2.8 steals, good shooting numbers. A primary ball handler. This (Alvarado etc..) would push the needle towards top 3 BE IMO.
I wouldn’t hold your breath on this one. All the big boys are gonna be in on him. Unless there’s some connection to the staff I highly doubt we’d be able to land a player of this caliber.

Of course, but if you want to have a BE title contender your last year with Champ, I think we need a guard like this. Could be a lesser version but we need another backcourt piece for a number of reasons.

Title contender?  I’ll take an at large bid!

I would too. But with leading scorer in BE plus pretty good crew around him, we’d be settling. 2 open spots left, weren’t you making this case yesterday? We need a difference maker in the backcourt to be better than a tournament team IMO.

I want a win an NCAA tournament game and not a play in game. I may not be the oldest on this board but I have kids going off to college this Fall and we haven't won an NCAA tournament game in their lifetime.

I was about to post the same exact thing!

Hypothetical - Jones is ready to sign but you know you have a 90% chance of landing Alvarado, though Alvardo won't commit for another month.  Do you sign Jones or wait?  What if chance for Alvarado was 75%?  50%?

Irrespective of whether Champagnie returns, I’m not convinced we are a tournament team without the addition of  a scorer.  I don’t see another bonafide scorer on the roster, and that includes Posh who I love.

Kid loves Waco, Texas.  How can we compete with that?
Obviously a very tough get, kid can play

What 'free agent' combo guards do we have a decent shot to get? Brian Moore? Anyone else?

I believe we led the Big East in scoring last year.  What makes you believe scoring will be the issue?  Obviously our offense was not built on individual talent, Dunn was not a scorer, Earlington not a scorer, Cole not a scorer, so on and so on.  Yet in our system they each contributed and scored.  I'm willing to bet that incoming guys will put up equal or better offensive production based on simple fact they are have more talent than players that left and system is obviously built to push play and score buckets.

Yep, Soriano has to earn his starting spot, for all we know Nyiwe, Wheeler, and Stanley will be playing over him.

Agree.  Soriano is stepping up a level too.  He’s going to have to get laterally a bit quicker and in better shape to put in the minutes in CMA’s system.  I don’t think he will be putting in full games and I believe that we will likely rotate Stanley and Nywie in for time at center.  Certainly love his skills set though, as I think it will help us a lot in the half court as well as  on defense.
That's not necessarily how transfers work.  Promises may have been made in exchange for a commitment.  I'd expect to see him start (though how many minutes he plays is hopefully TBD/earned).

I'm sure many coaches make promises, but can you point to anything in his two years here that could indicate that CMA is one of those coaches?

Let me start by saying that I think the staff has done a fine job retooling to date.  By all accounts,  we have improved our defensive talent and our rebounding.  I do, however, have concerns that the current roster will struggle shooting the ball and in the half court. I don’t think the last team was particularly good in the half court either despite their scoring prowess.  And let’s not forget that last year’s team did not make the NCAA.

The Big East should be be tougher next year and we’ll have to be better.  Without another scorer, I’ don’t think that’s a foregone conclusion.  Unless we get anoTher impact scorer, I suspect we would be picked to finish sixth or seventh in the league, assuming Champagnie comes back.  That sounds about right.

We’ll see more names

I believe we are in decent shape for next year; however, to be a clear upper echelon BE team think we need another ball handler and shooter which could be the same guy (and of course Champ to return).  Still plenty of time for that to break though.

FYI: Arkansas transfer Desi Sills has committed to Auburn
I guess the SEC lets kids transfer in conference. Seems like it could lead to a lot of bad blood, especially with sneaky guys like Pearl and Wade lurking.

Matter of time before BE gets rid of that rule.  None of the major conferences disallow it anymore.  Just a taste so far:

1)Justin Powell transfers from Auburn to Tennessee
2)Miller Kopp just transferred from Northwestern to Indiana
3)Joey Brunk transfers from Indiana to Ohio St
4)Justin McKoy transfers from Virginia to UNC.

Looking forward to the Vincentians, Jesuits, and Friars, beating each other up MMA style over in conference transfers.

Of course the fun will really start when they all get together and put the fear of God into UConn.
