St. John's Big 12 rumor/Pitino & Prime

A four loss team with anyone coaching, lol. "Anyone" would not have gotten the players Coach Sanders has gotten. A large party of coaching is the talent you recruit. The problem some have with Coach Sanders is that they don't feel he has paid his dues. Coaches realize that in recruiting, he will be a formidable opponent.

Also, you can't disregard the part that RACE plays in it. Coach Sanders is a brash, in your face Black mam with an outsized personality. Some were happy to see him get his comeuppance today, put him in his place.
You completely misunderstood my first point. I’m saying even the best coach in the world probably wouldn’t escape the season with less than 4 losses with this roster. They don’t have the lines on either side of the ball.

I’m a Deion guy…always have been. The second he took the job I was looking over the Jackson State roster to see if had a legit shot to win right away with his guys moving over. I want him to win a championship and I think he wins 10+ games within the next few years.

But I also like the Conor McGregors and Floyd Mayweathers. To reduce it to race is ridiculous IMO. There are a ton of reasons to dislike Colorado or even Deion’s antics. The hype was also completely over the top.

Lane Kiflin is brash, loud, in your face with an outsized personality and coaches in the SEC yet doesn’t get anywhere near the same amount of distractors.

Think About It GIF by Identity
Everyone hates Lane Kiffin 😂 He is universally disliked. He’s literally the coach I hate most in all of football. He doesn’t have Deion’s celebrity so he’s not as well known by casual fans.

Not sure we will ever get there but it sure would be sweet…….and I don’t care one bit there is a Black History Month although I see the point; I am referring to Morgan Freeman’s last point about “defining people” by the way they look………

I sports hated Sanders because of the teams he played for, in particular: Dallas, SF, Washington in the NFL, and Atlanta and Yankees in MLB.

I never thought Deon would be a great coach because of the same reasons Magic and Bird did not; they were great players.

From what I have seen (and yes, there are always exceptions which we can list), most great players do not simply become great coaches. I think I read somewhere someone taking about Magic’s Lakers run as coach.

When as a player you did things on the court only one percent of your peers did, you have no patience and become easily frustrated for the level of play from “regular” pro players. You see plays that was not made that the great player would have.

As for Sanders, it will take a couple of years. He basically stripped the program bare, and brought in a new team because of culture. Sounds familiar yes, but requiring 12 spots to rebuild a basketball roster, as opposed to 80 for football is comparing a mountain to a molehill, which could not be done over one season. He knows the next place to concentrate on is the defense.

And from this old white guy’s perspective Sanders seemed pretty humble after the game. 😉😀

This thread is entitled “St. John’s to Big 12 rumor?”

pleas bring discussion back to topic, or start discussion regarding college football and/ or Colorado football on the “Other Sports” forum on this site.

thanks.

No one knows for sure if Sanders will be resounding success at this level. Competition is high.

Like him or not, the one thing Sanders has been able to do, is connect with his players on a level few coaches are able to. While other great ex athletes have had mediocre coaching success (Mullin too), Sanders is unique in that he's an excellent communicator and master motivator to these kids. Sound bites or not, the messages are inspiring and can see why his kids would run through walls for him and play above their abilities too.

I have no idea about his play calling ability or who he's got on his staff but thats the easy part.

As Louie said...get good players.

Sanders can do that...and so can Rick!! Lol

I apologize for misunderstanding. It is not only about race, because a lot of coaches, Black and White, don't feel that Coach Sanders paid his dues to get a Power 5 job. As logen pointed out, in an ideal world, Morgan Freeman's statement would be wonderful, but extremely naive. A little more than two weeks ago, Vikings running back Alexander Mattison fumbled during their loss to the Eagles. Fans came after him on Twitter, which would have been ok if they just addressed his performance. However, many called him a N----r as they addressed his performance. He was racially abused for a fumble, smh.

I also think Sanders will outgrow Colorado and move to a bigger program in SEC. His personality recruiting kids in that hotbed of talent would be wild.

I Blame Yormark

I blame Deion

I blame the slow off hoops time of the year

I Blame Pitino for locking up stellar early recruiting

I blame posters here who made valid points comparing Deion and Pitino in how quickly a program can get excitement back

I also blame McDonald for not having the McRib on the menu full time and same thing with the Shamrock Shake

Someone can start a college football thread and continue much of the discussion there. I am too lazy today to do it.

You can even talk about the glorious ending to the ND-OSU game. Although, Ryan Day is a complete and utter arsehole for his post game comments.

Easy solution in this case for anyone wanting to stick strictly to the title of the thread. Maybe we can just change title to St John’s and Big 12. That will make virtually every post on topic and people can compare Deion revitalization and Pitino revitalization relevant and on topic

Both ND and Ohio State coaches were horrible last night. Ohio St runs a sweep on a 4th and less than yard instead of just sticking it up the gut and gets stopped. Then ND only has 10 players on the field for the last play of the game. Call a timeout and get your 11th guy on the field. Even if you have no timeouts, call it anyway and let them flag you, the ball is in the one yard line so what are they gonna do move half the distance to the goal? Who cares , you need that 11th guy on defense.

My last word on the subject, just because, but as 5’9‘‘ white player, I took plenty of abuse, verbally and sometimes very physically from black players over that fact; plenty. It was a very different time, and nothing, absolutely nothing was out of bounds, including getting low bridged multiple times through the years (I could jump and easily dunk a tennis ball but could not come close to palming a basketball). It was always about seeing if I could be intimidated mentally or physically because I was a white player, nothing more or less and as hard as it was sometimes, and it was, of course, understanding it was not at all personal, it was about competing and trying to get whatever advantage one could.
I don’t look at Freeman’s statement as naive at all, I would respectfully suggest that people would be much better off considering the source of the example you gave and understand that completely ignoring them takes away any power that type of sick talk may generate.

This thread hasn’t been about St. John’s since 1st page or 2. Mods should change title of thread to football conference realignment

Colorado is trash and will be further exposed next week by USC. The media pumped them up because of Prime. Nothing more or less.

Wanna see a team that is reloading, and inching back to real national prominence, watch the University of Miami. Don't waste your time with prime. "Super Mario" is a far better coach and program builder.

Kran, you were too kind to Ryan Day . He’s worse than that .

His team barely Won the game playing 11 guys against 10 on the final 2 plays . He should be a bit more gracious in winning a hotly contested game .

A big A for awful Coaching on the part of ND staff on the last drive by the Buckeyes but , especially the last 2 plays .

Freeman should learn that playing the Prevent defense prevents Winning .

And , after ND took the lead they screwed up the crucial play calling by thinking Hartman could run a QB sneak for a first down . They under used Estime all game .

Back to BB , RP won’t lose games having only 4 players on the Court .

That's Alred Folden for you, big time jabroni. Leaves more than a lot to be desired as a football coach.
