SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

Considering the new transfer culture, I think redshirting will only take place for medical reasoning. Other than that, I think you’re asking for a guaranteed transfer at the end of the season, if a coach decides to red shirt an incoming freshman.

New pitch to redshirt players:

What if I guaranteed you 4 years starting after this year's logjam clears up?  Is that something you might be interested in?

Any coach guaranteeing kids start or even gets playing time is asking for trouble and massive turnover.  I don't care if it's a 5-star projected first round pick, you always tell them the truth which is they are going to have to come in and compete and earn every minute he gets, which is exactly the message CMA is telling kids.  Soriano said that's what made him like the staff they were honest and said he has a lot to improve on and they were going to be tough on him.

You seen a kid like Aiden Ighiehon average 1 PPG over 2 years and he was a 5-star.  You going to guarantee he start 4 years for you and not recruit anybody else?

Agree with everything you said. But I do think if Soriano did any research at all he knows he's a starter. He doesn't need the promise to be made. And I'm glad we landed a kid confident enough that he doesn't need the staff to kiss his ass. D'Lo was the same way. He literally told the staff he did not want smoke blown up his ass during his recruitment -- tell it to him straight.

I think two spots are open competition, though. I like that guys will be pushing each other daily to get those minutes. Going to get more clogged if we bring someone else in too, so hopefully guys are ready to fight rather than transfer or sulk.

Sorry, that was purely an Entourage joke.  I agree with you.

Coach is right you earn your time

I agree with Guard.  If we have learned anything in the past 2 years it's that (1) Coach A is going to start the players who he believes have earned it in practice; and (2) if you give him effort he will get you time on the floor even if it isn't as a starter.

Yep, Soriano has to earn his starting spot, for all we know Nyiwe, Wheeler, and Stanley will be playing over him.

Agree.  Soriano is stepping up a level too.  He’s going to have to get laterally a bit quicker and in better shape to put in the minutes in CMA’s system.  I don’t think he will be putting in full games and I believe that we will likely rotate Stanley and Nywie in for time at center.  Certainly love his skills set though, as I think it will help us a lot in the half court as well as  on defense.

That's not necessarily how transfers work.  Promises may have been made in exchange for a commitment.  I'd expect to see him start (though how many minutes he plays is hopefully TBD/earned).

In this era of college basketball, everyone is on a one-year contract. Renewable on a individual basis.

Listen to interview with Soriano after he committed, he quotes Anderson, "you will work hard and you will have a love hate relationship with me at that point"

Nothing promised.

2.8 steals, good shooting numbers. A primary ball handler. This (Alvarado etc..) would push the needle towards top 3 BE IMO.
I wouldn’t hold your breath on this one. All the big boys are gonna be in on him. Unless there’s some connection to the staff I highly doubt we’d be able to land a player of this caliber.

I was about to post the same exact thing!

Of course, but if you want to have a BE title contender your last year with Champ, I think we need a guard like this. Could be a lesser version but we need another backcourt piece for a number of reasons.
