I was browsing, re-reading the book "Grit" by Angela Duckworth and saw a comment I entered - after there was a discussion about Psychologist Anders Ericsson the expert on how people become experts & he used the ten thousand hour or ten year rule - the time of quality practice it takes to master something to become an expert - I wrote Chris Mullin and all the hours he spent in the gym shooting hoops. Well it just dawned upon me Chris will need more time as HC and he already, fortunately, has gained 3 difficult years of experience. Hope it does not take him 10 years total as HC lol
progress, patience

Said he was looking at a couple of bigs, so how would I know the outcome? I also stated rumors were they were going to change staff, but waiting on validation. So, I patiently wait word on both.

This Board is with you, Windy City.
Only the great Paultzman stands above the fray!

Great perspective General. Very tough guidelines to master in the zero sum sports world. Most fans demand more than ‘progress’, they demand ‘winning’ now.
I think St. John’s fans have been waiting ‘in the wilderness’ for 20+ years for a consistently winning program.
Here’s hoping that arrives very soon.

There are a lot of guys who can transfer but may have not made their intentions known yet. It sucks as fans to have to wait, but there may actually be a lot of cloak and dagger maneuvers going on. It could drag on another few weeks at least.

Guess that’s what makes him our ‘Mystery Big’...! We have a ‘Mystery AC’ in the making too! How lucky is that?!?
Understood regarding the transfer market, but what about the new AC? Every week this drags out is another week of missed opportunity.
What missed opportunity?

I thought there was new hope for PA but see a lot of transfer and Asst. Coach talk. Don't we have better threads for those posts? Just saying.

Wish Mullin had more experience before playing Broadway, but the show must go on with what we've got until..........

The missed opportunity of having whoever this rumored hire is going to be at recruiting events building relationships and touting our program. We are flush in the middle of player evaluation period. We haven't had a single recruit closed on by anyone other than Matt in 3 years.

Also, if i could figure out how to find a topic by search term i'd gladly file in a more appropriate thread. Help please. :)

Windy City, I think you are looking for the topic Staff Change which was right under this one a few minutes ago.

Ironic: we have enough coaches but not enough coaches where they should be!
Ah, life as a Johnnies fan.

You are setting yourself up for major disappointment if you think any post that appears in this thread from here on out has anything to do with new hope for PA.

Recruiting events after this weekend do not pick up again until July. They have adequate staff attending this week, but feel free to panic away. Having Matt as only recruiter is senseless,as noted ad nausium, but Mullin will decide if/when to address that, not any of us. It is what is & there’s not much we can do to expedite anything.

Chicago, Knight
We all agree losing stinks. And we love our Red Storm. And we keep as optimistic attitude as we can.
Now, as I’ve posted before,
at my age repeating oneself is part of the package lol,
This (what we have NOW and
what we are NOW)
is the best available so let’s ride it out and let the progress - incremental as it is - continue!!!
And as to a possible quantum leap in progress - start your engines and
Let the bigger time progress begin!!!
lol

SS&G,

The balance and reasoning when combined with the positive spirit you bring to Redmen.com are all reasons that I always look forward to reading your posts.

After 25 years of this program trying to find its former perch among the better programs in college basketball, we all understand how it's easy to become frustrated and negative and impatient.

I agree 100% with your post, and prudent or not, the ony thing we can all do is to be patient and hope this works out. For methe signs are there, for others not. But thanks for your posts - all of them.
