SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

Hate to jump the gun. But if it's Alvarado, CMA and staff have to close on this. System fits a guy like him perfectly. Plenty of opportunities to grab steals and run an up-tempo offense. My mouth is watering at the thought of having our backcourt comprised of the reigning Big East AND ACC DPOYs. There's no reason for SJU to let this one slip.
You honestly feel that staff was not aware of the rumor out there for weeks and is not prepared for best shot? I am sure they are. Let’s get confirmation Jose is entering portal and go from there.

Starting lineup of Posh, Alvarado, Mathis, Champs and Wheeler/Soriano.

Posh, Alvarado, Julian and any two guys on our roster and I am happy.

No. I know they are prepared. Not sure where in my post I questioned that. I was simply reinforcing a point. But forget Riley, Cuffe, Curbelo, Richmond, etc. Alvarado will be the biggest possible SJU recruit during CMA's current tenure if he enters the portal. Similar to Whitehead and Brisco during the Lavin days.

If we truly want to ascend to the next level, this needs to happen. This is not an exaggeration. It's really that simple.

Have no clue, but I would think Stef Smith starts over MM...but like Andrew says, who cares who 'starts' with that roster?

A 5th year Senior is the most important player of CMA's tenure?

I like Alvarado and want him here but I can't go that far.  If he comes the team better win next year because they will be losing A TON next year with the real seniors and super seniors.

I happen to think multi year core players are more important recruits personally.

That would be a small lineup, so I would imagine that ensures Soriano would get the nod. Posh, Alvarado, Smith, Soriano, and Julian sounds pretty explosive.

Agreed.  I would love him because he's make next year fun IMO.  A kid like that isn't going into the portal unless he basically knows where he's going, because the line of suitors would be endless.  I have no idea if he'd have interest - I can see the appeal to the extent he wants to come home, play in a system perfect for him, probably knows some of our guys. Maybe the CTK coach gushing over CMA and staff helps too.

Multi-year core players still more important IMO.  But ability to get those kids probably much easier now in the past than with the transfer rules.

If Alvarado gets out of the draft and goes in the portal trust me there is one school he is really interested in.
Been clear

Yessir. Fingers crossed - I am salivating. This could potentially be the most exciting St John's team to watch in a long time

Before everybody gets too excited, is Jamie Shaw a reputable source?  Guy has close to 1,000 followers.

Lol, I think I have two.  I actually don’t know if 1,000 followers is a lot or a little.

Frankly with Smith and likely Champ going after next year, I'd rather see us get a solid kid who can shoot and handle with a couple of years of eligibility left. But that's just me.

Yes according to local hoops guy I spoke to. Sense this situation will be clearer soon re entering portal.

We have had sources on this board saying for a long time that Alvarado was in play. Obvious there are “sources” here.

Can you name a higher rated, more regarded recruit than Alvarado that SJU has a legit shot with? You really think it's a stretch to say this the most important get for CMA so far during his tenure? Unless of course you saw foresaw the tremendous success of Posh and Julian as a frosh and sophomore. Of course it's more important to recruit multi year players, no one ever argued that. SJU needs to close on guys like Alvarado before thinking about landing top HS recruits.

I’d rather get Alvarado.  I think it’s all about building momentum.  Have a special season next year, and it will be so much easier to grab quality transfers and recruits in the years to come.  Assuming Champagnie returns, getting someone like Alvarado could really give us an opportunity to have a Sweet 16 type of team.
