St. John's Big 12 rumor/Pitino & Prime

As far as the media is concerned, Pitino and Sanders are both huge names trying to revive dead programs with new rosters. That's the story and they're pushing it to obtain clicks/ad revenue and TV ratings. There's obviously no comparison whatsoever in terms of their coaching careers at this point.

Tennessee was favored by 35, so of course UConn lost by 56. UConn only has 3 games remaining- @ #21 James Madison, vs. FCS Sacred Heart, and @ UMass. They'll almost certainly go L, W, and then UMass will be a coin flip, but if they want to keep this season from being a total failure then they'd need to upset #21 James Madison this weekend (they won't).
I could actually see Uconn winning that game at #21 James Madison. I really hope they don’t as that could be see seen as season-redeeming win when taken together with two likely wins to end the year against UMass and former St. John’s football league member, Sacred Heart.

Tell that to Kansas state. Florida Atlantic and Miami.

The only comparison that is real is both pitino and sanders re made a roster.

Pitino is a hall of fame coach with an amazing track record.
To be fair that doesn't mean it isn't hard.

But also to be fair, Colorado has a lot of garbage players who should be in P5 football. Our guys are all legitimate BE quality players with maybe one exception.

I think it used to be hard. But with the amount of transfers allowed recently its much easier nowadays to rebuild this way for instant results. I guarantee you that all our transfers expect to do well this year especially the seniors/grad transfers who of course want to help get st johns on the right path but they are here for success this year in the tourney.

I think there's a big difference between football and hoops and generally agree with you on hoops.

It's not an easy task, but the rare teams that can get the chemistry down in one season can overwhelm opponents with the collective experience of their transfers. So far it has leveled the playing field with the blue bloods and their 5 stars who only stick around for a year or two. You're not going find many freshmen that will outplay a 5th-year kid like Marquis Nowell from Kansas State last season.

Just wanted to bump this after the hot start for Colorado and Deion that ship sank pretty fast. Bottom of the conference. Recruits backing out. Here we go
Most predictable outcome ever. Beating TCU was the worst thing that could have happened to them.

I've been in favor of Gonzaga heading to the Big East, but they've now lost 3/5 (2 wins against Mississippi Valley St and Jackson St) and their NET is below ours at #56. One of their wins is D2, so their record is only 8-4. Further, 3/4 games they've lost were by 10 points and the other by 5. None of their potential travel partners on the West Coast are having great seasons either.

Gonzaga is still obviously an excellent program, but if the Big East / Big 12 and Gonzaga couldn't reach an agreement before, then I don't see one happening anytime soon. Yormark couldn't even convince the presidents to add Gonzaga for a measly $2 million annually.

Don't get me wrong, if Gonzaga/Big East can make the numbers work then I'd still be happy for them to join, but clearly there are some major holdups. At this point I'd be very surprised if the Big East adds teams before signing the next TV contract.

Probably need St. Mary's as well to make west coast trip once a year economically viable.

The problem wouldn’t be for the east coast teams. We have by far the easiest commute of any major league. All you’d have to do is tack on Spokane to a Creighton game over a long weekend every other year.

The problem would only be for Gonzaga’s smaller head to head sports…and even they could double up games easily.

Gonzaga is going to be in trouble when Few retires, it's hard enough for Duke and Villanova to stay on top

You may be too young to remember but Gonzaga was very good before Mark Few took over and raised them to a higher level.
Gonzaga didn’t make its first NCAA tournament until 1995. They made their second tournament (and the Elite 8 in 1999). Few Took over in the 1999-2000 season after 10 years as an assistant there.

Monson was only there for two seasons and has a losing record as a coach in his career. It looks like he was just in the right place at the right time for those two years as he inherited a very talented and experienced roster with no freshmen of his own.

Few deserves the lion’s share of the credit there. Without him they could have easily just been a St. Peter’s or Loyola Chicago.

Gonzaga losing Few down the line is a fear I’d have if they joined the conference…which is why I’d like to see it happen sooner than later.

I think name-brand coaches will apply for the job when Few actually hangs it up. There are schools that can and do pay more, but really, is a place like Clemson an actual better job? How often do you really make the tournament if you are coaching there?

That said, I have no clue what their NIL looks like. I know Timme made a lot. Maybe the program folds and dies after Few, but I hope not.

I think if the Zags are in the Big East or Big 12, they'll get plenty of good coaches applying for that job. But in the WCC, unless their NIL is legit outside of Few (like you say), there's certainly some risk of regression. Plus, its a tough job to take replacing the legend.
