South Carolina Game

The best passing thus far; unselfish performance. Garrett did exactly what he did at Findlay Prep, chippies underneath. Jones has gone from starter to last one in; hopefully he doesn't get discouraged. Should motivate him.

He doesn't belong on the court. Tough to give a kid that doesn't even move when a shot goes up minutes over kids like Balamou, Garrett, and Pointer who go after everything as soon as the ball leaves the hand of the shooter. 6/7 games without an offensive rebound while Garrett triples Jones' season offensive rebound output in one game with under 30 minutes of action.

Balamou continues to impress. It's tough to believe he is just a freshman when he plays with such poise. He doesn't rush things at all.

Hopefully Bourgault uses this game to get things started. We could really use the extra dimension he offers. 5-2 against a pretty solid schedule!

One negative I'll take from tonight is Jones was not moving AT ALL. If he didn't have the ball he was a statue. That wasn't fun to see. His minutes are disappearing and will vanish if Sanchez gets cleared. He needs to move and do things to impress.

When I heard the ESPN commentators saying that Sanchez is regarded by many as the best player on our team and how he is NBA material it really makes me drool over his potential. If we get him, D'Lo can have an awful night and we can still win games. I really hope he comes to us by Big East play. At this point Branch doesn't need to be a savior he just needs to be decent IMO. Sanchez is really this missing link to this team. A true inside presence that can snag rebounds. He would drag double teams with him and give D'Lo and Marco wide open 3's. It will really be a shame if we can't get him cleared. I will always wonder what could have been. He is the difference between us being a bubble team and us being ranked IMO.

He never moves..it's crazy. He just stands there when a shot goes up. Watch on the offensive end when Amir or Kar are on the court with him. Those two will hit the glass from 20 feet out the second the ball leaves the hand of the shooter, and a lot of times they will fly right by Jones on their way. I actually fear for Garrett's safety out there. He's always being thrown, tripped, elbowed, or clotheslined to the floor when he crashes to the glass on the offensive end.

This team will live and die on blocked shots, rebounds, steals, deflections, and loose balls. We can't afford to have a kid like that on the court.

Wow, you are really down on Jones. I loved him against Detroit. Also Lavin loved him. I noticed Lavin giving him the high five while coming back to the bench. I believe Lavin has not lost faith.

Things to take away from this game:

1). Offense spacing, cuts, picks and everything in between was all around better. We ran our offense with energy, spread them out, reversed the ball and were able to manipulate at will. We created shots for aloof our players and it was great to see. A few more shots and its a 100 point game

2) both individual defense and team defense were a ton better and sustained the entire game. We really hawked them. Improved here a lot as well. We played man and several zones including a zone trap. All looked good because we executed.

3). Team shooting overall is very good thus far to season. We make a ton of midrange jumpers. That is a rare thing for such a young team.

4) rebounding is still a work in progress, but is steadily improving. We're getting tougher and fighting for position better. I really feel like we are hurt a bit here by the lack of our 6'9" PF Sanchez and the regression of Christian Jones.

5). There are no dogs on this team. Everybody can play. Amir can have a quiet game or two and then double-double an SEC opponent. Felix is emerging and looking great. Sometimes we all forget how young this team is and how great the learning curve is still ahead. Team's down the stretch will be hard pressed to beat us with the amount off talented depth we have. I know Jones hasn't played all that well lately, but I'm hoping sooner or later the staff is able to get through and his light bulb comes on. He has the skills, just not putting it together yet.

Overall our best 40 minute effort yet. We executed well both on offense and defense and really make some big strides forward as a team today. I really hope we can get Sanchez cleared and am excited to add another dimension in Branch. This team has tremendous potential to make a run this season if we get ALL of our pieces on the court.

It says something about him but it says more about the collection of talent coming together right now..

In 113 minutes, Jones has TWO offensive rebounds. He is average a rebound every eight minutes.

Balamou has five in 76

We have to develop plays to post up Borgault. You can tell that he has the stroke.

Post up? You mean spot up? He basically hangs around the perimeter, and waits for his teammates to find him. Unless he can shoot like Mullin, and prove it to his teammates, he will get lost. He also has to work harder without the ball. He seems to shoot a little flat to be a dead eye shooter. I was a little disappointed that after nailing 2 straight 3 pointers, when it turned to total garbage time, he still launched a couple of shots (one from around 27 feet) that a cooler kid would have given up to let a deep bench player shoot.

With all Marco has been thru he had the green light and I'm fine with that. Now if we can create looks for him.

I am pretty sure he had the green light to shoot, but there are two things that come to mind, in comparing the brief minutes he has played to the best shooter in our history, HOFer Mullin. Of course, this is a ridiculous comparison, but the observations hold true.

Marco does not appear to be a great athlete (like Mullin). He does attack the boards to his credit, but he must do more than patrol the perimeter and stand around and watch the action. Mullin was in constant motion, and once he got to the pros (a bigger and faster game), became a superbly conditioned athlete, which he needed to be to be as quick as he possibly could be and be in constant motion to get open. (Mullin was constantly among the NBA leaders in steals, and off the top of my head I think he averaged about 1/2 a blocked shot per game). Marco, in his brief minutes, does not work hard enough to find his spots. His teammates, who are starting to penetrate and dish, aren't really looking for Marco at this point.

If any of you remember Mullins first couple of seasons with the Warriors, with teammates like Joe Barry Carroll and Sleepy Floyd, Mullin would be open on the perimeter - a virtual layup for him - and they would totally ignore him. Of course, once they cleaned house, and he proved to his new teammates that he was a deadeye shooter, everything began to work out for him.

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Lavs to engage Mullin to work with Marco.

HE'S the deep bench player right now. he gets open and ignored by anyone with the ball. those last two bricks were obviously taken out of frustration. this should change with a pass first point guard in branch.

Borgault seems to be very much a matchup dependent play. Against a team like Syracuse we'd obviously like to have him as a zone buster. But in a game of this type, where our athleticism and running offense is a major factor he was more of a detriment on the court. In the first half when he came on the court our offense started to become stagnant. I think this also coincided with SC using a half-court press, but Borgault just does not appear to have the ability to play along with a quick paced system.

On Jones and Balamou, I'm along with some others who had maintained that Jones would end up as more of a contributor than Felix. That is certainly not looking like it will happen right now. But I'll eat the crow if Felix plays like this all season long.

Not only Mullin, but even guys like jj reddick and Heslip were/are constantly sprinting to screens and in constant motion. Bourgault is not a bad athlete. He's a capable enough ball handler and passer. His stroke looks really good, but he's going to need to do more to earn his shots at this level. It means always moving to find an open shot. He also needs to speed up his release just a tad. His stroke otherwise looks great. I think he will be valuable once he gets up to speed. I'm glad he had the green light yesterday. Only way a shooter finds his rhythm is to get on the court and shoot.

I thought the student section was awesome but I would prefer if they did not chant you suck when SC missed a foul shot. Maybe I am a wimp....

"...I give credit to my teammates,” Harrison said. “I made a couple of shots but I had so many easy layups and got to the free throw line. It wasn't me in a hot streak. It was me cutting and they found me and I made the layup. Anybody could have had 26 today....”

Really? What do you expect the fans to chant, "Good game SC! We wish you luck!"? Give the student section a break. I'd much rather them involved in the game chanting you suck than sitting submissively in silence.

Agree with you guys on Marco but lets put a lot of this on the staff should be conditioning him and make sureor him he moves to get his shots Have to tell you when he is in his teams mates are not looking for him If the staff can not get him to work on his abilties in a games where we are up a bunch then when We are still getting to shooters way to late If SC was hitting its 3s would have been a different game
