TJ just followed Aiden Igiehon on Twitter

good sign!

Am I missing something here about him?  I'm seeing people on twitter and on here excited about him.  He barely played for Louisville in 2 years, and was seeing that he's been injured a lot.  How is he an upgrade over Josh Roberts?

Requisite size for starters.

You're correct that Igehon has under-performed in college, but he was a Top 30 recruit and the thinking is, he'll revive his career  returning 'home' to where he starred in H.S. and under CMA's tutelage.

I remember watching his highlights  bc I thought we had a real shot w him 2 years ago. He was built like a brick house. He played against people he was bigger than. Just dominated them physically. He was good around the rim. He was beginning to develop a jump shot. He was comfortable playing out of the post.

I was surprised he was out of shape. I think he turned the staff off as a freshman and couldn't get healthy to prove himself as a sophomore. Louisville will recruit over u. Which happened to him. I also remember Louisville swooping in late and grabbing him

one thing I will note is he needed some work rebounding. Positioning etc.

10000% you take him in a second. He's an Anderson guy. Strong physical and a finisher. Guys get better under Coach. I expect the same if we land him. Guarantee he's getting good feedback from his Lightning guys on SJU.

Definitely looks like Iggy was overrated in relation to his ranking, but I can't imagine any scenario where he doesn't give more than Roberts. He definitely would be harder to push around. That's assuming he's healthy and would give maximum effort, though. (Not sure how big an assumption that is right now.)

I’m concerned as well, but the positive side is that he doesn’t seem to have lingering injuries and this past year he was out for an extended amount of time for Mono.  Also concerned about his motor and work ethic as I’d like guy who’s a bit more natural of a bball player.  Agree he’s a bit raw ala Roberts and that’s not particularly what I wanted to see us go after.

On the positive side, he’s an athletic physical specimen and is bigger and stronger than Robert’s.  If cma gets his hands on the raw materials maybe he could certainly be something special If totally healthy. I’d rather a more savy-type player underneath though and I’m not sure Igheon is that. Just my two cents.

If we land Igiheon, it it might be the biggest contribution Slice made in his short time, as he was working him aggressively.

Slice was here when Aiden would have been a freshmen in high school. I thought it was a Matt/Mullin guy.

Correct

Slice at beginning

Slice was chasing big names while he was here. Too big, actually. Probably paraphrasing, but I distinctly remember a poster here saying the recruiting that Slice was doing was better suited for a program that had already rebuilt and was trending upward.

I think Cole would have been better and more efficient on offense if he came back. I understand why people probably doubt this but I don't think he was just a jump shooter. I think he had pretty good scoring instincts. However his negatives were pretty big. I really thought he was the worst defender on the team. Not ONE of the worst. The worst. And aside from that he's streaky. And not streaky within a game. Streaky week by week and month by month. I was looking forward to seeing how he looked now that he was more familiar with Big East play. oh well

I had a gut feeling that Moore could leave but Cole surprised me a bit. Coach showed a lot of faith in him and gave him starts and plenty of minutes. It speaks to his offensive potential that a defensive minded coach like Anderson continued to give him minutes over others despite his glaring defensive issues. I agree that he should transfer down a level. He won't find many high major coaches willing to give him 20- 25 minutes a game when his offense goes missing. As has been said multiple times the grass isn't always greener.

On Aiden I, I will trust staff’s due diligence on this.  Not mistake free, like Toro assessment perhaps, but seem to know what they are doing.

Agree Paultz, gotta trust the staff on this one.  At minimum he gives us a big, strong physical presence that can defend the post and dunk.  If he was not used to the work level under Mack though, he will certainly need to brush up on how Iron Mike pushes his players. The kid certainly has the physical tools.  I just don’t want a Taurean Thompson aka a “parked Ferrari”.

I mean anything might be better than Roberts. He might of scored a total of 25 points all season.

while he may not have traditional big man, low post moves, as long as he can rebound, not get pushed around, get easy dunks, and defend, we should definitely take him.

Igiehon is low risk, high reward. Worst case scenario he's a limited player who is stronger and bigger than more recent limited players we've had. He's certainly not skinny.

Best case scenario, they tap into his potential and get a monster who was once thought of as a top guy. He was also a local name who area kids are still familiar with. A guy going to a big name school, having a rough couple of seasons and then being a successful reclamation project back home at St John's can only further help local recruiting. He's a recent enough name that I think current local recruits would take note that Anderson continues to get the best out of players.

Now just land Igheon, Blocker and Justin Champs and let’s win the Big East! ;-)
