SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

The only thing I remember about Sean Muto was his constantly wiping the bottom of his sneakers with his hands.  Nervous tic.  I am sure he was a nice kid, but not a "BE caliber" player as we so often hear.

Bring back twin towers basketball: Mourning and Mutumbo or in our case Wennington and Allen or Werdann and Scott

Did Werdann and Scott play together?  I remember Werdann and Williams with Sean Muto coming off the bench.  Muto would have been a hot commodity in today’s transfer market.

They played 1 1/2 seasons together.
Going into the much-anticipated 1991-92 season with Final Four aspirations, the starting frontline early in the season were seniors Malik Sealy, Rob Werdann and sophomore Shawnelle Scott.  Imagine: 6'8" 6' 11" 6' 10"
But then Werdann got hurt and the dream season never materialized. We tied for 1st in the BE regular season but lost first round to Tulane in NCAA.
Louie soon retired and the rest is history,

Been asked by a few people about Memphis transfer Moussa Cisse. At this point, would be a surprise to see St. John's add a forward. Complete focus is landing a combo guard. #sjubb

If we somehow land Alvarado we are going to be unstoppable this coming year.  Hard to find a better 1-3 of Posh, Alvarado and Champs not to mention the rest of our roster.  Hope this happens.

If people think Coach or anyone wouldn't if given the opportunity take a Cisse (who I honestly don't think is in play for SJU anyway) and say push out an incoming recruit then keep smoking that stuff.

Because he would and it would be malpractice if he didn't.  My God if you think at least some if not all of the 8 SJU players that entered the portal were not told by the staff that they would be better off probably finding a home somewhere else (because the intent was to bring in better talent) then again keep on keeping on...

All I am saying is don't get caught up in this, "Well we have only 2 scholarships left..."  No they don't.  They have as many as they want to open up...That is how it works.

Lucky for us the guy who would get cut in that instance is someone who's been here for months and no one has seen him play.

We have two slots anyway, so no worries on that end.

Deadine, seriously?  It is a 7 day a week, 24 hour/day, 365 days a year system....

May 2nd is the deadline to enter the transfer portal in order for fall and winter athletes who are underclassmen to be eligible to play immediately in 2021/22 fall and winter sport seasons as first time transfers.  A graduating senior (spring or summer) with eligibility left is automatically eligible if he transfers so if Alvarado is graduating, he has plenty of time to enter the portal up to when the school he intends transfers to (if he does decide to transfer) stops admitting new students for the fall semester.

Keep my man Monte's name out of yo mouth.  /media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

Besides, after Dunn he will Never Love Again.

My sympathies for your unrequited love situation but think it is best you move on with your life as I believe he is Dunn with this board. Rumor has it that he has been seen keeping the company of a Robert Morris and that it has already progressed to a quite cozy relationship. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Except that isn't all you are saying, and that isn't just "how it works".
Its one thing to tell a kid at the end of the year that they would be better suited going somewhere else because they won't get off the bench here next year.  Its an entirely different thing to take a transfer and then dump him, or to take a HS kids commitment only to dump him in MAY for a guy who has a higher ranking and who likely isn't a good fit for team chemistry.

Both of those actions damage your reputation and can have a major negative impact on recruiting the HS & AAU programs of the kid you screwed over.   For what?  One year of a prima donna who couldn't make it work at Memphi$??

You might might be willing to sell your integrity so cheaply, certainly there are many many coaches who would do so as well, but what in his 2 years here has given anyone the slightest inkling that CMA is that type of person?  That character, honor, hard work, family, commitment are just buzz words to so casually discarded once the recruit signs on the dotted line?

Lets try it this way.  Let's assume the two remaining ships are Champ returning and a combo guard.    Who are you cutting loose to bring in Cisse?

Can you provide an example of CMA pushing a committed kid out for a higher ranked kid before they've even played a minute for him?  Because I can't think of a single situation where he's ever done that before.

Also, by your logic, the staff should have pushed Champagnie out before his freshman year and took a late grad transfer that was a 4 or 5 star coming out of high school that put up subpar stats at his previous school instead of keeping unranked Champagnie that was heading to prep school because no other high majors wanted him.

You're talking about pushing out somebody for a kid that averaged 6/6 in the AAC on a mediocre Memphis team, when you have 2 scholarships remaining, it makes no sense.

Why did Cisse enter the portal so late in the game?  Unlike Alvarado, he hadn't declared for the draft.  Did he get some negative feedback from Memphis after year 1 and has been "over" recruited through Memphis transfer commits?  Is he living up to his HS projections or was his game in HS reflective of his size differential to HS players?  We already have made a commitment ot Joel and I agree with others that it would look ugly to recruit over him within 12 days of his commiting to SJU.

You've framed the 'deadline' aspect of this process well '85, but I think other factors are also in play that will likely impact the 'timing' of the various actors in this Transfer Carousel...like the fact we need 1 more solid combo guard addition probably from that spinning mess called the Portal and they're falling every which way like apples in a strong wind. I would think that May 2nd deadline for most others has to be a piece of the puzzle here.
I know nothing but I'll take a stab and say there may be some sort of understanding  between various parties of a timeframe when decisions by both have to be made.
That said, Alvarado is the guy to get imho and hoping hard he opts in.

They have 2 scholarships remaining even if Champagnie returns, if Champ stays in the draft they have 3 scholarships to work with. So hypothetically, Champ can return, they could add a combo guard like Alvarado, and add Cisse as well.  That's why it's confusing that he's talking about pushing someone out, when there's literally no need.

Good catch!  There's been so much roster turnover I'd lost count, but after writing them all down, we could keep Champ, add a combo guard, and still have one left over.   Not sure what all the hubub is over forcing someone out then.  Seems like a silly thing to bring up when you could add Cisse without creating a spot.

CMA appears to me to be of the highest ethical standards and of the highest character and integrity. There is no chance he is going to suggest a kid who just agreed to play for him move on to another school, because something better came along. He clearly doesn't operate this way, and you can say it's almost to a fault or detriment, but that's just who CMA is. I'm not upset one bit about it personally.

Georgia, Auburn, Boston College, BYU, St. Johns, and Xavier are the most recent schools to reach out to Penn State transfer guard Izaiah Brockington a source tells @247Sports. @247SportsPortal

Averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds
