SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

The Oregon Ducks are going after one of the top junior college prospects in this recruiting class, and he recently announced a Top 6 schools and a decision will be coming soon. Rivaldo Soares of South Plains Junior College in Texas announced on Twitter he was down to Oregon, Oklahoma State, San Diego State, DePaul, St. John's, and Florida.

The Ducks are recruiting Soares to replace graduating senior and a former No. 1 recruit at the Junior College level Chris Duarte. Oregon offered Soares a scholarship earlier in April and was the first high-major program to go after him. This season, Soares has been the best player on the junior college team who spent most of the season ranked No. 1 nationally by the NJCAA rankings.

Tough competition, but would be nice to land this guy.

I don’t know if we should be in a rush to go after another Juco prospect.

Just because last 2 didn’t work out as well as we liked doesn’t mean anything.  Cma and additional sju have done well with jucos in the past.  He’d be a good fit but tough competition tough.

Fwiw. he’s a Roxbury Mass. kid, seems of his group of schools this is one SJU advantage re being relatively close to home if that counts with him. Oregon usually win$ these  battles though.

I agree that getting Posh and Julian back sets a level of expectation.  However, I am expecting a slow start again.  It took a while for guys like Earlington, Cole and Moore to understand and settle into their roles.  We will have a whole bunch of new guys next year that will need to do the same.   It's always frustrating when we dig an early hole, but the extreme roster shake-up is a factor.
I think the potential silver lining here is that guys like Wheeler and Mathis already have good defensive instincts.

Should we read anything into Paultzman's picture/avatar change?

Soares broke down his top six: St John’s: “Really get up and down, they play fast. Coach [Steve] DeMeo was one of the first coaches to recruit me. I like their style of play.” Florida: “Big-time atmosphere. They get you better, and they always play the right way. They have a great staff.” Oregon: “Coach [Dana] Altman and Coach Mike [Mennenga] are good people, they talk a lot about development which is big for me. And Oregon continued to be in the tournament.” Oklahoma State: “Coach Mike [Boynton] and staff have done a great job, He is a really good coach. And looking to continue their run to more NCAA Tournaments.” DePaul: “Coach [Tony] Stubblefield is trying to bring DePaul back to the top. My teammate and friend just committed there; it’s a great opportunity.” His former teammate, Philmon Gebrewhit, [URL]https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/04/29/junior-college-wing-philmon-gebrewhit-to-depaul/[/URL]]committed to DePaul Thursday.[/url] San Diego State: “Great school, and they always have pros. They want me to come in and be myself.”

Looking at his stats and the competition, this is the type of player we’re likely to pick up at this point.  Hopefully a solid contributor.  Just keep building/improving  bit by bit and recruiting should get better in the coming years.

Alvarado obviously has not yet entered portal, but chatter is Kentucky has interest. Staff is smart enough to look at quality combo transfers, recruits v depending solely on JA.

Kentucky’s top 30 recruit (PG) just reopened his recruitment.

Staff is doing what they have to do, and seem to be  in the mix with so many names which has to increase our chances to land a difference maker, but, at ths least, gives us  a good chance to add a solid guy and improve the team.
