I want to be that pipeline for Baltimore players to St. John’s connection #SJUBB

No thanks. I suspected he had an agenda with all of his recent supportive tweets. He was a great Johnny, but we need a proven assistant with some coaching and recruiting chops.
Define "recent," because he's been campaigning for a job for years. I would love to see some former guys with coaching experience return, so hopefully he -- along with my other favorites -- gets a gig somewhere else for a few years.
Would love to see a former player as a DOBO. Nolan Smith holds a DOBO spot for Duke and Sean May does the same for UNC.

An easy staff fix would be dump Mitch, bump Matic to an asst spot (which he held at South Alabama) and bring in a former player at DOBO.

I wouldn't mind seeing a former SJU Player in an administrative role either, part of Mullin's success hopefully will be to build a coaching tree. But you need to be successful first then you can have former players as Assistant's, see Jim Boeheim and Mike K.

However Matic taking Mitch's spot is probably not much of an immediate upgrade on the recruiting trail at this point. They need to think a little bigger in the near future.

It’s not the best solution but easy and gets another recruiter on the road.

I'm a little confused about what people mean by "gets another recruiter on the road." Mitch is a full time assistant, is there an NCAA rule that prevents him from being on the road???

I understand the criticism of the staff but be clear here SJU is not being handicapped, they have 3 assistants who are eligible to recruit.

I appreciate everyone's opinion and love Marcus Hatten, but if the staff change involves adding a former player with no coaching experience, I am done.

Billy Singleton was DOBO with Norm Roberts.

Rich is eligible to be on the road but it doesn’t sound like he is very often. I’d bet a younger Matic would rack up the flyer miles.

My question is, assuming this rumor is true that we are bringing someone new in, why does it take so damn long? We needed this person a month ago. If person has been identified, get it done. Seems like everything we do takes 5x as long as everyone else.

My point is less about being on the road, anybody can buy a plane ticket and be on the road, but SJU could use someone who has some connections and has developed and knows how to develop relationships with schools and AAU teams. That is missing here and Matic with all due respect doesn't solve those issues anymore than Mitch does.

Thinking CM has been wavering/resisting this hire and has just decided it’s a ‘go’. Maybe contract haggling or CM is still ‘reluctant’. Who knows.

Given the disaster that Slice's proved to be, you can bet there'll be a lot of contract haggling with any AC coming on. Fool me once ... Fool me twice ...

But let me be clear because I'm not Paultz with info but Rice will NEVER replace Richmond. Rice is friends with Matt so that will NEVER happen. Does Rice replace St Jean ?I dont see it happen but I dont know but I can guarantee it's not for Richmond
