Hypothetically if Alvarado transferred to St. John’s he played 37.1 minutes a game last year. It won’t be easy keeping him or Posh off the court.

I Alvarado comes here, him and Posh are our starting backcourt. Alvarado probably plays off the ball as he is the better shooter of the two. When either one is out of the game the other just handles the ball. It should work very well. If we have Posh , Alvarado and Mathis on the floor at the same time, no one will be able to match the defensive pressure that they will exert.

Add Stef and Wusu to that mix and we’d be hard to stop.

Personally I think a press with 6 9 Wheeler guarding the person trying to inbound the ball with any 2 of Posh, Alvarado and Mathis defending the players trying to receive the ball would be a fantastic combination. Wheeler is very agile and is supposed to be a very good defender. A lot of good possibilities for next season.

I'm assuming if Alvarado came Dylan and Mathis could also see good minutes at the 3. I dont really think there will be a minutes problem

I like Wusu and think he has potential to blossom into a good player should he choose to stay here for four years.  But the notion that we should be hesitant to accept a player like Alvarado because it might impact Wusu’s playing time is absurd.

Siena transfer Jalen Pickett has committed to Penn State,
They picked up the kid from Gardner-Webb the other day too. Backcourt seems pretty solid, although I guess there is a risk of things turning ugly quickly if neither of them respond well to Big Ten competition.

Joryam is a good athlete based on his highlights I saw on YouTube. Showed nice handle, nice vision. If you want to bring him on board after Alvarado I’m for it. He seems like he definitely is under the radar. Below is a snippet from a rivals article by one of their recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw: sorry if it posts multiple, not sure how to fix it.

Frankly Joryam looks very intriguing. Would not be unhappy at all if we added him as looks like he can play both guard positions.

It's apparent to me that Coach is finally bringing in players in depth to employ his 40 minutes of hell style of play.  We haven't had the athletes or depth to fully implement that style.  Add Jose to the mix and release the Kraken.

JS looks amphibious, shoots right dunks left.
I really, really hope your post got “autocorrected”
He's smooth and slippery out there -- one could even call him slimy.

And he's a cold-blooded killer on the court.

Interesting looking kid. Originally from the Netherlands.  Sounds like he may have been under recruited due to covid. Really bouncy and quick looking in his videos. Offers from Marshall, Mt St Mary and Eastern Washington. No majors.

Is Joryam the player who you bring in to redshirt, tell him that from day one, and if you get Alvarado, you already have your following year system schooled insurance policy?

I'd rather save a ship for a rainy day.
Anyone redshirting might be unhappy and head out after a year.  Rather have the flexibility.

I think with the new transfer rule, you're going to see a lot more teams save 1 or 2 scholarships, CMA plays more kids than most coaches in the country and the max he's going to play is 11, most college coaches have a rotation of 7-8 players.

In the past it's been beneficial to take on a kid or 2 that needs developing as a project, because you figured you'd at least have them a couple years to see what you can get out of them, now they are just going to leave after the first year if they sit the bench the entire year, no coach is going to want to waste their time recruiting them knowing they are just going to another program.  Coaches are just going to let walk-ons use those extra scholarships for a year.

I agree the new transfer rule upends past roster management tactics but there are always exceptions and redshirting an under-the-radar kid for his freshman year may be that wrinkle.
The kid would still be unknown to other coaches / systems  and may well have bought into CMA's system and be keen to show his skills off the next season, and JS seems to fit that scenario.

WashU (D3) grad-transfer Jack Nolan (@jnols22) has heard from Iowa, Oregon State, Stanford, Lipscomb, Drexel, Tennessee State, SIUE, New Hampshire, and Drake so far.

Stony Brook has offered.

Nolan has now also heard from Illinois, St. John’s, Furman, Hartford, Radford, Denver, Eastern Illinois, among others.

He has picked up a handful of mid-major offers so far.
