Curious if anyone's heard if Alvarado has also received word where he might be drafted like the Twins have?

Alvarodo left Atlanta this morning to spend the next month training in Arizona. At this point he is focused on showing NBA teams that he deserves to be drafted. His goal at the present time, is to play in the League, not overseas or in college.

This seems like a pipe dream.

JA to STJ, JA getting drafted, or both?

Milwaukee transfer Te'Jon Lucas will be conducting a zoom with New Mexico State today and BYU on Wednesday he tells @247Sports.

Finalists for Te’Jon Lucas who SJU had contacted

BYU
Utah
Nevada
DePaul
New Mexico State

Sense staff will obviously keep looking for quality combo guard and won’t reach for a kid. In next month it should be clearer what Alvarado will do professionally or otherwise. Who knows what occurs there, but it seems clear staff has not put all eggs in one basket. As noted, graduations this month should spawn opportunities to improve roster in combo guard area.

Thanks Paultz, have you been able to ascertain whether or not the staff has a backup plan in the case of Champ leaving? We would then need to bring in a combo guard and another combo forward type player.

Have not seen any attempts for a plan B for Julian. The common read is pursuit of a combo guard is primary target.

Have not seen any attempts for a plan B for Julian, but staff operates very under radar. The common read is pursuit of a combo guard is primary target.

Think staff has done a great job of already covering the basis if Champ leaves, Wheeler has the skills to take Julian's spot if he leaves, just needs the right circumstances. Mathis, Smith, and Wusu are also guys that will get big minutes and fill the void, getting Alvarado would also certainly fill the void.

I could be very wrong Billy , but if Alvarado enters the portal I don’t think he chooses to attend St. John’s if Julian doesn’t come back. Just my opinion and like I said, I could definitely be wrong

Zagoria article yesterday about the Pitt/SJU game stated that his source says Julian is expected back. We will see

Seems logical to assume that difference maker type combo guard transfers might want to know Julian is coming back before picking Johnnies if winning program is important factor in  their decision.

Wheeler filling Julian's shoes should he leave? I don't think so.
It's college, so talented kids are always going to have to be replaced somehow -- and not always successfully. Staff just has to put Wheeler in the best position to average 10+ ppg, and everyone else will have to pick up the slack.

Hopefully local tweeners and their coaches and family see how Julian improved and credit a good portion of that to the staff.

Doubt you're wrong. If he's coming back for a fifth year that he doesn't really need, it's to win big and showcase himself for crack at NBA. He'd be coming because he thinks Posh, Julian, and Soriano are a solid core that he could possibly put way over the top.
