SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

As kentucky should. Sure the shuffling of assistants won’t help us.

It's no surprise that Alvarado would garner interest from the blue bloods. I know staff is working hard, but absent the stars being totally aligned, I just don't see how we can compete.  We did manage to get Heron under the old staff, so getting a transfer of this magnitude is certainly not impossible.

I think perhaps it's best to lower expectations a bit.  With this staff, it seems likely we will get a hard working under the radar transfer who is not terribly "sexy."  For the past two years, the staff has done a very nice job building our program with these kinds of kids.  Of course, it would be awesome to get a stud like Alvarado, but I think we can still continue to build with a solid combo guard pickup provided Champagnie returns.  It's all about momentum.  At a minimum, we need to make the Dance next year.  Anything less is a failure.

"Failure" is a little harsh especially given the transfer disruption, but we would certainly want to see continued progress and competitiveness, with the tourney a realistic goal.  Any slide backward would be a red flag.

If Julian back, anything short of dancing is a big disappointment unless decimated by injuries imo. They have to take advantage of a window of opportunity we don’t experience often and build upon it.

I don't disagree, but I think until you see all the new guys, and how they meld, it is hard to say what to expect.  I expect for the progress to improve and to make the tourney, but "failure" with so much uncerainty is maybe a tad harsh.  JMO.

We were so close to the tournament last season. Regardless of the shuffling if we have Posh and Julian back not making the tournament woule be a huge disappointment. You can hold the word failure if you want.

+1 The day after last season ended I’m sure everyone’s expectations were for NCAA tourney this coming year.

I agree that getting Posh and Julian back sets a level of expectation.  However, I am expecting a slow start again.  It took a while for guys like Earlington, Cole and Moore to understand and settle into their roles.  We will have a whole bunch of new guys next year that will need to do the same.   It's always frustrating when we dig an early hole, but the extreme roster shake-up is a factor.

As it is for most teams plus we are bringing in a lot of veteran's so no more excuses for slow starts as this will probably be the case every year.

I don’t  recall the Recruiting of Alvarado back when Mullin was still Coaching .. But , we had Ponds and , at that time Lovett , who departed mid season .  Did we stand a chance getting him back than ? Just curious  .

Yes

If I remember correctly SJU was involved but his final 2 I believer were Rutgers and Georgia Tech and it was a bit of a surprise when he picked Tech as many felt he was an RU lean for awhile.

Yes

Kid looks real good.   Big, can drive, long arms and step back jumper looks solid.  Big time competition.  Would be perfect for us.
