Do  not see us playing 5 guards esp with our Ht now. Basketball is a business the best players see the maj of the mins Pinzon ,
could outplay the transfers .I have high expectations for him The balance act is getting your best players to play and role players to help with contributions toward winning.it’s up to the staff to improve role players to take the place of those ahead plus keeping everyone happy. But recruiting over is an unfortunate part of the game thus transfers

Agree Pinzon will surprise many! Really nice highlights in that game against Siera Canyon!

He had a really nice game against Sierra Canyon which was probably his best game that year. He will be a nice player for us in the long run, just not as good as many are expecting in his first year nor does he need to be based on the experience already coming in (and that's not including if the pipe dream of fantasy of Alvarado joining the team comes true).

It is not uncommon for people to talk about redshirting a player (Julian was supposed to his first year but that went out the window probably before full practices started his freshman year) however things have a way of working itself out.  Do what you are supposed to on and off the court and if what you do on the court is better than others, Anderson will give you minutes.

I wouldn't worry about Coach finding minutes for players.  He is absolutely willing to go 11 deep, keep the pedal to the medal for 40 minutes, and to play small lineups.
I guess my main thought was that, with the way the transfer landscape is now, you can almost see who the lack is minutes is going to cause to want to transfer next off season.

Completely legit worry.  OTOH if the guys you're stuck behind are leaving then a player could figure he gets those minutes the next year.

I don't worry about Coach finding minutes for players. I worry -- or at least am concerned -- about players not being happy with their PT, especially after what we saw with transfers from last year's roster.

Edit: Apologies to Lawman and Room 112. For some reason I didn't see your exchange of posts on this matter, and so I ended up duplicating what was already addressed. (At least we were all in agreement.)

With our luck/history of "locks", I fully expect Alvarado to enter the portal and end up at Rutgers, Seton Hall or Nova.

The bottom line is CMA will play who he thinks will help the team win.  And, in this landscape, those that get very limit minutes will likely transfer.  You have to go into the season expecting one or two of these young guys (Wusu, Pinzon, Stanley, Traore, Nyiwe) will wind up transferring.  It's just the current nature of college basketball.

You're probably right JF, but maybe Wusu will be okay with ~20mpg and the others with cameos for '21-'22 knowing that the team likely loses 4 - 5 of its main guys after the season and their PTs will ramp up sharply beginning in '22? Plus, the buy-in to CMA might be stronger after a very successful and high-profile season.
We can hope.

I assume there would be a “tad” of an uproar here if staff passed on Alvarado if available to keep all current guards happy. :)

But at the same time it might be smart if it comes down to that

Before everybody gets too excited, is Jamie Shaw a reputable source?  Guy has close to 1,000 followers.

More than you /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Lol, I think I have two.  I actually don’t know if 1,000 followers is a lot or a little.

Depends on if you're holed up on top of a mesa waiting for the arrival of the mothership or not./media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

As expected, solid programs are on him;

Sun Belt POTY, Devante Jones, tells @Stockrisers he completed yet another virtual meeting with Texas Tech’s Mark Adams today. In addition, he will complete another one with Michigan’s Juwan Howard next week.

WRT Alvarado he loves Atlanta and had stuck out 3 years of lousy basketball and finally they have a good year. And quite frankly if all their key players like him and Wright(ACC POY) return they would be a really good team.

So if he transfers for 1 extra season from what I was told it is to be closer to home.  That is why I think SJU would be in good shape.

I only watched Alvarado  live once, and was impressed. Excellent handle and can get to the rim. Really tough competitor. This was against St. John's in Miami 2 at the end of 2018. He was 0 for 5 from 3, but he is a better shooter now. I thought there was some bad blood between him and St. John's, but that was the prior staff. In an article, perhaps in the game program, Alvarado talked about not getting offered by St. John's, and said he didn't need the approval of the program, because he  already knew how good he was. All this was before CMA, so I hope whatever slight he felt is long gone.

i hate to think in a neg way but we need the best talent available that we can land. As in seasons past, you just don't know what will happen during the season. Players ineligible for some reason, injuries ( please no ), or even disciplinary reasons. Depth, especially with our run & gun offense and pressure defense is always good. Seems like this staff has definitely considered depth an important factor in upcoming season, unlike staffs in the past. That being said, these are pretty exciting times. With another decent commit or two, this team has shaped up to be formidable on paper. Cant wait for season already. Go johnnies. Keep it up coaches!
