SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

Just over 4 ppg and not even 2 rebounds, 41.3% from the field, and 56% from the line aren’t good numbers for a 6’5 guard especially if we are in need of a shooter.

Excerpt below from an article about Taryn Todd when he signed with TCU in 2019.

Todd was considered among the top players at the NIKE EYBL earlier this year in Atlanta. 247Sports' Travis Branham had this to say about Todd's performance:You can’t go into a live period without coaches asking about “sleepers” and coming out of the weekend, Taryn Todd gets my sleeper title not only in 2020, but also in 2019 as he has the option to reclassify. Todd has good size for the position standing 6-3 with long arms, is a very good athlete and can really create shots for himself and his teammates. Offensively, he has an impressive feel and can play either guard position but is at his best when used on the ball. He operates very well in pick and roll situations where he uses his handle and athleticism to slice through the defense. He can finish with his left hand or pick apart defenses with impressive vision and passing ability. Todd is also a capable shot creator and maker on his own and displayed that this weekend breaking down his man and knocking down step-back jumpers. Through his first four games of the Nike EYBL Circuit, he is averaging 20-points per game. Todd’s only two offers are from Kansas State and Southern Illinois.

Rooting hard we're able to get Alvarado for obvious reasons, but agree with NCJ. This kid Todd would be a nice fallback.

Here is my take and I know it may not sound nice but if SJU felt they could land Cisse and it meant they had to cut loose someone that was set to come then you know what?...so be it.

Don't get carried away with "Well SJU already has player X and player Y coming in so they don't have room...."

If you have a chance to land a player who you know makes you better as soon as he steps on the floor and is quite frankly better and more proven then what you have slated to come in then....

I imagine if Antigua stays at Illinois they will be making an offer to Cisse.

I’m not one for turning away talent and I’m sure there are situations where those 3 would work. But you’re not gonna pressure the ball full court with Soriano and Cisse as your front court plus Champ trying to guard quicker players than he’s used to, let alone in the press.

Fordham96 I’d quote you it I could from my phone but that’s a very solid post at least IMO

Lucky for us the guy who would get cut in that instance is someone who's been here for months and no one has seen him play.

We have two slots anyway, so no worries on that end.

Monte wouldn't hear of it. He loves Nyiwe. /media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

This is the big leagues.  Alabama took some kids that made their incoming JUCO star Langston Wilson decide to re-open.  So be it.  Literally happens all the time on this level.  Oats isn't Alabama to be mediocre...

Bigs in big east get in foul trouble.  Cisse would insulate the Johnnie's against that inevitability

dont need it.  Soriano, Stanley, Wheeler, Nywie.  Cma doesn’t want a bunch of centers.  We have enough to make it work.

Heard rumblings this would happen weeks ago and people were saying we would be in the mix. Don’t know where we stand now but probably a very tough get.
How can we afford Slice and Cisse :)

We have 2 open spots so that’s really not the issue. I would gladly add him and he’d make us better. I don’t think you would start him and Soriano next to each other. And those 2 are debatable as to who’s the better player.

I'm pretty sure most of the coaches in the SEC are paying kids, it's not a well kept secret, so I'm not sure if that's a good comparison bringing up what SEC coaches are doing.  It's the most crooked league in college basketball and it's not even close.

And regardless that's not CMA's style, he's not going to make a promise to a kid and their family, then as soon as a better option comes cut them loose, I've never seen him do that before.  Now, at the mid-term or after the year is done if he sees it isn't working out and they aren't making the rotation, then I'm sure he'll let the kid know there's not going to be playing time for them and let them make their own decision. But why would it even come to that?  There's still 2 scholarships available, that's enough for them to fill their remaining needs.

I'm with you MP.  CMA represents himself as a family guy.   Its about team and chemistry, not flash and player rankings.

I'd be shocked if CMA pushed someone out for Cisse at this point.   Seems contrary to his values as a person and a coach.  Its impossible to hold kids accountable when you don't live up to your word.   Can't imagine a scenario where he'd sacrifice his integrity for any player, let alone one who turned him down a year ago.

Everyone is different, but CMA doesn't seem to be the type who would throw away a perfectly good marriage/relationship for a one night stand with a super model.

Bring back twin towers basketball: Mourning and Mutumbo or in our case Wennington and Allen or Werdann and Scott

Did Werdann and Scott play together?  I remember Werdann and Williams with Sean Muto coming off the bench.  Muto would have been a hot commodity in today’s transfer market.
