SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

I think his name is probably somewhere in there already.  I’m not excited by a 32% 3 pt shooter that hoists 8-9 attempts a game.

Drake, Missouri State, Wyoming, UAB Nicholls State, Prairie View A&M, Colorado State, St. John’s and the new staff at UTEP have reached out to Minnett.

Intriguing prospect based on the numbers.  Didn’t take many threes, but made nearly half.  Good assist to turnover radio and excellent field goal percentage.
Same conference as David Caraher came from.  Interpret that as you will.

Interesting...  St.John's is the only high major on this list that has reached out.

Minnett wouldn't be a bad pick-up if he was content with his role as being a scorer off the bench, which looks like that was his role his freshman and sophomore year.  Also, last year in a full season he did shoot 36.5% from three, so I'm wondering with reduced minutes and him not being a focal point of a scouting report would he be able to get 8-10 PPG off the bench and be a mid 30's 3 point shooter.

I like this option better than Minnett.  And it's not just because of the 3 point %.  With Harrison you have 4 years of eligibility, plus he looks to be a better ball handler and distributor.  Also, 1.5 SPG is not shabby, he appears to get after it defensively as well.   However, like with Minnett would he accept being a scorer off the bench?  I don't see either of these 2 new names pushing Mathis or Smith to the bench.

With some of these potentials, looks like staff is looking to replicate Dunn.  Not a bad thing on balance.

Lack of athleticism killed Caraher more than anything else. Not everyone at the lower level will be as slow.

Would only have to sit behind Smith for one year if he's OK with sitting. Plus he could pick up minutes behind Posh if he runs the point better than Smith. Not a bad situation, but I guess he's not a middle-aged guy mapping out a plan for his favorite team from behind a computer screen.

According to Verbal Commits, only Lamar and LA Tech offered Kasen Harrison. Interesting he transferred to LA Tech...then reopened his commitment.

This.  I think SJU still needs a plug-in play guard/forward with scoring skills.  I think Smith is a good player in a 3 guard rotation type of player.  I think on a upper echelon BE team he comes off the bench to play minutes.

I believe we are in decent shape for next year; however, to be a clear upper echelon BE team think we need another ball handler and shooter which could be the same guy (and of course Champ to return).  Still plenty of time for that to break though.

Big time target. Imagine we had a Dylan Disu and a Dylan Wusu

I'm starting to think every good Texas native is going to enter portal in hopes that Beard reaches out.

Or... the more likely scenario is these kids are entering the portal because schools like Texas are telling them they would be interested if they entered the portal.  Vanderbilt's season ended on March 11th, I don't believe for a second a month and a half later he all of a sudden decided Vanderbilt's not the place for him anymore.

Yeah, that too. /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Hate to jump the gun. But if it's Alvarado, CMA and staff have to close on this. System fits a guy like him perfectly. Plenty of opportunities to grab steals and run an up-tempo offense. My mouth is watering at the thought of having our backcourt comprised of the reigning Big East AND ACC DPOYs. There's no reason for SJU to let this one slip.
