SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

I am one who is sorry to see Cole leave. I know he has his detractors and fully get his deficiencies when it comes to strength and handle, but he has a wonderful shooting touch when he is relaxed and did show the ability to hit big time shots in more than one game; also looked like he could become a decent rebounder with some added muscle. I thought with an offseason of strength training and coaching he could be a valuable rotation guy. Having said that, he's made his decision, so wish him well. Will be interested to see where he winds up and as with other former Johnnies will keep tabs on his progress.
In that regard our old friend Mikey Dixon is getting to play in the dance for Grand Canyon (against Iowa) this year.

not like we can do anything about this except speculate and worry.... but if this one time free transfer rule has no end date, meaning that a player can transfer to a school in September and be eligible for tip off late October.... i can definitely see those big time schools- Kansas / Duke / Kentucky etc convince some studs to step up to the big leagues, depending if their off-season acquisitions went as planned.

BTW- does anyone know if this one-time free transfer is now the norm? Going forward, does a player always have one free no-sitout transfer in their pocket? or is it just this year?

Cole didn't shoot  nearly as well as expected. He hit some big shots and had some streaks where he couldn't miss. But overall he was less then 40% FG's and mid 30's on 3's (if I remember correctly)

Not trying to knock him at all. I appreciate the year he gave us but I look at this as a great opportunity to get a guard who can push the ball, defend the dribble better and shoot at a higher percentage. Guys are out there. More will follow into the portal. With 3 guys (as of now) graduating next year we have playing time available so it doesn't have to be a grad transfer

Cole was kinda a hybrid between Avery Patterson and Fred Lyson.
Patterson with his streaky shooting and Lyson with his athleticism.
I was kind of shocked he was still getting major minutes late in the year when it was clear Earlington and Wusu were far better all-around players.
But the team was, mostly, winning so why break it.
Best of luck. May want to go down a level.

I think expections really need to be tempered with this coaching staff. I can almost guarantee you we won't land any one of these flashy names everyone is talking about.

We will probably land some under the radar player no one is talking about or a JUCO player. Whoever it is will probably be decent contributor, because Anderson knows how to get the most out of players he targets, for the most part, but I don't think we will be landing anyone too highly rated.

If you're actually thinking we will you're setting yourself up for disappointment. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I've come to accept the fact that this coaching staff is going to land a few 3 star/JUCO players sprinkled in with a rare 4 star player every now and then, and develop them into a respectable team.
We should start speaking in absolutes, huh?

He didn't play with the same level of confidence once he went into a shooting funk.  Although, he had a handful of good games (particularly, the second Georgetown game, and the first DePaul and Villanova games, respectively) between his funk.

Did Patterson or Lyson ever dribbled the ball?

Good luck to Vince; must say I expected more from him offensively.  I don't know if it was a confidence thing or the style of play or a step too slow.  I sense he was not the typical player on the defensive side of the ball that fits CMA's system.  Of our top 8 players, Vince and Isaiah were 7/8 in steals.

As to transfers in, I would expect the better players might shy away given Julian and Posh as they might want to be "Top Dog".  With incoming frosh to replace some of the 18PPG of Vince/Isaiah, would be nice to get some one who give us 10/12 PPG.  And of course a basket protector/rebounder as we say every year.

If they did, it was probably with the same effectiveness as Cole.

Cole to me was sort of a one dimensional player.   If a wide open shot from him is not money in the bank, which it was not, his roster spot can be filled with a better all around player.   Based on limited exposure of one season, this may not be the right level for him to excel.

As a wise poster said earlier in the year, Cole was a one trick pony and he wasn't very good at his trick.

With all these quality players entering the transfer portal, I trust that CMA and staff will land the type of players we need. Yes , the blue bloods will pounce but they only have 13 scholarships just like everyone else, plus most of them have  already signed top 100 freshman. There will be quality kids looking for schools with playing time which we have.

If we land Igiheon, it it might be the biggest contribution Slice made in his short time, as he was working him aggressively.

Slice was here when Aiden would have been a freshmen in high school. I thought it was a Matt/Mullin guy.

TJ just followed Aiden Igiehon on Twitter

good sign!

Am I missing something here about him?  I'm seeing people on twitter and on here excited about him.  He barely played for Louisville in 2 years, and was seeing that he's been injured a lot.  How is he an upgrade over Josh Roberts?

I recall Aiden being one of the few recruits besides Ponds Mullin really seemed to show real interest in recruiting.
