarist from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Two tribes go to War. Good choice.

This place is funny. People still are mad at Fran for doing half of what Rice did but now for reasons that totally escape me Rice is being thought of as some kind of cure all so all is forgiven and forgotten. Look I don't care if they hire him but they won't. Just think it is pretty funny that people are getting all worked up because school won't hire someone no one is hiring.
Hey hire Fran he was a good coach and good recruiter. In fact put me down for that!
When UConn or some other rival picks him up, just remember the fans who begged for him to come. He is a good recruiter and his players love him. He also happens to be in NJ which is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country right now. It makes too much sense. People do stupid things, you have to give them a chance to live it down. Obviously if the players are not afraid of him and speak highly of him he has changed for the better. He didn't kill anyone, he threw basketballs at players and cursed them out. Stupid, yes but unforgivable? Far from it.
Seriously doubt Danny Hurley will add him to his staff.

As far as I'm concerned, Rice is on his best behavior because he was a lunatic who destroyed his career by being a violent madman to his players. Just about any one of them would have kicked his ass all over the gym if they didn't know that he was holding their futures in his hands. Any coach, at any level, who would do that to kids deserves never to be around them again.

There is a lunatic who coached at St. John the Baptist HS in West Islip, Ted Oberg. I was around him for 2 seasons. He is certifiably crazy, and when he would snap would bellow at refs till he got tossed, and at 6'7 or so was a bully and an imposing figure. He also poached girls from public schools and eventually won some state federation titles. He knows basketball for certain, but as long as he is coaching is a powder keg. He eventually got fired for an incident where he stormed onto the court after receiving a technical and made contact with a referee. The school had enough and he was fired. When he is calm, he is normal,

With Rice it wasn't that he lost his temper once, and that was it. He had a pattern of doing this, not in public like the crazy Oberg, but in the confines of private practices. So he knew enough to control himself in games. Now trying to rebuild his rep, he controls himself in the lower pressure AAU circuit.

You want a qualified assistant, advocate for one. Rice should not be the guy. There are others to choose from, and if he is on the scrap heap it's his own doing.
My daughter was on Oberg’s last team at St. John the Baptist.

This would be a real nice hire for us.

redken if you don't like Jackson or Cluess as the new assistant coach how about if we dip back into Kentucky where we got Slice and bring in John Calipari as an assistant. Oh and forget Jackson and Cluess as replacements for Ron Linfonte as head trainor because we have already lined up Jerome Adams (current Surgeon General of the United States).

I was originally going to rotate a bunch of guys until I got it right, but he seemed like he fit the profile of who we'd want and who might want the job, so I left it.

He seems to burn out, though, and he has what appears to be a lower-stress gig now. Are there unsigned centers at IMG Academy?

It’s not like being a St. John’s men’s hoop coach is high stress...

Iona has hired its new assistant. The @IonaGaelsMBB hired Tra Arnold, who was head coach of Odessa College, which is where recent commit Jahnathan Maxwell played last season.

Odessa went 28-5 last season and earned an invitation to the NJCAA tourney.

Don't know about Jerome Adams. I've heard Ronny Jackson is at the top of the AD's list.
If it turned out to be Mark Jackson, I would turn out to be an ex-fan of the program. Jackson is an obnoxious jerk.

I'm not sure Rice could have delivered his players here anyway, so when viewed through that lens, there are plenty of other candidates for the job. Hell, there are probably small-conference head coaches who would jump at the chance for the gig if we keep paying what we've been paying.
Why do you have Russell Crowe's face as your avatar?

No thanks. I suspected he had an agenda with all of his recent supportive tweets. He was a great Johnny, but we need a proven assistant with some coaching and recruiting chops.

It would have to be a 30-year-old photo of Crowe for his face to be that small.

Define "recent," because he's been campaigning for a job for years. I would love to see some former guys with coaching experience return, so hopefully he -- along with my other favorites -- gets a gig somewhere else for a few years.
